Avowed is proving to be one of Xbox's big stars for Gamescom 2024 - it's getting lots of air time through various previews, interviews and demo sessions. And, to cap this year's event off, Microsoft has shown absolutely loads of new gameplay to fans as part of its final daily livestream at the 2024 convention.
Up above, you can feast your eyes on a mammoth gameplay demo from Obsidian's upcoming Xbox RPG. To make things better, it's an extended section of the game, giving us all a better idea of what Avowed will actually look and feel like to play in February 2025.

We get a good look at most aspects of the game here, including combat, exploration, dialogue choices, story missions and everything in between. It's all looking very far along for a pre-launch look - we're starting to believe that the game was delayed to avoid a busy holiday season now; as Microsoft said earlier this month!
Of course, there's also been some controversy surrounding this particular Xbox release today. In short, the team at Obsidian has confirmed that the game is aiming for a 30FPS frame rate target on Xbox Series X|S at launch - a target that some fans are still getting to grips with as Gamescom 2024 comes to a close.
RPG fans, what do you think to the look of this Avowed demo? Drop your thoughts on the extended look down below.

Cool. Looking forward to playing it on my ps5.
I would be quite shocked if there is no 60fps patch down the line, everyone calm down.
And of course it's looking far along. It was supposed to be out in a couple of months. It's probably finished I would think.
@Hexamex-Tex Looking at the gameplay it looks very suited to being played in vr so perhaps we will get a PSVR2 patch too 😂
@Hexamex-Tex and Microsoft look forward to you spending $70 for the privilege
I’ll be paying $20, playing it earlier and enjoying rtx at 60fps
Every comment will now be PS5 based lol
I wish all the best to the team and I hope the game sells well but this isn't doing it for me. Normally I love fantasy-style games but the lack of romance, poor number of companions, and overall tone are simply dealbreakers for me. I was hoping for a Dragon Age style fix before Veilguard but alas...
Phil indie Spencer loves 30 frames on the most powerful system
@UndyingInsurgent95 Couldn’t have said it better myself. The visual aesthetic is the dealbreaker for me, even more so than the blow it’s capped at 30fps. Looking at it calls to mind those garish, hideous art supplies made by Lisa Frank in the ‘90’s. I too was hoping for a complete visual makeover, but sadly, nope.
Gonna look great in 120fps on my PC.
@Vipor007 Twitter-intelligent comments for sure 🤭 some people just live for the likes so whatever gets more for them
Not quite "uncut" is it with them keep cutting to the developers and then to the gameplay.
The more I see the more it's not for me. I hope it's good for those looking forward to it though.
@TheSimulator phils an idiot
Oh dear, another Xbox S fail 🤷🏻♂️
30fps on the X is shocking.
STOP IT NOW!
If you can’t release any game at 60Fps then don’t f%#$ing bother!
I shouldn't have watched that, it was really discouraging
The " burning spider web",....uh
Oh wow ......... That was massively underwhelming. It didn't look like it was holding 30fps the whole time either.
Why can't this run at 60? Nothing looks like it's resource heavy.
Textures are very average
Particles effects very ho hum
Low enemy numbers
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON AT XBOX????.??....????????
Personally I like what I see, let's just hope a 40 and a 60fps modes happen on BOTH Series X and S before launch.
I love the environment art/detail. I can't really get a feel for the combat from this video, I might just need to try it for myself to see if I'm imagining it being kind of stilted. Maybe it's a case of feeling better when playing rather than watching.
@Neither_scene Sony looks forward to it even more, especially if they buy it digitally, seeing as they'll take both the platform holder cut and retailer cut.
Gawd how could you trick me like that lol. I thought there was an a demo.. for all of us
Back to cyberpunk, which I've just started (well I played 5 hours at launch then waited) and so far so good. I needed a wukong break, it's shiney and pretty especially at 4k60 cinematic with vhigh RT (DLSS balanced) but the gameplay itself is as deep as a puddle. Still fun but... Not what I was expecting based on the post launch hype
@CallMeDuraSouka if you understand how rendering works it looks very much like a game that would be under 60 on such old hardware, especially running on UE5. Between the visuals on a heavy engine and the higher CPU use you generally get from an RPG like this..it just makes sense.
Lowering resolution can only get you so far
Perhaps they will be able to hit 40 but I'm not worried, I have a PC for these scenarios.
@Vipor007 the PS5 comments are stupid. If you don't like Xbox fine but guess what millions of us do. If you want Xbox to die you're a massive fool, you think Sony is going to make gaming better for everyone? Nope, they will hold the high end console market over a barrel worse than they already do. Competition is good for the gaming market, trust me you don't want Nintendo & PlayStation as the only console makers.
Side note.. I own a Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, & a Series S. My wife owns a Xbox Series S and a PlayStation 5. Our household we just love games. Our primary consoles that we play the most is our Xbox consoles, our PlayStation 5 consoles are mainly used for PlayStation exclusives.
At the end of the day we love gaming and Xbox is doing better now than at any point during the Xbox One generation, no they're not outselling PS5s but they are making money off of the PlayStation playerbase and turning around and investing heavily into the Xbox ecosystem which is still the best ecosystem in all of console gaming IMO.
We have access to 4 generations of Xbox games thanks to substantial investment into backwards compatibility by Xbox, we have the Xbox store which sells games and movies, and last but not least we have gamepass ultimate which gives us access to hundreds of too quality of games, PLUS we get a 20% discount if we choose to buy any of those game & we get access to Xbox cloud gaming which is something I'm taking advantage of more now than ever. It's nice using my Gamesir X2s to play Cloud games while laying next to my wife while she watches her favorite TV shows lol.
Long Live Xbox, happy gaming ✌️
@Vipor007 Almost like alienating your fanbase isn't a good idea. 😂 No point buying an Xbox if you can play all their game elsewhere.
Thankfully I have a PC so I can just play all the Xbox stuff there, at 100+fps, since Microsoft seems incapable of launching 60fps on a console unless it is. On top of that games are cheaper, online is free, mountains of mods, etc. To add insult to injury, while I'm finally building a new one, one of my PC's that are 10 years old is still running circles around modern consoles.
As a matter of fact, I think I'm going to hop into VR, on my VR treadmill, another area Microsoft has completely ignored and told people to bugger off if they wanted. Wanna know what sounds real fun right now Halo VR. Something else I can do on PC, and something Microsoft should have done on Xbox ages ago.
I skipped through as it’s hard to watch 30mins right now, but wasn’t amazed by what I saw. Looked a bit garish, and otherwise quite Skyrim-ish? Which could be fun; but something isn’t clicking for me right now. Not sure what exactly…maybe the lack of great music in that video, or much understanding of the world (is Pillars of Eternity a pre-requisite for the plot?)
Every time I see this game I'm amazed how boring and uninspired it seems. The devs chose this part of the game to 'show off' and everything about it is dull.
30fps is the least of the games problems with animation, voice acting and gameplay as painfully average. Why would anyone pay full price for this? It's maybe a wait for the goty version when it's heavily discounted and even then probably not. 👎
