Re: Talking Point: Are Small Games Kinect's Future?

James

I don't doubt that we'll see lots of new stuff at E3 this year, and the article is in no way trying to write off Kinect retail stuff, but I do think there's a big gap in the market for smaller games

I think lots of studios will have ideas that would work really well on Kinect, but aren't necessarily big enough to make it to retail — that's where smaller games could really work. I'd like more Kinect games in general, though!

I think the "Better with Kinect" flash is a marketing idea; for PlayStation Move games they say "PlayStation Move features" which might have been a better idea here. Haven't tried it with Kinect yet (playing the PS3 version at the moment.)

Hate to say it but your next great Kinect game is probably six months away.

@Wiggadun The Master Performance mode is much harder, and remember Kinect is tracking your whole body here, not just one controller! I think the emphasis here isn't just on dancing, it's about the overall performance — that's what MJ was all about after all!

@abHS4L In the Dance or Performance mode it's can be quite slow, but each song has a different routine so some will be faster, some slower etc. The Master Performance modes are generally very fast and tough, and although they're not available for every song they are on the big ones: Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean, Beat It etc.

@Dirtyvu Thanks for the confirmation!

Spot on! I think the one thing this does brilliantly — more so than any Kinect game so far — is make you feel like someone else. You should have seen me going for it (when nobody was in!) to some of the songs. It's great fun even on your own, especially if you're a massive MJ fan like me. SHAMONE!

Yes, yes it should! Good spot

@ManicMilner This is worth a play now, Wipeout might not be out for months yet so this will tide you over until then.

I know in the UK this is only about £20 from certain places, and worth the price of admission at that.
