Truly nothing groundbreaking on the PS5 announcement. Final fantasy 16, but also coming to pc. Bunch of games we already had seen. Almost all CGI stuff. One button press and the character does all kind of things for half a minute. No dates for any of the games.

I will be getting the ps5 normal. Not really surprised with the pricing. Sony are pushing mostly as a next gen console. Xbox are pushing next gen kinda like there doing is a currant gen moving forward. To different philosophy’s, but great options moving forwards for gamers overall. Would also like to add the miles morales game looked absolutely amazing.

Def getting the series X, but still on the fence about switching the PS4 Pro for the PS5. I was way more hyped for the PS4 release than I am for the PS5. Only about 4 or 5 games shown so far interest me and most of them are not launch titles. So might hold out for a GOW limited edition version next year.

That was a MASSIVELY underwhelming event.
Not a single thing looked interesting.
Final Fantasy, Kid Arachnid and Devil May Cry all have very similar air and ground combat.
Ps5 Price is laughable considering how much weaker it is than the XSeX.
Playstation Plus Collection is better than the Switch Online, but much worse than the XSeX online.

I love being a PC owner, now I can play both the Xbox and PS5 exclusives! I’ll probably pick up a PS5 for Demon’s Souls though.

One key takeaway from the presentation: the fact that Sony announced PlayStation Plus Collection is all thanks to the pressure from Xbox and Game Pass. If Game Pass didn't exist, Sony would never in a million years announce something like this. That's why I'm glad that Microsoft is becoming more aggressive, it just means stronger competition and Sony will have to respond in some way. Although having access to around 20 PS4 games is not exactly the best response to a service that offers 200+ games with next-gen first-party titles being added to it on day one, but hey at least it's a start. Hopefully the more pressure Microsoft puts on Sony the more we'll get out of PS5. It's simply a win-win for us consumers.

@playstation_king very true. How anyone can watch that presentation and find it weak/boring. Hello, did they even watch the Xbox series x game presentation? Sony actually showed games running on a ps5 console, Xbox have not shown series x gameplay? Why is that?

First time for as long as I can remember where people can pick between two consoles based off preference, not price or quality. Should be good for consumers this next generation.

Wow. I was completely sold on series X but that was far more impressive than what MS has shown So far. Massively. Still think I’ll get series X though because of the All access Deal. I’ll still pick up a PS5 but down the line when there is a price drop and the games for 2021 are all on sale.
Does wind me up a bit when people try and criticise what Sony have shown as they are not gamers but brand fanatics. I think what Sony and MS have shown is that both are must have purchases and gamers look like the winners here!

@Cyrus29 Doesn’t really matter if the ones that look worth playing is already officially coming to XSX anyway for which they are legally bounded. Maybe it doesn’t match narrative propagated by pushsquare 🦄s but it’s just the FACTS!
You can go play your pay-again Spiderman stand-alone DLC built on same last gen assets/engine and then wait for the R&C which is basically a tech demo (which can also run on XSX according to a Sony game dev). But everything will be crystal clear for everyone to judge when Digitalfoundry finally runs some real dense open world gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 later this year. Epic game devs already confirmed UE5 running at 1440p30fps which can be also run on a 2080Ti at 40fps cuz it only requires mbps level bandwidth.

There’s a reason why only Xbox has been transparent all along, they have disclosed a full naked hardware breakdown with Digitalfoundry way back in February so that we don’t need to rely on “industry sources”. There’s a reason why Microsoft waited longer before locking down on specs, which’s why devs got their kits way later. Everything will be ultimately revealed crystal clear later this year when Digitalfoundry shows the Cyberpunk gameplay comparison finally.

@StonyKL get a ps5 at the end of 2021, you will have God of war 2, MM, deathloop, final fantasy 16, Demon souls, resident evil 8, Harry Potter, hopefully new horizon game and new ratchet and clank to choose from for your first games

Sony has been very sneaky waiting for Microsoft to reveal the console, the specifications and even taking advantage of the price leak that affected Microsoft. Of course, Sony didn't want PS5 prices to be this low but they were waiting in the shadows in order to match Series X, even undercut it with the digital PS5.

And when they do the comparisons it’s not a night & day difference with the one x & Pro. Your still essentially playing the same game. The relative difference is smaller than it was between Xbox One and PS4. You probably won't be able to tell the difference between two consoles if they were running side by side.

Seems to me the only reason to get a PS5 is for a few decent exclusives but most of them are one and done type games that are few and far between releases and have zero replay value. I’ve already decided to pre-order the Series X next week but please 🦄 fans, tell me if you can, what does the PS5 offer better than the Series X? Because apart from a few decent exclusives I’m really struggling to come up with anything else.

Still planning on buying a Series X at launch and nothing I saw today convinced me to purchase a PS5 at launch too. I can't justify £900 in one month on both consoles and can wait to pick up a PS5 - most likely in time for Horizon 2.

There is no way I am buying an ALL digital console so couldn't care less about the two cheaper options - but my son would be happy with the Series S

The XBoX game pass is an amazing deal.
I may hate streaming and digital, but the fact that you get to play all 1st party games day one release is great. You get the EA access as well.
You get EVERY Xbox, Xbox 360, XB1 1st party game the day XSeX launches. It blows the PS+Collection (only certain PS4 games) and PS+ out of the water.

@playstation_king Here's the thing, both Microsoft and Sony have been lying. If you go watch the Xbox Showcase from awhile back again, you'll notice that most games shown aren't going to be on Xbox One at all. Only a handful of titles like Halo Infinite will be. On the other hand, Sony has stated that they will focus on next generation experiences and not cross-gen ones and yet they're doing the exact opposite. I just don't understand why both companies are having such a hard time following through with their messaging.

Regardless, Sony has a solid offering for launch/2021 with exclusives.

Xbox has a solid GP launch lineup with Series S priced at £250 which is insane value.

Maybe no need for PS5 at launch. No real need for Xbox Series X at launch either.

For me its all in what appeals to the individual gamer. I’ll buy PS5 in 2021 alongside a Series S. Thats where the value sits personally, now that all the cards are on the table.

Not a bad price for the all digital edition. I definitely did not expect them to go much lower. Nothing so far has impressed me with Sony and the PS5, but that can change years from now when their heavy hitters start coming out. I look forward to 2022 or so, when the next generation really starts.

The 'power' gap may not be as big as a percentage when you look at 1.31TF vs 1.84TF as we saw at the start of this generation but the power gap - assuming the PS5 is actually running at that PEAK figure they presented, is still almost a WHOLE PS4 difference. The 'difference' numerically between the launch XB1 and PS4 was about 2x XB360's - the difference between a PS5 and an XB1 is around 8 XB360s. Of course 1TF of RDNA 2.0 does a LOT more than 1TF in the PS4 so the 'gap' is going to be bigger than an extra PS4. And that's just basing it on there relative TF measurements and assuming that the PS4 is actually running at the full 2.23GHz - something that it can 'boost' too if needed - but in doing so, would have to reduce the CPU performance.

In terms of Shader count, there is a massive difference 2304 in a PS5 vs 3328 in a Series X that's 44% more shaders - albeit running a 'bit' slower but that's a BIG difference. CPU runs faster too but again we don't know what the PS5 will average, just that it can 'boost' up to 3.5Ghz. For all we know, the PS5 could be running at 3.3GHz CPU and 2.0GHz (9.2TF) for its GPU and if needed, can drop to 3.1GHZ to Boost the GPU to 2.23GHz for a 'short' time.

Obviously the PS5 has a faster SSD for faster Data throughput but that shouldn't make any difference to the performance metrics. Audio too, if Sony and MS's literature is correct, would appear that MS has a more powerful Audio processor. Sony said theirs was equivalent to all 8cores in their PS4 (Jaguar at 1.6Ghz) and MS say theirs is MORE powerful than their XB1X CPU (Jaguar at 2.3Ghz) so that would indicate that MS have the advantage their too - with DTS-X and Dolby Atmos support - Sony seem not to support Dolby Atmos in favour of their own Audio. Xbox will support Dolby Vision too, Sony, at least not at the moment, won't.

Of course optimisation and devs taking advantage of both systems will determine who has any advantages — and whether or not you can see (or care about) in a side by side. What we do know though is that based on the figures alone, there is quite a BIG difference. I think you can't base your figures on what the PS5 could hit in the right situation - but what the PS5 runs at on average. If the CPU has to be boosted to 3.5Ghz for example, the difference between the GPU's could be much larger than the differences we saw between GPU's on the Launch PS4 and XB1...

As I said on the other website, I have a ton of playstation gaming experience. And their games are turning stale very fast currently. I’m only playing my Playstation for the JRPG’s, eg Persona. The action 3d person shoulder games are all becoming similar imo.

I am not 100% sure if the "PS4 power gap" will be as significant as you are stating.

One more thing to keep in mind is while the Xbox has more CUs, keep in mind that Cerny said one more reason they went with a lower CU count is because it appears harder to fully utilize a high number of CUs.
If you simply don't have enough work that can be done parallel, the higher CU count doesn't mean much to you and you would rather have a higher frequency to get the same work done faster.
I have no doubt that AAA studios will find ways to use more of the power of the XSX. But I also think that developing for a lower CU count can be easier when its about trying to make most of the power.

Although I am not a game developer, on everyday basis I am dealing with parallel processes and have to program for that. I would say lets wait and see how well people can make use of the full power of the XSX. But people shouldn't be surprised when we might see some games running better on PS5 vs. XSX and vice versa. It all totally depends on the type of game, the engine and the developer skills.

This all then comes down to games that manage to use 100% of the power may see the XSX running with 10-20% more FPS.
Which could mean a reduction of resolution for PS5 to hit 60fps. Or lowering the settings on PS5 slightly (especially stuff like ray tracing). But I expect most games to look identical.

Neither, although I do want to say I'm very impressed with the value proposition that the Series S represents, and it's starting to look like XSeX is going to be the better buy for $499.99, between being decently more powerful, better with bc, having fewer cross-gen releases, and, of course, Game Pass being an amazing deal.

I'll be playing Game Pass on PC, though, if that counts.

@HammerKirby which is even better. We've gone from the Apple philosophy of "buy it or don't" to a selection more aligned to buying a TV. The point is that we have legitimate options. The ps4 was overpriced and inferior so people bought a 360. The xbox one was overpriced and inferior so people bought a ps4. You now have 4 great consoles to pick from. More choices is always better.

@tatsumi And yet Shaders have mattered on all AMD GPU's in the past and overclocking fewer cores compared to a much higher Core count but slower GPU hasn't closed the gap significantly. I know what Mark Cerney said and I am not going to deny that certain functions can benefit from a higher clock speed. For example, it may enable a ray to have an extra bounce for example because the shader can do 'more' bounce calculations per second - but you also sacrifice a LOT more rays because you have far fewer shaders to work with.

The PS4 had more Shaders compared to the XB1 and it mattered then but somehow, it doesn't matter now? Contrary to ALL previous examples - AMD's new GPU is rumoured to have 80 Cores - that's 5120 Shaders. Are you going to tell me that it won't be better than a 'smaller' GPU that is overclocked?

When you look at ANY PC GPU series, the highest end ones are ones where the yield was high and no cores are disabled, the lower spec ones have a few disabled cores which reduces the shader count and don't deliver the same performance as a result. Cores are important - not just for the shaders, but the Texture Mapping Units (TMU's) too. Shaders are just part of a 'core'

Its not as if the Series X GPU is running slowly either and if you go to fast, you have issues too. You also have to take into consideration, the PS5 isn't running at 2.23Ghz, its running lower than that - maybe 2.0ghz for example and only boosting up as and when needed for very short periods - like when a big explosion goes off during a big battle with lots going on and those 'effects' cause a GPU bottleneck for a second, it can drop the CPU speed down and boost the GPU up to 2.23Ghz to get through it.

What you have to remember is that in EVERY case, the higher spec GPU's in EVERY range, whether that's AMDs RX 5000 series, nvidias RTX3000 or RTX2000 or GTX1000 etc, what ever range, the 'higher' spec cards have more shaders, more 'cores' etc and give better performance figures. The RTX 2060 is perhaps a 1080-1440/60 with RT card, the 2080Ti is a 4k/60 with RT.

With AMD, it seems that the Cores will be used for RT. If you lose 10cores to processing RT, that still leaves 42 Cores for everything else on Xbox - more than the AMD RX 5700 XT has and running faster too, on PS5, that's 26 Cores only. In other words, the Series X could perform better than a RX5700XT and still have RT too, the PS5 could not.

Of course, Chequerboard rendering/Temporal Upscaling can make much lower resolutions look like they are much higher res - as we have seen in God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Virtually ALL games that can be compared will be running on PC's too. They are not 'built' around a GPU with 36cores for example and don't utilise more cores on larger GPU's. I can't say that devs can't allocate some tasks to specific cores (like dedicating RT to 10 cores or having to dedicate just 5 cores on PS5 because it has far fewer to play with) but Shader count, TMU's etc have ALWAYS mattered in the past and now that Sony have built a Console with far fewer, it doesn't matter? If MS had come out and said Smaller GPU's are better at the start of the XB1 and that 900p is 'close' enough that it will look similar, close enough that people can't tell, Sony fanboys would be laughing - now the boot is on the other foot though, it doesn't matter

The show was great in its setup, lots of game play and little talking. But the amount of misinformation regarding titles being exclusive vs time exclusive, all the games being on PS4 and PC... aren't they moving on to the new gen to not hold games back? I hope all that same level of hatred for Xbox for having the S and supporting old gen applied to Sony. Anyways it's great everything is out there and next gen is almost here. Hope everyone is happy with whatever they purchase ☺️

I'm definitely picking up an Xbox Series X eventually, but probably nothing until either Halo infinite comes out or Final Fantasy.

Tbh, I was bummed out that Sony didn't drop their digital only console to 300 dollars because I would love to play Demon's Souls. But that's ok. Plenty of other games to look forward to and I'm definitely sticking with Xbox. ( ^_^)

@AJDarkstar I have my preferences, but at the end of the day, games are games. I just wish Rare Replay was on Windows 10/Steam in some capacity, as it's the one thing I really can't get on my PC.

Lucked out and got a pre-order in for PS5 at the local game store. But I'm going to do what I do every gen and own multiple consoles. Will add a Series X once Forza Horizon 5 or Gears 6 hits, whichever is first.

I hear ya. I gave up on them with the PS3 & Vita. They had the nuts to call the Vita a “legacy console” 3 yrs after they launched it!! And they were the reason it failed because of their idiotic memory card prices! I was shocked. Who quits all 1st party development on a handheld console like 3 years after launch? Sony.

Oh and my PS3 died because it was a defective piece of crap & they wouldn’t even replace it.

Since that arrogance, I vowed to never get a Sony console ever again.

And that doesn’t even count the ridiculously lame (and Wii rip off) PlayStation Move. Oh and then they got Ponies to buy up all the stupid Move controllers to use the PSVR unit that that they barely support.

But to be completely honest im more of a vr gamer and so far there is no way to use vr on the xbox series consoles so im either going for ps5 and use my friends psvr or oculus quest 2.

If I was to pick one up I’d wait until a revision purely because when I picked up an Xbox one around it’s launch I had it replaced 5 times due to them all being faulty, with the last one I just said I’ll get a PS4 instead and that ended up being faulty.
I only just recently picked up a new Xbox One X for a low £150 so I’m not in a rush to upgrade anyway, on the plus side I should be able to get my games cheaper

as someone who have ps1 full original rpg collection, a solid ps2 collection and many fun hours on ps3, and still on my psVita, i was left with a playstation burnout. I decided to switch to xbox one instead of a ps4. the green camp felt different and more a rest in the shadows then the playstation sun if that makes sense.

now i stick with xbox series x and the xbox camp the green camp, and stay there see it through the end. no fiber in my body that has doubts about playstation. playstation were great, nintendo were great, but i cannot go back to them. xbox with gamepass has a flow that i can subscribe to and no worries about buying games either. im just dead tired of the other camps, whatever hat-tricks and circusact they will perform.

Spider-Man is standalone DLC that they are releasing at $50. If it was a full new game, it would be $70.

I was referring to Demon’s Souls as the remake of a PS3 game.

And PS5 is not launching with any exclusives either since the games are on PS4 & PC.

@KelticDevil you walked yourself right into that, the ps5 will have destruction all stars and astro playground both ps5 exclusives with the library of exclusives growing quick each and every day after launch the xbox series s has no console exclusives day one the selection of xbox games which are getting a xbox series s version wont be done until Christmas and even then its just beefed up ports (although ngl will of the wisp series s looks fantastic) and all of the big consoles exclusives title don't have dates or wont happen until next year, so that just makes me wonder what do you do day one if you have this thing there is nothing that makes the console special price is cheap yes but that means nothing if there is nothing that makes it worth the price a player is only as good as there controller but a console is only as good as its game
