Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Forty

holchasaur

I started Far Cry 4 last night. I'm not too sure how I feel about it at this point. I absolutely LOVE the setting. I love that, like Red Dead Redemption, I'm surrounded by nature and the unknown. Using animals to your advantage in situations where the odds are greatly against you is awesome. There are two things that are impeding my sense of fun a bit though, and they are: the way vehicles handle and the emphasis on stealth. The vehicle clumsiness I can get past, but I didn't realize that stealth was such an integral part of some missions. I'm horrible at creeping around in certain games, and this — unfortunately — is one of them. I'll be getting some practice in later this afternoon and hopefully it just clicks with me soon enough. Other than that though, I'm very impressive with the game. The views are utterly stunning.

Re: Halo Master Chief Collection Early Adopters to Get Exclusive "Thank You" Bonuses, ODST Campaign Confirmed

@Emanouel I'm not sure there's a release date yet, but "yes" to the rest of your post.

This is super cool. I, like a couple others above, didn't care much for ODST when it launched. It's the only Halo game that I haven't played into the ground, actually. I'm happy that I finally have the perfect reason to revisit it and give it another chance. Good deal, 343.

Now we DEFINITELY need to see Reach added to MCC at some point, right? It would be odd for a single Halo game to not be incorporated in the package.

@hydeks It's SO good that I actually have a blister on my D-pad thumb from a couple days of intense playing. Have you tried out Riptor yet? I really like her. I'm still deciding between Orchid, Maya, and Jago as a main, but I might consider sticking with Riptor if she keeps leading to wins.

Now I just need to decide if I want to invest in an arcade stick ASAP, or wait until closer to MKX's release to see what kind of special edition model is announced. I'd like to wait, but I'm not sure I'll be able to hold off until April.

Re: Review: Pinball FX2 - Venom (Xbox One)

holchasaur

@TylerTreese Thanks, sir. I've been having a lot of fun with this one. Actually, I seem to like it more and more with each game I play. There are so many small details that take some time — and effort — to uncover, and I love figuring those things out. Now I just need to get that Carnage mini-game down before I can put up a high score worth bragging about.

Re: What's Out This Week: December 16th (North America)

@stylon I had a go at a preview build of Kalimba, and what I played was a lot of fun. It's a mind-bending puzzle-platformer (as said in the description) that often requires you to stop and consider your movements. The preview build only featured the first world, and it was surprisingly difficult at times — lots of trial and error. That might turn some folks off to it, but not me. I liked what I played enough that I purchased Kalimba as soon as it became available today.

Additionally, I downloaded Tetris last night and I'm slightly underwhelmed. I don't really care for the presentation and I find the music to be — for lack of a better word — blah. If you don't care about presentation and just want Tetris on your Xbox One, you'll probably be happy with the package. I'm not mad that I bought it or anything, just a little disappointed.

Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Delayed Until May 2015

holchasaur

Bummerino, man. If that extra three months means the game will be even better than it would've been, I can handle it. But these delays are still disappointing. I think pubs/devs should hold off on giving out release dates until they're at a certain point in development and absolutely sure they're going to meet the intended date.

Re: Review: Threes! (Xbox One)

holchasaur

@stylon Yeah, the cost is definitely a little steep for what's offered here. But I will say that I don't regret my purchase at all. Both my wife and I have already got a good deal of play time from Threes, especially thanks to Snap Mode.

Spot-on review, Emma. This is a great time killer and a fantastic game to download for anyone that wants to get a non-gamer's hands on an Xbox One controller.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Thirty Eight

holchasaur

@sinalefa My Dreamcast still works great actually, but I do know of people who constantly deal with serious disc read errors. Just make sure to test out the console before you buy it and you should be all good. Also, I have a series of Captain Toad guides hitting Nintendo Life starting today. If you need assistance with any of the hidden gems, be sure to check them out!

Re: OlliOlli Skates Onto Xbox One In Early 2015

holchasaur

@TylerTreese I would normally joke that you're being a wimp, but OlliOlli does get crazy hard. Now that I think about it, I might not have finished the rad challenges. I believe there were a couple giving me a really hard time.

Re: Kan-Ra Joins Killer Instinct Season 2 Next Week

holchasaur

I still haven't given this game the proper attention. I really, really want to, but I'm really, really not a fan of getting bits and pieces here and there. After all of the Season Two content has been released, maybe then I'll give in. If a story mode similar to the one in the last Mortal Kombat ever comes to be, then I'm in immediately.

Re: Stick It To This Week's Deals With Gold

holchasaur

@TylerTreese Yeah, Stick it to the Man is pretty great. There's a little bit to be desired when it comes to the gameplay, but the world and characters are so fantastic that it hardly matters. I can't wait to see what Zoink does next. The sketches they were teasing via their Twitter account during #inktober were ridiculously cool.

Re: Could Those Radical Battletoads Be Gearing Up for a Comeback?

holchasaur

@sinalefa Good point. I'm sure there are plenty of capable studios that Microsoft could call on to handle a new Battletoads. I'm not all that confident in WayForward's talents anymore, but I would love to see Battletoads with mechanics similar to Double Dragon Neon. I really dug that game. I know many others weren't as fond of it, but I thought it looked and played so damn good. It's how I imagine modern day arcade beat-'em-ups would play.

Any particular developer you'd like to see head a new 'toads project?

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Thirty Four

holchasaur

@HEADESTROYER4 I have absolutely no idea how it would run on a Surface — I'm completely unfamiliar with that hardware, to be honest. You should do a YouTube search for footage to see if it's something you'd be interested in. You basically just poke around town and interact with environments and characters. So many nods to episodes and secrets to find.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Thirty Four

holchasaur

Yeah, I agree with everyone saying that Hit & Run rules. It's a bit underwhelming when it comes to gameplay, but the open-world and all of the fan service makes up for it. And I'm with @Tasuki when it comes to the arcade game — it's easily my all-time fave Simpsons game.

Does anyone remember Virtual Springfield for the PC? Man, I spent SO many hours with that one back in the day.

Re: Discuss: Share Your Thoughts on the Evolve Big Alpha RIGHT HERE

holchasaur

I haven't even booted the Alpha yet, but I may give it a shot tonight. It seems as if opinions are very mixed right now. I've had a couple friends say that what they've played is absolutely awesome, while other's feedback could be summed up with a "meh." I imagine playing with a team that communicates and works together effectively would be what makes it an enjoyable experience. Unless you're just into destroying folks with the monster, I suppose.
