Harmonix, the development team best known for creating the Rock Band series of games, has announced today that it has been acquired by Epic Games, which has tasked the studio to "create musical journeys and gameplay for Fortnite".
In a post on the Harmonix website, the company stated that it was "a monumental day for the team":
"Over the last 26 years we have pushed ourselves to redefine how people experience and interact with music. Now, we’ll be working with Epic to once again challenge expectations as we bring our unique brand of musical gaming experiences to the Metaverse, and we couldn’t be more excited."
Despite the acquisition, Harmonix still has plans to continue creating content for Rock Band 4 including new DLC and Rivals Seasons, while events for FUSER will also continue. Essentially, everything is staying the same for now.
The team says it's "not ready to share any specifics" on the upcoming Fortnite work, but has told fans to "stay tuned".

I thought this quote "To create musical journeys and gameplay for Fortnite" was a joke. Very sad to hear it is not...
I still play rock band 4 regularly. Guess they will be done with new songs now. Not happy about this.

Getting bought out is one thing, but getting bought out so you can be put to work on Fortnite? A fate worse than death.
