Although there were rumours last month that EA'S next entry in the Battlefield series would not support older platforms like the Xbox One, it seems this is not the case.
During the company's full-year earnings call on Tuesday, EA's CEO Andrew Wilson clarified the game will be coming to "current-gen and next-gen" platforms including Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 5 and PC.
“Battlefield will be available for both current-gen and next-gen as will our sports titles"
Wilson also addressed concerns about how "past generation" titles compare to next-generation and noted how EA's teams are capable of getting the very best out of older generation systems.
“I had the great fortune of growing up in this company and building games on multiple generations, and I think when you think about our infrastructure around our Frostbite team, our digital services teams, and our game teams, you have unbelievable experience getting the very best out of the past generation consoles to ensure that even as we move to the next generation, we’re getting more and more out of the old generation platforms, and so those games are going to look great.
In a post on social media, EA has also revealed this new Battlefield game will be revealed this June. Geoff Keighley reconfirmed this:
How do you feel about a cross-platform Battlefield release? Which system will you be picking this game up on when it arrives? Leave a comment down below.

I’m not surprised the new generation has sold well but with supply issues not enough for a business to develop costly games and only sell to a limited audience.
Being cross generation there will be nearly 200 million hundred potential console gamer customers, instead of say roughly 30 million by Christmas.
Glad to hear. Despite what many gamers want to believe, ditching last gen consoles will not magically fix Cyberpunk 2077. Many people are either unemployed or paid minimum wage, and even when they do have money the PS5 and Xbox Series are sold out anyways. True next gen titles will come later, when people can actually get a new console and developers optimize their engines for the new consoles.
Disappointing but expected
Il probably pick this up on my series s or hopefully comes to gamepass, I wonder if it will be cross platform aswell
Unless a game can truly only be run on next gen hardware all publishers will be looking at across gen due to the massive shortages of next gen hardware. Haven't they recently announced a few games that were next gen only launching on last gen a few months later? Think it was Godfall (i know, who cares) and one or two more titles. They are going to where the player population is...and that's last gen for the reminder of the year most likely.
With the ridiculously low numbers of next gen consoles out in the wild, this is their only option.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's cross-play and the next-gen simply has a few exclusive game modes with higher player counts and destruction.
Highly doubt there will be any other scenario.
Completely understandable and expected, same as every other recent generation we will get mostly cross-gen releases for 1-2+ years.
While PS5 is the fastest selling console, there can't be more than 10-13 million total next gen systems out there. There will be more by the time this drops but it won't be a big enough install base for a this type of mega budget AAA series.
Would I prefer it to be next gen only, selfishly yes, but this makes sense for both the publisher and the masses.
