We've got bad news to share for Hogwarts Legacy fans, as it's being reported today by Bloomberg that the planned DLC expansion for the game has been cancelled, and so has the Definitive Edition that was in the works.
The outlet says "people familiar" with the plans chalked it down to an "ongoing restructuring" at Warner Bros. Games, as well as fears that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered".
The expansion, which would have added new storylines to the original game, had been planned for release this year alongside a “Definitive Edition” with all of the content.
Not much is known about what might have been included in this Hogwarts Legacy DLC, but one of the storylines apparently might have been restored from the cutting room floor - focused around a companion from the original game.
Despite this cancellation, it's stated that Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software is still working on a sequel as things stand, so here's hoping it doesn't suffer a cancellation too. Surely they wouldn't scrap a sequel too, right?!

Bummer, but I don't care too much as long as they give me a sequel.
So they scrap paid DLC for one of the few games that was a huge success for them. Makes sense…
If it gives the devs less stress to make the next one shine and advance with new gameplay features then you can't go wrong I suppose.
Hopefully they don't get pushed to waste time & effort on silly micro-transactions that leads the game to be un optimised with trash added on because since it is Warner Bros it wouldn't suprise me.
I'm struggling to get through the main campaign myself on the game since buying the game in December so I'm not to bothered I won't be buying the sequel regardless of what happens I'll finish the game but that's it!
It's a decent game but I'd only be into it when the first movie dropped years ago to childish for me!
They didn’t cancel the DLC. They just decided to pretend they did so they can sell at as a $70 game.
On the bright-ish side, the DLC will definitely be included in the sequel.
I’ll bet the DLC just got absorbed into the main game to expedite development.
Still haven't played the first one after swearing off Harry Potter. But I have heard it's fun, and tbh, with everything trying hard to be "live service"-lite, I can respect a developer that says no, this is the game, this is the experience we wanted players to have, and this is the ending we want. And now we're moving to a new game.
It makes sense, the game has been out a while so doing DLC now would be kind of pointless. If they really want to continue the franchise they should just time skip and work on a second game. I do wonder how well a second game would do however as exploring hogwarts a second time would lose all its magic.
The main route of the game was a decent story, and the main side quests where goos.Exploration of the castle and hogsmeade was great, with the forbidden forest also being okay. The open world past those main areas however felt pretty generic, repetative and largely pointless however. It was basically 8 areas that all felt the same.
I'd rather no dlc, just make a new game. Don't make us shell out on a pitiful add on.
Rather new game.
Disappointing, but hopefully it frees them up to go full steam on the sequel.
Perfectly fine with this.
Majority of DLC just pure money grab. Overpriced and severly lacking in content.
Use that development time and funds toward a sequel. Better end result.
@darylb24 It doesn’t really free them up… As I’m pretty sure the DLC and definitive edition was being worked on by Rocksteady primarily.
It was kinda late for dlc. But I know some people don’t mind that.
Whole thing was odd. “We won’t do dlc!” “Okay, we’ll do dlc!” “No wait! Not gonna!”
Wish them all the luck on the sequel tho. First was good, tho a bit checklisty, and with that solid base and more time and inspiration, it could be amazing.
I really hope the second is much more of a Hogwarts simulator. Playing as an insane wizard deviant that never slept or ate and murdered everything within a 50km radius of Hogwarts was fun in short bursts, but I'm not particularly interested in doing it again.
Good lord, WB are in a mess.
Cool I might play this now. Was holding out after the initial announcement / leak.
Warner Bros Discovery seem to be doing everything in their power to cause the company to tank.
Multiversus and Hogwarts Legacy were a license to print money, and both are having support pulled early. Meanwhile, Kill The Justice League failed to capture an audience, even with the hype of Kevin Conroy's appearance in it, and they kept releasing more content for it.
Both Batgirl and The Flash were gateway films to DC's new movie-verse, with The Flash having more and more controversy due to it's volatile marquee star... and they cancel Batgirl.
They are pretty much selling Looney Tunes to Ketchup Entertainment while clogging their streaming service with whatever crap they can shovel out.
Seriously, David Zaslav is destroying the Warner Brothers legacy, ostensibly to cover a debt that he saddled the company with!
@Ricky-Spanish lol buys a kids game and calls it childish haha
@cornholio005 Exactly how is that funny
@Utena-mobile grew up with harry potter jk is amazing
