As already announced, Microsoft Japan will be hosting a 50-minute Xbox Showcase at the Tokyo Game Show later this month on 24th September. The broadcast will be in Japanese only.
While we were admittedly hoping for some new announcements related to the company's next-generation system, Xbox Series X, it seems there won't be any. The official Xbox Twitter account clarified this earlier today:
The focus of this showcase will instead be on "celebrating" Japanese games and creators, the local Minecraft community, and there'll even be some updates about Microsoft Flight Simulator.
If there are no new Xbox Series X announcements at this event, does this mean we'll be hearing more about the next-gen here in the west before then, or will we have to wait until after this event? Share your own thoughts down below.

Oh yes reserve some next-gen gameplay for Video Game Awards. 😍
So.... this ether means they will hold another event before this one, or literally they are STILL refusing to show the console in full actually running games and it’s price and release date until October? A month before release... if they do that they’ll lose sales as people won’t have saved up. Sure the usual fans will but they need this price out there in the media and they and Sony are blowing it currently.
Both of them seem to have amateur marketing teams playing chicken..
Oh but have you heard about Game Pass...... that’s the only message coming out of Microsoft.
I’d have thought some next gen talk would have been an obvious move given how close to launch we are.
Given how invested gamers have become with Japanese games and Xbox trying to tap into that market, i’d have also thought they‘d want to showcase some of their games running on Series X to build in that market, whilst still pandering to their western audience.
Strange move unless they have another show planned that they haven’t revealed yet. They really should have just delayed the console, I stand by that. Delay, drop with Halo and all late 2020/early 2021 games on GP, job done!
In the name of... How ? Why ? What the... so when ? WHEN ?
Oh, and also :
SERIOUSLY ?
@S1ayeR74 Sounds like desperation to be honest. Like with Halo Infinite no longer a launch title and the other big 1st party titles still 2+ years away all they have is Game Pass if they don't have a competitive price.
Huh? But why? These events are great to reveal new stuff.
@Grumblevolcano Oh yes that’s a way better service than PSN+ which was over-expensive, worthless and used to get hacked frequently. 😂
Gamepass, cross generational backcompat and Smart-Delivery are the best pro-consumer and pro-developer initiatives in gaming industry right now.
Game pass represents great value. But Smart delivery is just a buzzword that Xbox have made which practically is the same thing that Sony does regarding upgrading PS4 games to ps5. Difference is that Sony has not made a buzzword for their version of it.
Worst new generation release in history! The lack of information being given especially so close to release is a joke. For both Microsoft and Sony.
@Grumblevolcano @Z3u5000 so when did grumble ever mention the PlayStation? Youre obsessed
So xbox will try and go all out to promote gamepass in Japan, as its alll they have got going for them at the moment.
Pretty obvious Microsoft want it either ego to an digital future, or a Google stadia route with no actual console just game streaming over the Internet, which is fine but surely the quality of the actual games will fall as the developers would overall recieve less money from actaul physical sales.
Can see Sony revamping the ps now and also going down that route in several years and thats when Nintendo are the only actaul console on the market and be a bleak age for gaming. 😩
@Z3u5000 in this moment just now you’ve overdone it and shown yourself to be ‘console war jockey’ you so often criticise.
At no point did @grumblevolcano mention PlayStation. He simply stated the facts of Xbox’s situation. You would seriously have to be an idiot not to see it.
Also you keep hyping on about “Smart Delivery”, PS has it too, they just don’t need to hype it as one of their main selling points, its just a given. So by mentioning that again yourself with GP, you’re only damaging your own clout and making everyone more aware that Xbox doesn’t really have much for Series X.
Wait....maybe you’re the ultimate troll and thats been your goal all along 😂
@Jacko11 this guy and keltic are like this on almost every article taking digs at sony for no reason even when sony hasnt been mentioned in the article.
@Jacko11 @Cyrus29 Yes I reckon “pay-again” Spiderman stand-alone DLC built on same last gen assets, is a part of their own smart delivery alternative.
@playstation_king You are flat out wrong there, Microsoft have already stated as fact that around 20% more game time is played by members in Game Pass is a direct result of people on Game Pass, and sales of games on Game Pass increase by 20% so devs are actually selling more games through it making more money, the total opposite of what you claim.
@S1ayeR74 Just ignore the pushsquare 🦄 gang. They have no real reason to be here apart from defending their favourite platform and it’s narratives/fan-theories from any kind of criticism in Xbox sites. They neither have any actual investment nor intention to be a part Xbox family. Just go around personally attacking everyone who likes to reserve a different set of opinions, thinking from their pea brains.
@Z3u5000 I use that site too though and am interested in the PS5 like the XSX, I am waiting for the price before deciding what to get.. but I am equally as critical and praising of BOTH platforms, I own both, so you don’t need to troll just because you read that other site. But yes some of them and indeed some fans on both sides fall into your comment.
Folks, please keep things constructive. No personal attacks. Let's get back on topic...
@Z3u5000 Ignore the PlayStation gang?
You say that as if I only own a PS4 and not both consoles. You say that as if I don’t own GP Ultimate. You say that as if I don’t intend to buy both consoles.
Some of us “pea brains” as you call it, actually are able to have a reasonable discussion and critique both sides for their shortcomings rather than your constant one sided agenda.
And personal attacks? If you can’t take criticism then whats the point in even having a dialogue. Simply put, you are not seeing the flaws in your “Xbox family” and then throw shots at the opposing brand. Plus, don’t preach about ‘no need for personal attacks’ after your last message.
You cannot have a balanced argument if you are not willing to accept your own brands faults, end of.
@Jacko11 very true. Having discussions about both good & bad of what Xbox & Sony do seems to be too difficult for a few people on here. When you do open a dialogue, you get the same people who reply with childish comments. I will always applaud but equally be critical of both Sony & Xbox decisions. I don’t understand the few, who seem to get offended if you dare speak bad over a plastic box.
@Z3u5000 I actually have gamepass on my mobile...
I've seen many comments from you attacking the ps5 on most articles on here for no reason so I responded just like you were probably hoping for.
If it wasn't for your pea brain comments to begin with then this argument would never of happened
@Cyrus29 exactly. I’ll be the first to criticise PlayStation before I do any other brand whether it Xbox, Nintendo or PC. But when somebody can’t see clear faults in their own favourite brand and continuously prolongs and ignites this ‘console war fan boy s**t show’ its exactly as you said, childish.
Plus the audacity to then try and say others are one sided when you’re called out by someone who presents a reasonable, its just embarrassing.
I love coming to this site as there are some great articles and I enjoy getting involved in discussions about Xbox, but some honestly make it mentally painful to visit.
Well who would have thought next gen news would have been here? I mean I still think an xCloud announcement is going to crop up. I guess it can’t be helped all three companies have been news slim and people are starving for anything..
@Grumblevolcano I wouldn’t call it desperation for the Tokyo Game Show. I mean I could see that point anywhere else, but Halo wouldn’t have made a big splash. I actually think this show is the first show that’s going to be something that they had planned before and not alter because of other events. Gamepass has a much better shot of being relevant to the Japanese than Halo and the XSX.
Kinda makes sense. It's a Japan-centric event and they've never done amazing over there. So revealing something brand new there seems like wasting a good opportunity that could've been used to hype up their console at another event that's more geared towards NA and Europe.
@Nexozi Don't worry. Nintendo fully revealed the Switch six weeks before launch and they were fine (I thought it was a stupid move as well, but it worked out).
Things change, and you don't need long hype cycles anymore. News will come soon. They can't wait too long, but I definitely expect more this month.
@Cyrus29 @Jacko11
Yet another article where you are in the comment section ripping on Xbox & complaining. Why are you even here? Do you even own an Xbox?
As I have stated in other articles, you PlayStation guys sure seem to have a lot of time on your hands. Trolling on an Xbox website? Maybe you don’t have enough games to play on your PS4? Sad.
Well....at any rate, thankfully, this website has an “ignore” button so we can say 👋 to Push Square trolls like you. 👍🏻
So.....anyways......
I am not surprised there is no new news coming at a Japanese show. I doubt many Xbox fans will even watch it or care, to be honest.
Microsoft needs to do another show on their own, however.
@KelticDevil I was waiting for you to turn up to yet another article where you pass off genuine criticism as ‘fanboy’ or ‘ripping and complaining’.
If you had read any of the messages above or in articles past, you would be more aware of the situation, what is being said and possibly construct a better reply.
But here you are, again, with almost nothing to say but p*ss off to “PlayStation guys”. Top man!
By all means, hit that ignore button I’d rather you never got involved in genuine discussions on here anyway, always one sided, never constructive.
Little disappointed. I was hoping to see new revealed Japanese games headed to Xbox.
At this point I'm getting more excited for Switch Pro than XSeX or PS5, and I don't even believe it's a product that will exist beyond a simple refresh.
@Armyof1 I wouldn’t rule that out. They just said no Next Gen news. For instance, Katamari Damacy Reroll got announced for Japanese Xbox One Release. Also I wouldn’t rule out a Yakuza announcement either.
@Jacko11 just as expected really. Don’t understand the mentality. I have a PS4 Pro & a Xbox one s. And it’s the second time the same person has asked me if I have a Xbox. Just goes to show how embarrassing people can be.
@KelticDevil your answer to anyone who says any criticism about xbox is to slate them on a comment and then Prees ignore as you can't win an argument 😂😂
@NEStalgia switch pro and breath of the wild 2 on release! Calling it now
@playstation_king That's too optimistic. Spirit Tracks Remaster. And "nothing to announce" on questions about BotW2.
@NEStalgia I honestly think breath of the wild 2 is a 2021game, they have probably been working on it for 2 years now. Though a spirit tracks remaster would be welcomed or another shot at wind waker
@KelticDevil I guess you can't really take criticism of your own plastic box. I own an Xbox One X and I was very disappointed with Microsoft's extreme lack of exclusives. I loved both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360. I'm more of a Nintendo fan Boy than Sony anyways, but I can't deny the lack of exclusives. I mean Xbox Series X is looking to be the first ever console to launch without an exclusive at all. That's kinda sad.
@HammerKirby
Actually Xbox has plenty of exclusives. You just either choose to ignore them, not play them, or don’t like them. And that’s your problem/opinion. I, and millions of others, love a lot of Xbox exclusives.
But.....by all means, go pay $60 for Wii U Mario Kart on the Switch. 👍🏻
And XSX is launching with exclusives. They are just 3rd party. And they may have Gears Tactics ready for launch. But I’m sure a person like you wouldn’t play a turn based tactics game. 🙄
And Sony is only launching with $60 Spider-Man DLC (which they haven’t even shown gameplay for yet) and 3rd party timed exclusives. Bugsnax & Godfall look amazing! 🙄😂
Maybe they’ll showcase some MSX esclusives?
@HammerKirby I’m going to stop you right because most of the games I’m looking forward holiday are Xbox exclusives- The Medium, Tetris Effect Connected, Yakuza Next Gen Enhancments, and in all likelihood Gears Tactics and Tunic (they had demo going at Gamescom). That said I know I’m an odd duck and I know these aren’t “system sellers” (well maybe The Medium) but the truth is I’m going to have way more to do on a Series X then I did on my Switch back on 2017 since I wasn’t into Zelda ._.
I’m not saying you are wrong or right just that please don’t ignore that games some of us are actually interested in because for me it was never about Halo :/
@KelticDevil "And they may have Gears Tactics ready for launch. But I’m sure a person like you wouldn’t play a turn based tactics game. 🙄"
Erm... fire emblem is one of the best turn based tactics games ever made and is a nintendo exclusive and Mario and rabbids is also a turn based tactics game, so because they are a Nintendo fan doesn't automatically assume they don't play those kind of games, it's not all Mario platforming and Mario kart like clueless obsessed fanboys like you seem to think
@HammerKirby couldn't agree more. I had a xbox 360 and at the.eginning it had a lot of exclusives especially jrpgs like eternal sonata and vesperia which were amazing but this gen xbox had the worst exclusives I've ever seen and seemed to rely on the same franchises to get any sales (gears, halo, forza) although state of decay 2 was good. Yet Sony and Nintendo pump out exclusives like its nothing....
This thread was about Xbox at TGS and hardly any comments about it 🤣
1. Xbox has a lot of games. All three do. Did Xbox lack hard hittting first party exclusives last gen perhaps? Thats subjective. They had more than Halo/Forza/Gears thats fact.
2. Spiderman Miles Morales is NOT DLC. Its a standalone game. Will it be shorter in length? Sure but no one has confirmed its $60 either. DLC stands for downloadable content and its getting a physical release so thats that one.
3. They are plastic boxes. What matters is what is played on them. Stop getting so amped up 🤣
Now all that is over. Anyone want to speculate what will be shown? I know it wont be new stuff but I am betting on an xcloud blowout and a look at next gen Yakuza.
@mousieone Yakuza patch isnt exclusive. Its a timed one that. The Medium is likely timed and no console manufacturer can call Tetris exclusive and keep a straight face.
Last paragraph I fully agree with you on though. Lots more to Xbox than Halo and I expect a lot of the niche titles at TGS being shown as on Xcloud day one as well. Japanese gamers will love the idea of Dragon Quest XI on mobile and tablet.
Bad examples.
@Jaxx420 I’m really not sure what you mean not fully. Maybe it’s confused part of me; it happens. Sorry, about that I don’t mean to fuss. I really don’t. I enjoy conversing with people.
It’s just seems like everyone is picking and choosing to use the word exclusive when it suits their needs. The reality is nothing these days is fully “exclusive” unless it’s on Nintendo and even the. They put stuff on mobile ... Even Sony’s said their moving stuff to PC eventually. Wouldn’t that make it all “timed” as well? For that matter MS puts it all on PC to start with, so nothing is really “exclusive”. In my eyes, the only thing I’m super concerned about is this “holiday”, and people seem ready to dismiss them when again it suits their needs. :/
Sorry :/ I hope I didn’t seem >.< stupid or mean.
@mousieone Not stupid or mean at all. And to be honest you hit the nail on the head a bit.
All three do have some true exclusives but its narrow in number. I wasnt clear myself by timed I meant console timed. But again that gets confusing too lol.
Bottom line no matter which console anyone picks be plenty of content to enjoy.
Also dont apologise for having an opinion whole point of a forum!
Friendly debate is good its the arguments recently breaking out between a select few that have made my teeth itch lol
@playstation_king Yeah I literally have Lyn from Fire Emblem as my profile pic so he doesn't know what he's talking about 😂
@mousieone were you not into Mario or Splatoon either? 🤨 Yeah the only exclusive there that isn't timed is probably Gears Tactics but still I mean if you enjoy all that stuff, power to you I guess. I still find it odd you enjoy Microsoft's 2020 better than Nintendo's 2017 but at least you're respectful about it.
@HammerKirby hmm Super Mario Odyssey was in October a full 7 months after launch and Splatoon 2 was July, 4 months after ^.~ If I recall, launch day it was 1-2 Switch and Snipperclips as the true “exclusives”. (It’s a bit foggy.) There were quite a few multi-plats on the system like Breath of Wild. But it’s a Nintendo exclusive, so I’ll count it. Anyway, MK8 DLX(Late April) and Puyo Puyo Tetris(also April) were the games I played the most early in the Switches lifecycle, but I could have just easily played them elsewhere you know?
I think people remember the Switch launch a lot more rosier than it actually was. I actually got into a fight with the GameStop clerk because of my preorder. And back then Nintendo was still trying to recover from the WiiU, so many publisher were hesitant to put titles on there. And so many “gamers” were ready to dismiss the device. Which was fine, I had faith that titles would come. I mean it’s Nintendo, they don’t actually need third party major publishers, they could survive on their own content and big indies like Hollow Knight.
Now, I honestly can’t say that with MS, and I mean we’ve seen their road map but who knows, I get that. I get the fear that they’ll abandon the current course and just do the easy thing. That said at the moment the launch is not as thread bare as those first few months on the Switch were. Xbox has a very different ecosystem than the Switch, so I am looking forward to quite a number of new games as well as some old ones with a good coat of paint.
Boy did I go on, wow I’ll stop rambling.
@Jaxx420 I appreciate that. I’m finding it difficult as of late on the site (actually everywhere) to have opinion about something and not somehow get perceived wrong. Or somehow getting people mad at me, and that leads to some people really getting rude. It’s made me... gun shy. Good healthily discussion leads to positive things, In my opinion.
And yes I think TGS will have a big xCloud blow out. They probably teamed up with carrier there too like they did in Korea. But I really think this is the first MS presentation that is going as planned at the first of the year. I’m excited for it, but because I’m hoping MS does a good job not because I have any expectations.
