Microsoft is on a roll of acquisitions as the company has recently purchased the esports platform Smash.gg.
In a statement on Twitter, Smash.gg announced that it has been scooped up by Microsoft, adding that the "team will now benefit from additional resources and support as part of the Microsoft Content Services team."
It finished by stating that it's "excited about this acquisition's potential to further empower the esports community and expand http://Smash.gg's reach and scale."
MSN Sports also confirmed the news in an another tweet, declaring that the site will still have the "same great tournament organization features. Same amazing team. Even more support and opportunities."
It's unclear what opportunities the partnership will open up, but it's exciting to think of the possibilities that could be made from the acquisition. The website also displayed a small statement which confirmed that the brand "will continue as a self-service esports platform available to tournament organizers from all game communities."
What do you think will come of the acquisition? Let us know in the comments below.

Er, what exactly does Smash GG do?
Articles like this and the comments on them make me realize how many different types of gamers there are. Most people in comment sections on video game websites don’t have any interest in eSports at all, but it is obviously a massive subsection of the culture. It just goes to show that it is farcical to think that the majority opinions contained in these comment sections are actually representative of the gaming population as a whole.
