![Xbox Dominated The US Gaming Charts In Indiana Jones' Launch Week](https://images.purexbox.com/98ed4fb25d2d8/xbox-dominated-the-us-gaming-charts-in-indiana-jones-launch-week.900x.jpg)
If you've been wondering how well Indiana Jones performed following its launch earlier this month, we've got good news! It's been revealed that the game was second for US dollar sales for the week ending December 14th.
This is according to Circana (NPD) analyst Mat Piscatella, who revealed that Indiana Jones only trailed another Xbox title in the form of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as the best-selling video game (for dollar sales) of that week.
There are a couple of particularly interesting things about this. The first is that Indiana Jones is an Xbox Game Pass title across console and PC, and yet still managed to come second in the charts just a few days after launch.
The other is that the sales figure doesn't take the early access release on December 6th into account, which means everyone who paid for the Premium version isn't represented in these figures. There's no way of knowing right now, but we're assuming Indy might have finished in first place if all of its launches had taken place in the same week.
It doesn't really matter - the main takeaway is that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle got off to an impressive start in the US a couple of weeks ago, and we're intrigued to see the final results for the entire month in the near future.

Given that there rumors of more Indiana Jones game coming. This may end up being the hit the Xbox and Microsoft needs at the moment.
Two big First Party AAA hitters by Microsoft in the space of less than Two months apart, at the same time the other game console manufacturers are currently struggling to get out more than one AAA First Party game a year.
Interesting. I’m currently playing it on gamepass, and the only reason I haven’t bought a physical copy for series X now is that I would prefer to have that for my PS5.
That said, if I see a physical disc copy on discount for series X, I’ll happily snag it for the collection!
Very nice to see. Xbox needed this. Hopefully this gives people more confidence in the Xbox brand and congratulations to MachineGames, they did a great job on this game. Well deserved, even if it is just a week of sales.
So sad to see that every single time the brand is getting momentum (with 2 great AAA releases) they fumble it somehow with baffling statements like wanting to ‘redefine’ what means to be an Xbox fan…
Someday I'll watch the.movies and maybe I'll be interested. 😂

Great to see and very well deserved for Indy and MacineGames.
The upcoming PS5 release next year will no doubt add further success to the game too. Can we please have more Indiana Jones games 😉.
@Sol4ris I have to admit, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how good this game is. I’ve enjoyed this game more than Crystal Skull and Dial of Destiny combined, that’s for sure.
@Lup just stick with the first three movies and you'll be fine.
@dskatter
It's my no 2 game this year with only Hellblade 2 beating it to the top. And that's probably because the Hellblade franchise has a special place in my gaming heart 😁.
Both very good games well deserved!
It’s almost like being a great game can mean making great sales. 🤔
The game has been not just the game of the year, but the surprise of the year. I didn't expect it to be so good. It's an extremely wise combination of traditional and modern gameplay elements, with the best of each and untypically rewarding, without resorting to easy stimuli.
Black Ops 6 is one of the best Call of Duty games ever, so can't complain about its success either.
Been playing it on Game Pass, but I'll probably pick up a Steam version at some point.
Glad it was a big success - it's well-deserved.
It got really solid reviews, so that isn't a massive surprise.
@IOI I mean you say that citing their two examples which have very much done that though.
Call of Duty is Xbox first party post ABK aquistion. It's a game they now wholly own and completely footed the bill for (Microsoft at least as the parent company), and it's also a game that's available everywhere. If you're a fan of COD you don't have to play the game on your Xbox despite it being first party. I mean specifically with what you're quoting (which was said to shareholders, not gamers so it's more business speak than anything) is describing the idea that Xbox's success is no longer tied to the success of console hardware and the pool of available gamers there. I don't think this means they'll get rid of console hardware, but Microsoft is very vocally saying that they want to reach MORE gamers than those who own an Xbox (which is the difference between like 60 to 100 million and 3 billion). Satya even said that ABK accelerated those plans and that it's been going well for them... and yeah, COD feeds into exactly that narrative. Xbox as a gaming company is redefining what success means from years past and what it means to benefit as an Xbox fan (with it no longer being the privelege to buy XYZ game but rather a day one game pass drop or the ability to play owned games across platforms or whatever Xbox hardware/ecosystem feature but no longer exclusives).
Indiana Jones isn't on Playstation 5 yet, but PC is very much a separate gaming platform for the Xbox console and on top of that Steam is a separate storefront. Ever since Microsoft introduced Xbox Play Anywhere and first party same day PC, there were people that cried Xbox no longer had any exclusives. Indiana Jones is in fact the first single player first party title to feature Xbox cloud save capability on Steam and not just the Microsoft Store/Xbox PC App. Indiana Jones is yet another game that continues to show Xbox is, and in many ways already have, redefined how the brand approaches gaming.
I mean, you're more than valid in disliking where Xbox is headed, but it's crazy to me that you're using two games are prime examples of why they are headed in this direction and the success of doing so. I me a heck, this is the data Microsoft would present to shareholders for why their current strategy is working. As even the console market leaders face flat hardware, and Xbox sees decline, Xbox also is completely dominating with software sales ACROSS multiple platforms and storefronts.
@somnambulance I mean we do also have to acknowledge the existing brand power behind both games. COD is THE gaming franchise and Indiana Jones is a global entertainment sensation. Not to say the games aren't good or suggest that doesn't play a big world, but just to also acknowledge JUST making a good game doesn't always lead to this level of success. In fact the gaming industry is probably one of the most cutthroat.
Not sure why the steam player count for Indy was so low. WTF does the pc so-called ‘master race’ want? I think Indy looks phenomenal (waiting to play until bugs and patches are sorted out), and it reviewed quite well. Is it because it’s not a twitch shooter they just turn their noses up at it?
I'm not sure what the success of this multiplat game will do for Xbox. I don't think anyone is going to buy an Xbox to play a game coming to PlayStation shortly.
It will help Satya and the shareholders.
@Rog-X That's what happens when you spend over $70 billion on publishers. It has nothing to do with xbox's talent (or lack thereof)
@Sol4ris hellblade 2 is a great game
Look forward to the monthly and yearly positions of Indy because I have a feeling it paints a completely different picture.
@WildConcept6 Making good games with a classic IP is literally Nintendo’s entire strategy and it’s working wonderfully for them. In fact, they continue to make new IP like Splatoon that do the trick. Honestly, Xbox has the IP. If they utilize it properly, they’ve certainly got the ability to rebound out of third place.
Regarding Indiana Jones and Steam player counts, and purely personally speaking, I’m not sure why I’d ever buy a game on steam if I could get the play anywhere version from the Xbox store. I get every Atlus and Sega game via MS now for that reason - and I pretty much buy all of them as I’m something of a fan. Steam hasn’t given me many reasons to be loyal to them beyond an annual sale of decreasing annual value. And ever since I traded off my Steamdeck for a ROG Ally that spends half its time playing game pass games, steams relevance in my life continues to dwindle despite my 300 or so game backlog.
@swedetrap On the flip side Steam is the only platform for me on PC. It is the only place you get proper support on games with dev interaction via the forums.
Only platform with proper VR support.
Only platform outside of GOG that provides good sales.
Only platform that supports native modding via stems workshop.
Only platform with no questions asked refunds.
There are countless other reasons I can list. But if you want you PC to be nothing more than essentially a console, with a smaller library, I can see why the Microsoft store would be appealing.
@InterceptorAlpha All good points but my primary concern is really to be able to play between console, handheld and cloud without having to make multiple purchases. I’ve never been into mods much and I VR on Meta Quest 3 because my old Vive was always such a pain to set up.
As for sales, yeah, that’s always a good point but I find that I never end up playing 90% of what I bought on Steam sales anyway - I’m not sure why. Those sales lead to a lot of impulse buys for me that never really pan out. YMMV obviously.
Be happy enjoy the moment.
This US sales data really should be publicly available. 😡
Great to see this game doing well and also astrobot holding in there!
I have dived into both CoD and Indy this holiday season. I have played a few hours in each. Both seem to be good quality games so far. I shunned CoD a lot since Ghosts because of quality but this one seems much better. As for Indy I had trepidations about it being a FP game but all is forgotten now that I am playing it.
Hopefully this put all the MS studios on track for future releases. There are a lot of MS studios now, consistently putting out games that rate 80+ will be a key to future success. If they can put out an 80+ game 3-4 times a year that will build the XB brand a lot. Then bring out great hardware next generation and hopefully XB will gain some additional momentum.
@XboxNumber1 Xbox is a plastic box and always will be. They can reuse the name for their publishing arm, that will always be Microsoft game studios. If you want to fall for the rebranding nonsense that's your prerogative.
