Re: Xbox Series X Fix Could Save A 'Large Power Plant's Worth Of Electricity', Says Climate Scientist

orionreplay

This guy goes after everything. Doesn't take much Googling to see Noah launched previous attacks against Cable Modems and Routers, TVs, printers, cell phone chargers, Roomba charger, etc. Anything you typically leave plugged in. He hates energy vampires.

What I find funny is his January complaints were directed at the PS5 too, yet combing around I only ever see the media direct the outrage at the XBox.

If you use Gamepass/Gamepass Ultimate a lot you need the instant on to install the games from afar. If the XBox is off-off, then you can't communicate with the it.

Edit: Meanwhile owning an XBox with instant on makes me a bad guy, but the fella who lives up the road from me blazes 22 individual outdoor lights every night, 365 days a year. It's like daylight up there.

Re: EA Will Reportedly Decide The Fate Of Anthem This Week

orionreplay

I had loads of fun in it. The act of flying in the javelin is second to none. I even went back over this last holiday season to see what was happening and still easily found others to do runs with.

Unfortunately, it just doesn't hold one's attention very well and you easily can put it down and go play something else.

Re: GoldenEye 007's Xbox Remaster Was Blocked By Nintendo, Says Dev

orionreplay

I'm getting a growing feeling someone is simply testing the waters with these drops of bread crumbs to see if the fish will bite. And we seem to be biting. Whatever animosity may have been around back then with Nintendo and MS, should be put aside these days.

Yet at the same time I'm sorely afraid the game will feel very archaic in 2021 and it will spoil any 1997/98 memories I have of the title.

Re: Poll: How Are You Finding Quick Resume On Xbox Series X|S So Far?

orionreplay

Let me start by saying, I love Quick Resume. Days after Skyrim re-released and I dabbled in it, we lost power on the house for an entire day. Two weeks later I decided I'd go back to Skyrim again after listening to a co-worker playing it. I QR'ed right back to exactly where I left it. Holy cow. Weeks and a power loss to the house. QR worked.

Now with that said, why do I sometimes leave Control and it Quick Resumes, but then doing the same exact process, sometimes Control has to totally load again? Why no QR?

It can be very sporadic. Control, Valhalla, even Forza Horizon 4. All sporadic and I can't tell why it works one time and another time it doesn't. I also can not tell which games are successfully held in QR. That would be a nice feature.

Re: Roundup: Here's What The Critics Are Saying About The Medium

orionreplay

Coming from a two system owner since XBox first released, in recent years I've been struck at how Game Informer has become increasingly pro-Sony. I thought this might change with the Gamestop/MS deal, but as far as I can tell nothing has changed in the magazine.

GamingBible? Who? This seems like a harshly given score to generate clicks, which it did. I had never heard of them and clicked.

Re: Devolver Digital Denies Fall Guys Is Coming To Xbox Game Pass

orionreplay

I have played it on my PS4 and don't understand the fascination. Everybody runs forward into a world like a WipeOut television episode. When you are making good progress there are always the few who care little for progress and make it their sole intention to disrupt you. I'm like, Dude stop... dude why.... Arghh!

Re: Let's Be Honest, The Xbox Microsoft Rewards App Needs Some Work

orionreplay

I have passed 53 weeks of constant use and have periodic issues, but nothing that has stopped my progress. Typical issues are crash to Home when backing out of a click-reward.

I find the Gamepass app on my Samsung phone to be a real turd. Crashes at least once on every first opening. Then after that, I reopen the app and life seems better.

Re: MLB The Show Could Finally Be Announced For Xbox Next Month

orionreplay

I hope I am wrong, but I think The Show 2021 will not be for XBox. Maybe next year (The Show 2022). They are already wicked behind schedule, as we normally see pre-orders up around october/november timeframe and would already know the cover player.

With this being truly a next-gen 1st year for The Show, we should be inundated with trailers and graphics overload. But we have had heard nothing at all. And only now we hear about news/update in February? Ouch.

I think they must still release for PS, but I think anything Xbox will have to wait. I think Pandemic really put a wrench in the works. But then again the announcement in 2019 was "as early as 2021". So it wasn't set in stone then.

Re: Thought The Kinect Was Dead? It's Getting Another Game In 2021

orionreplay

I had the Kinect for 360 and later the One. It proved to be temperamental and difficult to really have fun with. While I kept hoping for improvements, at the same time as a family we did like Sports and Sports Rivals, specifically the bowling. I always felt that Kinect did well with bowling. Kinect Star Wars just made me tired.

Re: Talking Point: What Type Of Star Wars Games Do You Want On Xbox Series X?

orionreplay

I want a good military story from the Imperial view. Like in Solo, when he inadvertently becomes a ground pounder, there's chaos in the field. Perhaps after the fall of the 2nd Death Star and the Empire is shrinking. The Roman Legions are besieged in every quadrant and losing to every group trying to fill the vacuum. Maybe even a dark ending where you fight on a hill with no survival. No jedi. No lightsabers. Also no turncoats over to the rebellion. Just a good action game from the POV of a guy in the ranks of the Imperial army, living and dying.

Re: Report Takes Aim At Xbox Series X's 'Energy Wasting' Instant-On Mode

orionreplay

@gollumb82 Totally agree. In my house my wife and daughter will dry their hair with a hairdryer for 30 minutes everyday between the two of them. When the clothes can't get out of the dryer fast enough and just sit, she will run a shorter cycle to "fluff them up". My house came with electric heaters on the roof edges to help melt the snow. All of this is not entirely necessary, but nice-to-haves. We can all think of different things in our homes.

My Series X sitting with Instant On by default and not changed by me? There's way bigger fish to fry in my house than that device!

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Favourite Xbox Demo Disc Memories?

orionreplay

Ah, where to begin? I adored OXM. I had the sub for many years, even after the demo disks ended. Back then it truly was where you learned of something new. We had internet, but that wasn't where you went for magazine level information. You discussed with people at work and re-read articles, gleaning any info you may have missed the first 5 read-throughs, while waiting for the next issue. The demo disks could be a bit of a drag, especially if it was a month with a bunch of stuff you didn't really care for. I think I finally got to play a Brothers in Arms on the demo disk and immediately picked it up at release.

Re: Xbox Controllers Still Use AA Batteries Because Of A Duracell Deal, Suggests Spokesperson

orionreplay

I personally like using AAs. I also use Duracells that I get on Subscribe and Save from Amazon every month. We need them for just about everything else in the house with my two kids. So I always have AAs. I get about 1 month on a new set of AAs. My PS4 has the chargeable controller with no option. For me in this house, it never fails, but when I am ready to play something on the PS4, the controller is always near dead. So I go plug it in and decide to play XBox instead that evening. My coworker tells me to get a massively long charging cable for the PS4 controller, but that just seems goofy to me with two kids and 2 dogs always in the living room at the same time.

Re: 20 Years Ago Today, The Rock & Bill Gates Unveiled The Original Xbox

orionreplay

The first time I played Mechassault on Live, I turned to my girlfriend (now wife) and was like, There are people talking! These are real people!

I had done similar things on PC at the time, but never console. Console was always just a 1 or 2 person experience. Suddenly these people were coming through on that one sided headset. Most people masked their voices as Live did back then.

Everything always had this Wild West feel to it. Whether Microsoft or Sony you never knew what was coming next. We were all living it together for the first time.

Today people boot up the latest console and know multiplayer just works. You don't even really think about it.

Re: Xbox Wants To Know If You Like The PS5's Controller Features

orionreplay

My two favorite things about my PS4 controllers: the touch pad for games with inventories and the small speaker. It was annoying to me at first, but while playing a game like MLB The Show, the controller allows some close-audio to come through at your hands. Is it needed? Heck no. Is it cool? Yah a little bit! I'll admit!

Re: Feature: Here Are Our Xbox Predictions For 2021

orionreplay

I can see the S taking off. In my small friends circle, I am the only one with the Series X. The others have the S, all equally loving their S as I love my X.

I also see Cyberpunk coming to Gamepass. Where they struggled and Sony removed from the Store, Microsoft brushed their hair and kept it going, albeit with a warning. Nonetheless, it will enter the GP and exist as a AAA title in the rollcall.

Re: Year In Review: How Would You Grade Xbox In 2020?

orionreplay

Game Pass blew me away this year and made me more than happy to continue purchasing 3-month tickets. If this Ubisoft rumor becomes true, it will be an incredible 2021.

The launch was reminiscent of the 360. Hardly could get your hands on one and everyone was in a mad scramble. I skipped the One launch and got mine a year later.

I preordered my Series X via the Walmart app easily within seconds of the window opening. I then just had to wait for November.

Overall, I feel 2020 was a great year [for Xbox gaming]. 2021 should be even better!

Re: Video: We're Loving These Heartwarming Xbox Series X Christmas Reactions

@Iceman5x5 Mine was a TRS CoCo 1 back then from my parents. According to the internet, worth $399 in 1981 dollars or $1,145 today. No floppy drive, but I did have a swanky cassette deck where you had audibly listen for silence to know where to press play and run the load routine. Would spend hours entering Basic code from Rainbow Magazine to gleefully watch a square bounce across my screen. I still have the CoCo today. Quite yellowed, but still runs. I also still have my favorite cartridge, Dungeons of Daggorath.
