The Xbox user interface has had many iterations over the years as Microsoft worked effortlessly to perfectly craft the ultimate dashboard experience. Yet there's still improvements many fans would love to see come to systems and one fan has proposed those in a mock-up image.
One of the most notable inclusions is the Quick Resume icon on tiles on the dashboard, alerting players as to which games are currently running in the background. The apps have been designed to be interchangeable, too. Other inclusions consist of a setting icon in the top left and the tabs being at the top of the screen instead of down the side.

The Quick Resume feature is definitely something we'd love to see as it can be fairly annoying to see what you have running in the background. We've lost count of the amount of times we've opened games and found they've been in Quick Resume for weeks. Fortunately, Microsoft has already acknowledged it is listening to fan requests on the UI, with more updates expected in the coming months.
What changes would you like to see to the Xbox UI? Let us know in the comments below.

This looks a good idea. This screen looks much nicer than the one I currently see. Would be great if they let you choose different templates to pick from (or do they already?) instead of just changing it.
I’m also having problems with quick resume on Ori and the blind Forrest. Doesn’t seem to work for me while the medium seems to work fine so seems a bit hit and miss right now?
I really like that UI by Hunter4J, it looks so much better than the current UI which looks cluttered with multiple tiles covering the screen. At least with Hunter4J’s mock-up you can appreciate the background art without it being covered in tiles and I’d definitely have mine set to the same Halo Infinite background, it looks great.
Looks like PS5 Dash to be honest
Anything with less clutter would be nice!
It's okay, but I'm also fine with current, I'm easy.
I’m not too big a fan of the current ui and this fan design does look good. I hope for ui improvements like this could be official in the future.
The real change I would like to see is a native 4k UI on my XSX instead of 1080p to stop my TV having to switch graphics modes every time I hop into the UI from a game.
Otherwise I am pretty much fine with the look of the UI hub as it is.
Please just show me what games are in Quick Resume and how long they have left before they're dumped. Would've thought that was an obvious feature where QR was concerned.
Probably not going to happen but I'd also love the UI to be in 4K.
That looks so much better. Not a fan of the current one. Knowing what's in Quick Resume would be most helpful. Being less cluttered and featuring wonderful wallpapers that change with the game tiles (yes, like the PS5) or permanent themes would be great. And a 4K UI, having it change back and forth all the time is awful.
No. Too much wasted space. This was designed to show the wallpaper instead of being practical.
It should be the same style as windows 10. Give users the option to add/remove tiles as well as decrease/increase their sizes. If people want less clutter to see the background let them. If they want to fill the screen up with apps they should be able to as well.
why should I need to see that whole background while I can get latest sale, latest updates, news like the current xbox dashboard.
In the beginning, you may think that PS5 dashboard looks better but after few weeks will start ignoring that repetitive background.
This looks awful. It's just a big wallpaper with tiny icons. Sorry to say this, but I'm happy these fans don't work at Microsoft.
@sanderev Agree. It's not even that original, it's just the PS5 dashboard with icons at bottom instead of top.
@Medic_Alert Agreed. IMHO It needs to stick around for a while, with minor UX tweaks, while they think about their next, inevitable, redesign as a whole.
As a user interface designer my view has always been that Xbox's UI has always had a problem with aesthetics vs usability and I have a like/loath relationship with it.
The current UI is very busy and just... well... ugly, there I said it.
BUT it IS useable and feature rich now that it is snappy, unlike on XBO.
That said it is also convoluted. It's always interesting watching videos of new Xbox players feeling completely overwhelmed, menus within menus, apps launching other apps, jumping to the store and back, the B button sometimes going back one page other times behaving differently, moving tiles like Quests (where do we find that again/today?) etc. etc.
It's a confusing, rabbit warren of a mess, but WE are finally getting used to it, don't change it again please.
I'd just remove the "Tom is 500 ahead you" and "Suggested" items but I like the rest of the current UI, it has a lot of features and they are easy to use. Most of the stuff is at the bottom if you choose so, such as Community and Events.
The thing I want to see and have been discussed before is the Quick Resume icon, not just because we want to see what games are "running" on the background but because there are some games that still don't support Quick Resume. Besides, if there are games that are frozen you may want to close them and keep the one that you really want to freeze such as Final Fantasy XV when exploring the Pitioss Dungeon .
@eduscxbox Literally my first thought also... Looked at it and thought it was PS5 or something.
I don't like it, this is the same layout we had before and I think the current layout is more efficient and cleaner.
Just begging for a way to know which games are being Quick Resumed. And maybe figure out why something I put down last night isn't QR'ed this morning. Yet other times it QRs without issue (looking at you Control!)
A better view of your wallpaper? Good idea indeed.
@vyseofhr Absolutely agreed. I'm fine with what we have now in terms of visual design, I just really want them to upgrade the Home/UI to 4K for the same reason. It isn't about looks, it's about function. The only complaint whatsoever I have with the Series X is the constant handshaking that has to happen going back and forth from 1080p to 4K. It wreaks havoc on switchers/receivers especially. I have to get up and reset my switcher at least once a day because the constant handshaking loses sync.
