Re: Phil Spencer Criticises How Xbox Handled The Halo Infinite Delay

xMightyMatt14x

@Zag_Man I agree. I think they have learned something. I think of Everwild. Sure it wasn’t about to release or anything, but in realizing they need more time to reassess what they’re doing, they are taking their time to try to get it right. Imagine if we didn’t have this regular cadence coming. Everwild would be releasing next year or so and would probably be not good.

Re: Talking Point: Compared To Other Halos, Where Do You Think Infinite Will Rank?

xMightyMatt14x

@GuyinPA75 I’m right there with ya! I feel like the story from this could compare to halo 1 (with the caveat being it’s not completely original and new due to being a sequel, unlike halo 1 which was remarkably new at the time and showed us a mysterious brand new universe).

The only somewhat pessimistic thing I am feeling for this is that it’s going to all take place in one relative area. What I loved about Halo 2 was how it bounced around to a few different spots in the galaxy, followed two awesome protagonists, and showed both sides of the story (kinda like how good movies will flash back and forth between what the good guys are doing and the bad guys are doing).

This campaign will probably be just chiefs experience and will stay in one general (but huge!) area. It’ll still be great! But will be different than a Halo 2 story wise.more like Halo 1

Re: New Halo Infinite Campaign Footage Is Here, And It Looks Awesome

Looks so fun!! Really wish co-op was at release but I’ll just have to play it again in a few months!

Now I’m wondering how they are going to build on this. They said it will just be this game for a while and they will add to it. Will there be massive additional areas added in dlc like in destiny for sequel stories? I’m curious.

Re: Mini-Review: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl - Not So Smashing

xMightyMatt14x

This is probably the first review I’ve read here I disagree with. I’ve thoroughly been enjoying this one. All I want out of a game like this is for the game mechanics to work well and fun choices to be made with characters and levels and that’s what I have experienced. It’s true everyone has their opinion, but I’ve been loving this one. I’m not too bugged by not hearing catch phrases. About the only thing is the character list seems small compared to smash. But it’s still been a great experience for me.

Re: Microsoft CEO: Xbox Is Now A Much More Central Part Of The Company

xMightyMatt14x

I don’t think MS is still on a “spree” of purchases (I think they’ve slowed down) but I do think they are still up for building their portfolio even more since they are willing to give 5-6 years to their new studios to build bigger games than those studios have ever built before (or do multiple projects). So my question is… who could be next? And do you think it will be announced before fall 2022?

@Dezzy70 I’m actually not talking about a streaming only future, but that the option provides flexibility which will be determinant in choice of brand for many. Like I said, current sales reflect regional trends. The US is MS heartland and the series consoles have gained tremendous ground here. Maybe they haven’t done so in the international market, though it seems they’ve gained at least a little back in Japan, but my overall point is about profit margin and growth as a company, not console sales.

Imagine if ps5 outsold XSX and S 3 to 2 (a reasonable guess considering at least SOME momentum has been gained back by MS) but when Starfield and elder scrolls release, let’s say 5 million people who really only play PlayStation get a gamepass sub for a couple months to play that game, either on PC or eventually a streaming app on TV. That’s $75 million going into MS pocket from non Xbox owners, on top of the people who already own an Xbox and will pay for the sub or the full game by choice. The potential lies far beyond console sales for MS to make profit and see growth. However, when HFW releases, you must be a PS console owner to play. There’s no outside option that may pull people in who haven’t taken the plunge to get a console. The idea is, theoretically, MS could sell far fewer consoles, and yet still see more people play one of their exclusive games than PS due to this setup. We’re only maybe a year from seeing the TV app available. It’s not unrealistic to think a few million people will download the app and pay an initial sub fee to try out a single player epic (where hyper responsive controls are not 100% necessary). The internet grid needs to improve, but most metropolises on earth (at least in the west) already offer decent enough speeds for a single player experience to work well enough like this. I live in a rural area that until recently only offered 100 mbps and streaming single player stuff was manageable the potential for drawing in that “well… I’ll try it” audience is very high for MS, whereas the barrier of entry for any non PS owner is much higher for a PS game. It’s not like 100 million people play Horizon or God of War. Even with their high sales, only 20 or 30 million try. But when a simple TV app is the only barrier of entry to try a game experience, it’s not unrealistic to think upwards of 50 million people might try a game. There are only a handful of consoles out there, but there are billions of smart TVs.

@SplooshDmg this is where MS future growth or stagnation truly lies… in the services they are offering. The exclusive games are coming soon and the stream of content is about to spring. People will debate quality, but with Bethesda in the reigns, it’s logical we’re going to get anywhere from a few to many awesome titles. But overall, market share is still reflective of regional taste. @Dezzy70 is probably correct about Europe and the UK still preferring PlayStation, but here in the US you can’t find a series console in the wild at all. What we will see, however, is if people start to casually latch on to streaming and get into the subscription model. It’s truly a remarkable thing they have done what they’ve done already with solid fidelity. Will people play their Destiny and COD and Battlefield on Xbox because of their flexibility, or will they stick to PS sitting at home with much less flexibility, but simple comfort in that environment? Will millions of people who are borderline casual get a simple subscription to play a few heavy hitters and have the flexibility and mobility offered by Xbox, or has the gamer market mostly stagnated and only really console owners will invest in gaming to this degree anyway? These are the questions that, to me, will determine success this generation.

*commenting just to get this to 50 comments lol

But idk how to feel here. I saw someone say that since both of these companies have a large number of openings that aren’t being filled, then they could be just completing projects a different way since workers are harder to come by.

Whatever the reason, I’m hoping for a fine tuned experience. Story is always up in the air as sometime you can have high quality production with an unlikable story. But again, hopefully this means a fully polished game sooner than later.

Re: It's Officially Been A Year Since Xbox And Bethesda Joined Forces

xMightyMatt14x

I had never played more than a couple hours of a Bethesda game before they went to Gamepass. Literally this made me try the games out and they finally clicked with me. Played through Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas over the summer. At least the main campaigns and some side stuff. I also did a marathon weekend and played through Wolfenstein. Great games!

Re: 'Crazy' Xbox Acquisition Rumour Causes Speculation To Run Rampant

xMightyMatt14x

@WallyWest @Stocksy @StonyKL to kinda echo others points. I can see where this site might seem “defensive” but it literally gets spammed by fanboys of other consoles all the time. I generally only stay here but have read comment sections on the other two sites. They don’t have to deal as much with the Xbox versions of ultimateotaku coming in every day in almost every article to do everything from make a subtle jab or complaint to full on taunting or berating. Literally all that guy does here is get into every… Single… Article and say something to get attention.

So I get it. But I’ll bet if there were less of those guys coming in, and you looked past the two or three that are immature here, you’d see most people here are actually pretty reasonable.

Re: 'Crazy' Xbox Acquisition Rumour Causes Speculation To Run Rampant

I probably am seeing this wrong, but as much as I like the idea of a Japanese company being added (and I myself have guessed Sega in the past) I feel like Japanese companies won’t sell to western companies. Like even with all the money in the world it’s a pride/cultural thing. Am I wrong I’m thinking this? Is there an example of a fairly large Japanese company selling to a western company in any other industry? I know of individual studios but not large companies.

Re: Saints Row Team: We Aren't Backing Down, But We Understand The 'Knee Jerk' Reaction

xMightyMatt14x

@Spiders I actually get what your saying about this seeming “trendy” and not “woke”. Good point! I still get annoyed by modern trendiness. It’s still off-putting. I was a 90s kid and 00s teenager, so I’m now the old man in the corner yelling about youth today (lol), so the game does seem weird and try-hard to me. Not really appealing at all. However I’ve never played any Saints Row so idk how this compares. But I can see why people are annoyed with the choice of tone.

But I definitely agree with your cultural statements for different eras!
