I think the take away here is that a video game has been recognized and awarded as a form of entertainment and art at some would say is one of the the highest levels.
You can love or hate the Oscars, but it to me is the point that not only are we bigger then the movie industry financially, we can go head to head with them to when it comes to story. We all knew that, now others will realize that to.
One does have to reserve judgement of this game seeing as well, we haven't seen anything with it. Definitely on the radar though.
I as well as others do raise an eyebrow to trying to 'rush' the game for holiday, I think Microsoft does need to be careful here. I mean beyond having a Cyberpunk fiasco, you don't want to start tainting GamePass with rushed and unfinished exclusives, as you'll start tainting not the developers, but the GamePass brand.
.. and you know Microsoft doesn't want to start doing that.
Ya I'm not sold. Didn't even watch it all. Annoying more then anything to me. Get to the point of a low price and a crap ton of games including day 1 exclusives, to the back drop of some pumping/energy music.
Annoyingly I can't have the older version of a system, needing it or not so I did sell my XboxOne X and bought a Series X.
That said, I would 99.9% only be using for the media stuff and not playing games. GamePass has me playing more console then I have been in the last 20 years. (bit of a PC arpg/mmo type guy)
Drop the company names for a second and understand that they're publicly traded businesses, and will do what they need to do, to ultimately make money.
At that level, does anyone think they care about the whole MS vs Sony narrative?
Anyway, I think the positive to take away from this is Sony isn't sitting around and are exploring what options they have out there. Who says they aren't 'exchanging ideas' with Google or other cloud solutions as well.
Have they even said anything about Horizon 5 yet? I can't see them releasing the games within a year of each other at the least so there's no way it's this year.
Tried a bit today on the PC. Just MLB as I figure if that doesn't play well, nothing will. I do have to say it was pretty clean overall. I bit of juttering during some cut scenes but otherwise I was impressed. Will try something more action based tomorrow.
@BAMozzy Oh I agree.. accept this time is different. Praising Sony for games on their own system is all good, praising them for a game they didn't want on Xbox is another thing.
It's simply GamePass, or a knock off version (Nintendo GamePass?). Microsoft wants it on every device possible and Nintendo is going to have a new one this year. What games are on it will depends on the power of the new device and thats it. Because the specs are known, and there's storage, I'm thinking you'll be able to download and play as well.
Haha.. oh Phil, stirring the pot eh? I'm actually surprised he said that as he usually doesn't do these things. Sony in no way wanted Xbox to have this game and it only happened cause MLB made it so.
Ya.. I do have to say I'm pretty tired of 'we making so many games, but we can't talk about them yet, and thus you aren't going to see them for years' stuff.
Hopefully E3 changes that, and hopefully it's done by saying they've actually got other games coming out this year beyond Halo.
Will be interesting to see if Xbox logos appear on Deathloop or GhostWire. I mean they haven't on Minecraft.
I'm thinking they won't personally. Xbox didn't develop any of these games in house, from scratch like MLB was. It would be bad taste imo for them to be all, 'we own them now so here's our logo in your face'. Might even turn some Sony peoples from buying the game entirely.
Maybe down the road we'll start seeing Xbox Studios or something.. but again that hasn't happened for Minecraft in how long.. I don't know if they really care as long as you're buying the game.
@Tharsman I don't know if I would be totally surprised to see Google come in and buy it up. They did invest a lot I'm sure into Stadia, and did take a shot at developing in house, which I'm sure was a big investment as well. Failing that, they could just try and buy some studios.
Beyond that, I really like your response in that it's not just a Xbox or Sony thing. The gaming verse is just getting larger with more groups trying to get a piece of the pie. Interesting times.
EDIT: IMO, I don't feel the need for Microsoft to buy them, unless they can get them on the cheap. I would like to see MS now focus on actually pumping out some first party games with the already large amount of studios they have.
Ya I don't get it. It's not just a demo type game. Also... seems a bit over the top(?) with the structure of it. Pick this place or the other, or both, but only an hour! Hurry up! And early access and a pre download, for a little 1 hour demo?
I'm sure it'll be a fine game but a bit of overhyping or something there.
Really exciting time to be an Xbox and even just a gaming fan in general. I don't suspect we'll hear anything 'big' until E3, but crazy enough, it's not really that far off!
Being a big hockey fan (I'm Canadian eh?) and with NHL 21 just coming out yesterday on GamePass, you would think I would be good to go. Nope! I'm much more looking forward to MLB The Show.
There's just something so chill about playing a baseball game and I think the last time I did was.... TurboGrafx 16.
The only thing that makes sense here is GamePass on the Switch, and the Switch Pro if rumors of it coming out this year is true (tell me a Switch Pro bundled with GamePass wouldn't FLY off the shelves).
Microsoft doesn't care about as much about console sales, and where their games are played. They want subscriptions. If Nintendo (or even Sony) want GamePass, MS will stumble over their own feet to get the service on there.
They don't own iPhones, or Androids or Samsung's where their pushing GamePass. They want you subscribed, with a Microsoft login, and in their ecosystem.
I thought it was 'neat' .. I guess? At the time though, I would have much rather had just some pumping music and clips of gameplay to get you excited about the console.
Really enjoyed it solo, however I feel now finishing the story, it's really multiplayer or nothing. Might be just me but, to truly push tiers etc (at least with a non fotm class), you need a team.
How come? Cause it's a mobile game? I mean if so, people need to realize mobile gaming has been bigger then PC and console gaming combined for years now. Just cause they don't do mobile (like myself) doesn't mean that's not where the money is at.
Sony doesn't have, nor really ever will have Microsofts infrastructure, so if they wanted to deliver a 1:1 service (streaming, cross progression, etc) they would have to keep paying MS for that like they are with PSNow, or partner with Google (which would make more sense to me).
Day 1 exclusive releases look to be the easy win, but is it financially viable if you don't have the full package that GP gives. I just can't see it.
In the end, it's all down to money and available resources/infrastructure, and Microsoft has both in abundance, and a huge head start.
I'm actually kind of surprised at how little this list is. Some games are just better played with mouse/keyboard and I have a hard time thinking that it would be a stretch to include it as an option on console, especially when most of the games have PC releases.
I think the appeal of bringing out your game to not only console and PC, but to mobile to via Gamepass might have Kojima interested. Rumors were he wasn't overly impressed with the Death Stranding sales on the Playstation, and had to push to get it out on PC where Sony was hesitant as it lives off it's 'exclusive' tag for it's consoles.
I'm sure Kojima is ok for money, and if not MS can back the truck up for that. Kojima is an artist and any artist would want ones work to go to as may people as possible. MS is FAR better suited to do that then anyone else.
Hmm.. how about it's both Sega and Ubisoft? The swirl could play as a combo of both, and it does mention partnership'S'.
As well, it's talking Microsoft Publishing, so maybe MS will become the publisher of their games, at least for the Xbox, and if true, you know they would come to GamePass day 1.
What I really like about the game is there are no healing potions, and that you heal yourself with your damage. While you can still play back behind cover ala Gears, you can also go full tilt and blast your way through stuff (depending on gear mods etc of course). Then there's the happy medium in between which you'll gravitate to depending on your playstyle. It's really nice.
Definitely a good move, and more so with the shortages in PS5s people were wanting, it's going to get more people into the GamePass ecosystem, and I think we all know, once your there, there's no leaving
That said, I would rather get another X for a second TV, simply because I just hate white controllers.
Even though I don't play them much, sports games are huge. Just ask EA and how big they've become because of them. Or maybe ask Sega and the Dreamcast when Sony and EA made an exclusivity deal for their sports games, it was an instant nail in the Dreamcast console. Having these all on GP is a win for fans, and PR for Microsoft/Xbox brand.

Re: Xbox Fans Think Forza Horizon 5 Might Be Heading To Mexico
Ya.. maybe it's just nitpicking.. I'm sure it'll be awesome.
Re: Xbox Fans Think Forza Horizon 5 Might Be Heading To Mexico
My only concern with that would be the lack of seasons, which I feel added a lot to FH4.

Always wanted to try this game! Got to get working on that backlog, what a great problem to have. Thanks GamePass!
Re: The New Internet Browser On Xbox Is Adding Keyboard & Mouse Support
Bit of a head scratcher it took this long.. but welcome none the less! Now I've got to look into a lap solution for this.

Re: EA Says 'Get Ready For A Full Reveal' Of The Next Battlefield Soon
@S1ayeR74 I read the rumor was it's in the future 10 years out. I could handle that.

Re: EA Says 'Get Ready For A Full Reveal' Of The Next Battlefield Soon
Outriders and MBL are good, but if they get an uber AAA game like this one GamePass Day 1, nothing would be off limits from there on out.

@Senua iOS and PC streaming.. and maybe.. just maybe something with Nintendo? Easily.

Getting more people on GamePass this way with this huge drop tied in with All Access.. just another smart move by Microsoft.
Re: Random: Here's Zelda: Twilight Princess Running On Xbox Series X
I have an X, and pondered getting and S just for this. Worst case I don't mess up my main console.
Then I remembered I have GamePass.. no time for more games

Either way.. imo the LoTR story has been told. Wasn't really looking forward to this prequal 'free to play' MMO anyways.
