Re: Ubisoft Plus Launches Today On Xbox, Full Lineup And Price Details Revealed

BrilliantBill

If it includes Day 1 releases it could kinda sorta be worth it. But again, since most Ubi games are grind-based open-worlders each 40-50 hours long, the monthly payments will soon add up to the price of the full games. Plus, their games that are not 50hr long open-worlds are live service like Siege, again a game you play all the time (supposedly). So let's see.

Re: Xbox Is Bringing Nine Bethesda Games To PlayStation Plus This Month

BrilliantBill

@Kaloudz Essentially this is GamePass minus the Day 1 releases. I also wonder if Sony eventually decides to do some Day 1 release for their AA titles on it.

@Moonglow So Marvel/Disney owns the rights for Spiderman, Sony Pictures has the rights for Spiderman movies while PlayStation got the rights for games? It is kinda funny because I know that back when they brought Spiderman into the MCU, it was Marvel collaborating and negotiating on it with Sony.

Re: Talking Point: Will We See New Xbox Hardware By The End Of 2024?

BrilliantBill

Microsoft could release a Series X Pro with 5x the power at the same price and it would change nothing. Games often run equally or even worse on Series X compared to PS5. The Series S consistently struggles in various games and cannot live up to its promise of "Series X but at 1440p" meanwhile our champion video game so far is Redfall running at 30fps. At this point, there is nothing to say that hasn't been said before by others.

@Kaloudz Depending on how long you have been with Xbox mate, this whole idea that Xbox will one day start firing all its cylinders (or pistons?) and it will be a great time is a promise that has been "coming" since the beginning days of Xbox One and the skepticism is warranted. The acquisitions of the way back then like Ninja Theory and Undead Labs still haven't released a single game. The acquisition of Bethesda is only now starting to bear fruits and the reception towards Redfall has been lukewarm so far. The less said about the drama of ABK the better. Meanwhile, let me bring out our good whipping boy 343 Industries, and how the Xbox mascot Master Chief is in the cryosleep again and Microsoft will wake him when they need him. Gears is supposedly coming someday and basically, Forza has been carrying the brand. Regardless of which way you look at it, the situation is dire.

@Dezzy70 Man, I totally understand your position.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077's 'Overdrive' Ray Tracing Upgrade Looks Incredible, But It's Only On PC For Now

BrilliantBill

@Kezelpaso CDPR, alongside Rockstar and others I think are switching to a 1-game-per-generation model. By the time their next project comes out it is either already next gen, or they shouldn't release it on Curren-gen.
Similarly with Bethesda, I think by the time they release ESVI it is PS6 and by the time of Fallout 5 either PS7 or about beginning of it (using PS naming system because Xbox next console might be called Interstellar or something.)

Re: Redfall Raw Gameplay Shows More Authentic Look At Arkane's Xbox Shooter

BrilliantBill

Weeks from launch and still not a single video that presents a representative sample of gameplay of the game in a good way. Way to go Arkane!
But fundamentally I think everyone wants to believe Redfall is anything other than an open-world co-op FPS when it isn't. I have been recently playing Back 4 Blood with my buddies and while nothing in that game is 9/10 all around it a very enjoyable gameplay loop. Hopefully Redfall pulls off the same.

@Spaceman-Spiff Games like this are only meant to be played with others in co-op and I would say with people you know and not randoms via matchmaking. Once you and your buddies figure out the game and its grind, it can be a very fun experience. But otherwise these types of games are essentially worthless, there is nothing special about them when you play alone.

Re: Halo Veteran Joseph Staten Has Announced He Is Leaving Microsoft

BrilliantBill

@BAMozzy I also think best course of action for Halo is to really tightly focus on being a AAA single player experience and be the type of game that wins GOTY awards. But sadly Microsoft is probably pivoting it to the exact opposite after firing all the campaign people.

The idea of that Tatanka game however basically shows that to some degree they know Halo cannot survive just off of its roots (including spin-offs with Halo Wars).

Re: Halo Veteran Joseph Staten Has Announced He Is Leaving Microsoft

BrilliantBill

@Korgon I think compared to back in Halo 2 and Halo 3 era where it was the undisputed king of console FPS yeah, it is kinda dead today. But just on its own Infinite is far from dead.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner I don't think CoD being on GP changes how much effect CoD has on success of Halo on Xbox. Halo will never be able to compete with CoD because Cod has a dozen studios putting out games every year, often the games are the best MP and in some years even the best SP campaign experience you can get.
Halo's problems are more between the game and its own dedicated fanbase and their opinion of the game.

Re: New Rumour Weighs In On Difficulties Between Xbox And Square Enix

BrilliantBill

I think people just need to accept that you don't get all the same experiences across both platforms. People on Xbox can keep wanting an epic third-person hack n'slash like God of War and people on PS can keep begging for a sci-fi FPS exclusive like Halo. But at some point you need to accept each platform offers a different range of experiences. You don't buy a Nintendo console if you are not into Mario and Metroid and Zelda.
Same with the whole Square Enix deal, it is a Sony company now unofficially.

Re: Arkane 'Very Proud' Of Lack Of Microtransactions In Redfall

BrilliantBill

@InterceptorAlpha I personally always found Arkane's games have this specific X-factor to their art style and design that just makes them look weird to me. Like all human or humanoid characters have that signature look they started from Dishonoured with huge pointy noses and so on. It is bit of a pet peeve and critics seem to really love this studio. But for me I have to see about this one and see how it plays.

Re: 'State Of Unreal 2023' Shows Off The Immense Potential Of Future Xbox Games

BrilliantBill

@Moonglow To be fair, if you look at how graphically mind-blowing Sony's exclusives have been across PS4 and PS5 generations, they hardly need it. GoW:Ragnarok and Horizon: FW were both cross-gen games and they are both extremely handsome looking on PS5. Microsoft needed to hug UE5 very tight because not a single studio under Xbox has a truly good in-house engine. 343's Slipspace looked stunning in its tech-demo reveal but none of that made it into the games. Meanwhile the Creaton engine is famous for always being one console generation behind.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Helps Atomic Heart Reach 5 Million Players In Under A Month

BrilliantBill

@Moonglow Microsoft often adopts games like Atomic Heart as a semi-exclusive, they are multi-platform but they are associated with Xbox and Day 1 on GP makes them feel like an exclusive when it is 80 euros elsewhere.
It is a shame that AH still launched with a Series X version more buggy than the PS5 version. Whatever the reason, Microsoft and devs need to make sure that doesn't repeat itself.

Re: Gears Of War Teams Up With Marvel Writer For Upcoming Netflix Movie

BrilliantBill

@Fenbops To be fair resident evil that they did was still better than those abominations with Mila Jovovic. The Witcher also had some success in the first season at least.
I think you can never say it in such general terms. Marvel is still the studio that made many great superhero movies, Netflix has dozens of good tv shows and even adaptations of video games (Arcane for example).
People tend to say HBO is the holy grail after this recent Last of Us adaptation, but completely forget how HBO botched the last season of Game of Thrones and how their Watchmen adaptation was also a complete mess. Also people miss how the adaptation of TLoU is probably the easiest of adaptations since every Naughty Dog game is like a TV Series anyway and their cinematic storytelling has always been superior to their gameplay and design.

Re: Gears Of War Teams Up With Marvel Writer For Upcoming Netflix Movie

BrilliantBill

@Jslade @LordFunkalot I think it depends on more variables. He has been involved with some great movies, such as Dune, and some decent ones such as the first Doctor Strange. If he really is a fan and appreciates the universe, we are safe for now. It still depends on the casting and director and other things.

But in general after the Halo show on Paramount+ and the way "fans" reacted to it, the bar is not very high. Unless Netflix is somehow dedicated to screwing this up, we should be fine.

Re: Talking Point: Red Dead 2's Five-Year Anniversary Is Upon Us, How About A Next-Gen Upgrade?

BrilliantBill

@NarutosBiggestFan The amount of time and effort a 60FPS update to RDR2 takes is microscopic next to the gigantic task of making RDR3.
For me RDR2 is the best game of that console generation and probably the generation before it as well. It is the sort of game that felt there was nothing held back, nothing compromised and everything rich, detailed and well done all the way to 11.
