Obsidian's Avowed continues to receive regular updates around six weeks since launch, with today's offering adding bug fixes, UI improvements, community-requested features and even some Xbox performance upgrades.
The specifics behind those performance upgrades haven't really been revealed, aside from the fact that they occur in "larger cities" and they target both the Beauty and Balanced graphics modes.
You can check out all the patch notes down below, and we're keen to hear what you think about the game so far in the poll at the bottom of the page too. In our Avowed review here at Pure Xbox, we described the game as featuring a "very moreish, highly replayable campaign that we will 100% be running multiple times over the coming months".
Here are the full patch notes for Avowed update 1.31 on Xbox and PC:
Community Requested Features
- Added 'high contrast' support for several UI screens.
- Added Native Anti-Aliasing option for FSR.
Quests
- The quest "Our Dreams Divide Us Still" will now correctly advance at the end of combat for affected players. This includes a retroactive fix for players who load a save made post combat.
- Turning the winch to save Solace Keep will no longer fail to save Solace Keep in rare cases.
UI Fixes and Improvements
- Experience Gained notifications no longer stay visible indefinitely when the hide HUD option is toggled.
- Quest markers and items on the Compass now appear as intended if the player has selected the option "Lock Compass to North" in Settings.
- Status icons near the player's health bar will no longer be cut off if many statuses are active at once.
- Switching upscaling settings to TSR will no longer unnecessarily apply the Screen Percentage value.
- The setting to Hide XP Notifications now behaves as expected.
- When using the quest tracking option to not track the next quest, Quest beacons will no longer point to completed quest objectives, when a quest is complete.
Bug Fixes
- Addressed a rare instance where enemies could disappear from the map.
- Consumed items no longer reappear in the player's inventory under certain conditions.
- Orlan hair now renders correctly on higher quality settings.
- Pentiment achievement no longer requires the completion of a side quest in Emerald Stair that is only available based on certain main quest decisions.
- The player will no longer end up in a broken state that prevents them from receiving the achievement "Cooking by the Book".
- The recipe for Crafting Adra from Adra Shards no longer disappears when the player upgrades Scavenger ability.
Performance Improvements
- Improved performance on Beauty and Balanced modes on Xbox when in larger cities.

I finished it a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the game (9/10 from me) Unless they add NG+ though I have little reason to return to it.
Still playing Witcher 3. This and Indiana are next. Glad they are continuing to improve it.
I’m really enjoying this game.
@Nightcrawler71 how many hours? Tryna get a rough estimate
@Cherip-the-Ripper I finished it a few days ago, doing all exploration, side quests, etc. and came out just under 90 hours. If you read the lore lying around, if you explore every nook and cranny, if you talk to people, it's pretty meaty. I think you can breeze through the story in under 40 hours easily if you're not really interested in the other stuff.
For what it's worth I think it's the most interesting, complex end game choices Obsidian has ever done (I haven't played Deadfire yet), including New Vegas which I loved. Many small things that are unmarked will impact the way the game plays out. All but one of the companions were pretty great too imo. Their banter in camp and out in the world really carried the minute to minute gameplay for me. I loved what they did with the combat, exploration, and main narrative choices. I've been thinking about it a lot for the last several days since finishing. Compared to the Outer Worlds, which I thought was pretty good, I realized I can't remember what happens in that game at all, and I can tell Avowed is going to stick with me.
Solid 9/10 for me. I'm maybe a little over halfway at this point.
Good game, but adds to the fact you don't buy/play a game on release anymore. Games are incomplete and bugged to f..k on release as we all know now.
This games fizzes on cutscenes and certain areas. I play on series x, hate to think what it's like on series s
I finished the game in late February and thought it was a 9/10. I enjoyed the 56 hours spent in the world, and I could have stretched it to 60 hours if KCD2 hadn't also been competing for my time (I'm still working on that time sink!).
Too late I finished it yesterday and for me it's a good 8/10, fun exploration good combat and good story, great graphics, great artistic direction.
@Blurd I'm playing on series S, no bug issues so far. Most of my play time was last weekend so maybe already benefitted from some patches. I'm about 20 hours in and moved on to the second area after finishing with Paradys (playing slowly, I guess)
I enjoy the game quite a bit so far, solid 8, maybe 9 from my time in it
Wow. I was wondering what the heck was going on with the compass. That explains that.
Altho I feel the game is an 8, I’m sure having fun with it. It just feels a little padded. Maybe my fault for trying to do everything.
@RentedPanda that’s how long it took me too, about 20 hours per area so far (partway into 3rd area now)
@darylb24 how did you finish so fast? Did you do all the side quests? I’m at 48 hours and am possibly half through the 3rd area. I’d like to speed up, but I want to do all the stuff! Maybe I spend too much time looking for unneeded loot.
They decided not to include Japanese and Korean just before the release, and secretly said they would add them in an update a month later. There were no guarantees for those who bought the Early Access rights.
And a month later, no further news.
@Cherip-the-Ripper I think it was around 80 hours. It can be completed quicker, but I also did most side quests, and just generally took my time. The game is a lot of fun.
I just started the Witcher 3 for the first time so I won't be playing this game for a good while!
@jesse_dylan I'm glad it's not just me
@RentedPanda All these people being like "I finished the game in 19 hours" like... ok...???
I'm not even reading all the lore. I started skipping it, because I was taking long enough just doing side quests and exploring for treasure!
My personal review
Avowed - (9/10, Excellent)
Avowed is one of the best RPGs in recent memory, delivering a deeply immersive experience that excels in nearly every aspect. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the game features stunning visuals that bring its rich fantasy world to life. The gameplay mechanics are extremely solid, making combat and exploration feel both engaging and rewarding.
What truly sets Avowed apart for me personally, is its exceptional character development. Companions are not just side characters but fully realized individuals with unique backstories and personalities. The game strengthens these connections through well-crafted side missions that further develop their arcs, making interactions at camp and during missions feel meaningful. Obsidian has really developed a knack for giving us companions that go deeper than surface level co-op bots.
The story, while not groundbreaking, evolves based on your decisions, ensuring a level of agency that keeps the experience engaging. With its beautiful world, well-written characters, and strong RPG mechanics, Avowed is an outstanding entry in Obsidian’s lineup—an absolute must-play for anyone who appreciates Obsidians unique blend of the RPG genre.
@FarmDog08 the game is so good and it gets even better 😋
Just 3 more months of fixes and I will be ready to dive into this bad boy. Still avoiding reviews and spoilers, can't wait to play it! But I mean I guess I am waiting 😭
@AverageJoseph thanks for the detailed response!!
I already loved The Outer Worlds so I'm sure I'll dig this, just a tad bit too meaty for me at the moment.
Very much lacking the time to play.
