It's been confirmed today that E3 2023 has officially been cancelled. The news was broken by IGN in a report, followed by a public statement from ReedPop's Global VP of Gaming (Kyle Marsden-Kish) acknowledging the cancellation.
The statement mentions that the decision was difficult to make, but it was ultimately a necessary one:
"This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences."
If you're wondering, the cancellation of E3 2023 won't effect the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11th, and we'll still have other events to look forward to around that time, but sadly E3 won't be part of the summer festivities this year.

Have such wonderful memories of E3 back in the day.
The suspension, excitement and revealing of consoles and games.
The cheers and gasps of the crowd the euphoria.
RIP E3 I shall miss the old days shared with you.
E3 was somewhat torpedoed by the situation over COVID and Summer Game Fest and the Game Awards claiming a lot of it's big reveals.
Rest in peace, E3. You shall be remembered.
Well that's it I guess. As long as the big guns do their own showcases I'm good with it.
@ValentineMeikin Thanks Wuhan...
@Xiovanni This is your fault
https://youtu.be/VSJuHDBueT0 We will never get this again...... My body is NOT ready for this....
rip. covid aside, when was the last time e3 was really great? once they got rid of the booth babes imo.
Pretty pointless today as the internet has replaced the 'need' for trade shows. Companies don't need a trade show to speak to the press and tell them what they have in store for the season ahead and into next year so they can spread the message to Gamers through their media, they can now do their own show when and where they want and speak directly to the gamers - bypass the Press and hassle of a Trade show...
It did become an institution and kick off the 'exciting' season of game releases and gaming events but it's no longer 'relevant' as proven by many now opting to do their OWN show as and when it suits...
An end of an era. As we all know E3 has been on the decline for years but it was at its peak back in the early 2000’s, it was THE main gaming event back then but as others have said, times have changed and the internet has played a massive part in it.
Even though Geoff Keighley has his Summer Games Fest and other publishers have their own events to showcase their games, the internet can still be their undoing as leaks can undermine their events and anything they reveal will be considered old news and of no surprise.
It will be missed (it already is as geoff 's shows bloody suck in pacing...). RIP
Great memories of E3, but I knew this was coming.
The fact that Summer Games fest is happening a week or two before this just made it redundant. I feel bad for all the folks who were looking forward to this and booked flights/hotels for it. Personally i prefer just checking out the Xbox showcase as I just play gamepass so any announcements outside of it i don't pay attention to. All the other shows throughout the year i just come to pure Xbox to see the highlights and watch any trailers that sound interesting. Annoying that Keighley is in control of some of the biggest showcases as it's all about ad revenue for him in the appearance of putting games first. He also has a clear bias which is why I think Xbox has been showing less big announcements at his shows and just saving it for their own.
Xbox presentation eases the sting, but a Nintendo Direct would make this a lot more bearable.
Just never seen this show happening, it seems as if that was a time in which that was the best way to present, as to now they can do direct style presentations, save money and have more control over it. I just want the news and know what to be excited for and couldn’t care one way or the other as to how i learn about what’s ahead. That said i am super excited for the June showcase and think it needs to be big and build up some momentum towards what the vision is for Xbox and all the new studios. Will we see everything we want? Probably not, but as long as it’s a good roadmap and has a few surprises i think us players will be happy.
Been to E3 with a press card in the 2000's was awesome surely miss those days, well we still got Gamescom which is awesome too and in my neck of the woods, you all have to come to Europe then 😊
@Trmn8r Haha! so many good memories, and funny ones like this. But there was nothing quite like a live audience and i'll miss the orchestra. That aside this all makes sense. But end of an era!
Wait? So I'm gonna have to go elsewhere to see trailers for games that are 6 years away from having another 2 year delay that inevitably canceld 3 years after that?
Awwww man.
Flogging this dead horse was always a silly move.
Lots of us remember E3 with fondness.
I also remember plugging carts into a games machine and instantly having a playable game without patches.
All things change. Whether its 'for the better' or not doesn't really matter.
E3 lost its soul the moment it stopped being trade only.
I used to attend the London ECTS regularly as well, and they did the same, opened it to the public which meant it became pointless and inevitably failed.
@Kaloudz e3 killed e3 covid just put the show out of its misery sooner... this was inevitable, it was a slow lead up to this then covid accelrated it and finished the show off... lets be honest E3 has been on a decline for at least a decade, with more and more companies pulling out and doing their own thing...
This Hurts. I love E3!!! Such wonderful memories
