Re: Xbox's New Job Advert Is Amazing News For Backwards Compatibility

BacklogBrad

Hopefully they get to a point where most or all of the xbox store is natively playable anywhere you have the xbox app. This would be a major advantage to xbox as all playstation and Nintendo purchases are currently locked to their device. I do not consider any 3rd party purchases on those platforms for that reason.

There are rumors that Sony is also working on a pc app with cross entitlements for all purchases, hopefully that becomes a reality too. Until then I am primarily steam/gog/epic with an eye on xbox for play anywhere titles.

Re: FTC Suffers Another Major Blow In Fight Against Xbox Activsion Deal

BacklogBrad

Not shocking that they couldn't provide enough evidence of it lessening competition because it doesn't lessen competition at all. It was not a good faith argument from the beginning, they just wanted to get in the way of a major company. I'm glad Khan is out of the FTC and her policy of tying up companies in court to inconvenience them out of their legal behavior is over.

Re: Opinion: If Xbox Is 'Just' A Game Pass Machine, That's Still Enough For Me

BacklogBrad

Series X and S are both great consoles. They offer a lot more than just gamepass. Yes gamepass is amazing and the best deal out there but both consoles are great even without it.

Series S with the xscreen attached is underrated. Such a great device. I can't wait to see the next line of hardware they offer. I dont think xbox has ever had a more exciting future.

Re: Xbox Announces Gears Of War: Reloaded, Releasing Summer 2025

BacklogBrad

I hope the multiplayer pops off with the introduction of ps5 and steam users. I will dive head first into that again.

Personally not that excited for the campaign to be getting yet another remaster/update. The 360 version is still fun and the ultimate remaster was great. I imagine i will end up doing another playthrough but it will probably end up like oblivion where I still feel the original is my preferred way to play the game.

I wish they were wrapping 1-3 and judgement into one package so the multiplayers would be in one place.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Still Buy An Xbox At Microsoft's 2025 Prices?

BacklogBrad

I might have to rethink the buy every console mentality. I have a great pc and since I love gamepass ultimate paired with console/pc/cloud, I would probably keep buying the new xbox as a secondary platform. Switch 2 and ps6 might not be happening for me though.

Pc is thoroughly more appealing than anything console related now. They really just can't compete with steam anymore.

Re: Indie Dev Defends Xbox Game Pass As Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sells Most On PS5

@Elbow i must be doing it wrong then. I have had gamepass for years and still buy hundreds of games.

I imagine it's kind of like a study done on pirating movies. The study showed that people who pirated movies tended to spend more money legally than average consumers on movies as well.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/study-again-shows-pirates-tend-to-be-the-biggest-buyers-of-legal-content/

With the ps5 user base it would be downright shocking if games sold better on xbox.

Re: Subscriptions Like Xbox Game Pass 'Not The Future Of Gaming', Says Analyst

BacklogBrad

Subscription services are definitely a part of the future but won't take over the industry like it has for music and film/tv. Publishers that do have subscription platforms have made the right call by not releasing exclusives into the subscriptions that can only be played with a sub. Game sales and subscription services will both continue being a valid option.

Subscriptions services will be a major part of playstation, nintendo, and xbox for a long time.

Re: Reaction: Xbox's Third-Party Strategy Is Finally Making Sense To Me

BacklogBrad

It has always been easy to see the benefits of going multiplatform. I think all publishers would benefit from being fully 3rd party. It's nice to see the industry trending towards this reality.

I'm looking forward to xbox focusing on making innovative hardware that isn't relying on exclusive games as the sole selling point.

Re: Oblivion Remastered Players Share Their Initial Reviews On Xbox, PS5 & PC

BacklogBrad

I was always of the opinion that this game didn't need a remaster (fallout 3 and morrowind do) and I still mostly feel that way. It does look better and play slightly better but it's still very much the same. If you played it already and didn't love it then, I doubt you will now either. Great for newcomers and maybe people who really love the original like me.

Re: PSA: DOOM: The Dark Ages Has An Early Access Upgrade For Xbox Game Pass Players

BacklogBrad

@ZuneTattooGuy played both games and loved them but it's definitely an unknown quality. We dont even know if it will have dlc at this point other than it is currently planning to. I love ID but there is no chance I blindly purchase something with zero details. Halo infinite, and redfall were planning on campaign dlc too, starflied dlc was poorly recieved. Those are some of my favorite studios too, misses happen. If you want to blindly support something that doesn't currently exist by all means go ahead. It's a complete unknown at this point.

Even if you don't think ID is capable of missing, they report to bethesda which reports to xbox which reports to Microsoft which reports to shareholders. There are infinite ways that this can be screwed up.

Re: Roundup: The First Impressions Of Marathon Are In

BacklogBrad

I don't plan on playing this unless it changes to free or is part of gamepass. Odds are neither of those happen. Extraction shooters don't do it for me and I certainly don't want to pay $40 to see if this is the one that somehow overcomes that. I am also not a very big Bungie fan in general. I'm staying far away from this one.

Re: Nintendo's Doug Bowser Just Channelled One Of The Most Infamous Xbox Quotes Ever

BacklogBrad

Charging $10 for what they are calling "nintendo switch 2 welcome tour" might be the most out of touch moment in gaming history. If there is actually substance to this "game" instead of the pixel counter or rumble demonstration that was shown then definitely show that instead.

And call it something else, it sure sounds like they are charging you for the tutorial you would see when booting something like a phone for the first time. Maybe that is all they are doing, it is Nintendo after all.

Playstation basically gave a 3 hour game on par with any 3d mario for free as their ps5 tech demo.

Re: Xbox's Next-Gen Vision Could Transform How We Look At Consoles In The Future

BacklogBrad

@StonyKL if it is fully pc based it would essentially be a pre-built which is pretty popular for those who don't want to put a machine together. Designing one as a "console experience" would have some appeal. From Microsofts perspective buying a different pc that is still windows based would be similar to buying their xbox pc. It would still require a windows key be purchased so it really wouldnt be that much of a loss if you opted for a different windows based machine. I imagine theirs will have an xbox UI out of the box that will make this more controller friendly than straight windows.

But it's important to realize that microsoft isn't trying to make an Xbox that will outsell every other platform. If you choose a different pc they say "great! Thanks for choosing windows. Have you tried pc gamepass, the hit new Xbox games, or any of the other microsoft products like office, teams, etc.?"

Re: Xbox's Next-Gen Vision Could Transform How We Look At Consoles In The Future

BacklogBrad

Consoles have been due for an overhaul for years now. Hopefully xbox can shake things up. I believe the pc "console" revolution is happening regardless of what the big 3 do but I believe that xbox can be a leader in it with the biggest pc operating system and experience of designing a console UI around controllers.

I am sure the steam console will work great and lenovo, asus, etc will make their own. Microsoft can really deliver with a windows designed for this but xbox needs to be in control of that project. Office 365, teams, outlook, etc have no place in a handheld or home console pc.
