Whoopiedo, another paint-by-the-numbers open-world snoozefest from Ubisoft!
Odyssey is a gorgeous game that quickly reveals its lack of depth and originality gameplay-wise. It is also an open world that is frustratingly gated by enemies that look no different from the ones you just defeated but are impossible to defeat until you level up. The first two hours were awesome, then it quickly became a game I need to smoke before playing, and by playing I mean peacefully traversing its gorgeous landscapes while running away from boring fights.
I'm not a big AC fan, and lack time to play games these days, but it is cool to see a game unveil that isn't a flashy trailer.
@nofriendo Wow, you and I had really different experiences with Odyssey.
Hopefully this won't pester you to spend money on microtransactions as a way of not forcing you to grind for hours, in a game that shouldn't have ridiculous amounts of grinding due to the fact its not a sodding RPG!
So, definitely looks like Age of the Vikings, then. Could be interesting,
but we'll see how it turns out.
EDIT:
This has to be one of the most boring, if not THE most boring live streams that I have ever tried to watch, though.
Like a game reveal at a snail's pace. Or maybe it's even too slow for snails...
And if the name is truly Assassin's Creed Valhalla, then I'm not liking it. They could have chosen many more names to refer to the Viking Age, Midgard, for example, seeing as it'll more than likely take place on Earth, and NOT in heaven.
That guys spear has bugged me throughout - the back bit behind the hand isn't in line with the rest...
I loved Origins but have struggled to get into Odyssey - its not the game-play so much as the setting/story and world. Origins felt better to be in, better designed and flowed better.
@Incarna black flag was cross gen, they only stopped that with Unity. So they'll probably do the same here
@Incarna Yup, I did, and it was far more entertaining and lively, than seeing a painting being made on a live stream, no matter how impressive the person's skill is.
@BrilliantBill Don't get me wrong, it's definitely clear that this guy is skilled, but it was definitely out of place for a live stream reveal video, which was the point of my comment.
