Tango Gameworks has announced today that the Xbox (and PC) exclusive Hi-Fi RUSH has officially surpassed three million players! The news was revealed in a post on social media earlier this afternoon:
Here's a quick look at the confirmation:
This means that Hi-Fi RUSH has received an extra one million players since the previous announcement of two million back in March. Since then, it's added a huge free update and even won a "Best Original IP" award!
It goes without saying that we're huge fans of Hi-Fi RUSH here at Pure Xbox, awarding it an "Excellent" 9/10 score when it shadow dropped on Xbox Game Pass back in January. If you haven't played it yet, it's definitely worth a download!
Are you one of the three million? Let us know down in the comments section below.

Kind of crazy to think that it has a similar player count to Metroid Dread.
(I know sales compared to people playing a gamepass game is not apples to apples. It still impressive for a new IP in a rhythm genre)
I was one of those players, if it counts playing for 5 minutes before realising its not my bag and deleting?
Game was excellent! Well deserved.
@Trmn8r hoping for a sequel!
@J_Mo_Money Have to imagine there will be.
This is still my game of the year so far. Absolutely loved it and really hope we get to see a sequel.
@StonyKL well, if you accept any advice try to stick to a game a little longer. I've played many great games that didn't click with me in the beginning (hi-fi rush included) but later turned out being good experiences.
3 million xbox fanboys are rocking only joking it's a great game and deserves all the praise it gets fantastic
Good for them but still players, not sales. How much sales did it get, how many actually stuck around and finished it. I want to play it I just haven't gotten around to it.
That and if it was physical I'd buy it. Even then I've been looking to hack n slashes with different ideas. Valkyrie Elysium and Atlas Fallen have done so excellently of mechanics in my eyes and the rhythm focus seems interesting besides 'whatever else' they offer or else it will be a bit too similar to No Straight Roads or other rhythm + other genre Indie games (besides the differences and besides that I almost hated NSR at first for the story premise as wasn't sure on the commentary they were going for before taking a step back a bit and appreciating it more).
10/10!! It is amazing. It is so much fun!
like a game should be.
I've been playing the extra modes on my laptop to get MS points. Such a fun game.
@Foxx_64740 Spot on! I gave up on Bloodborne on multiple attempts until I tried it again on PS5 and fell in love with it. Now one of my favourite games ever. I'll return to Hi-Fi Rush when the time is right. Sounds like enough people loved it to make it worth the perseverance!
@Moonglow Praise of players or best awards don't mean anything.
I don't deny the game is good. It deserves the praise it gets.
Look at any past games that had critic praise and sold terribly. They aren't the same metrics. Many examples of this exist out there.
3 million players is something but how many 'pressed start' played maybe an hour and gave up. It happens after all sometimes the game isn't for them after that amount of time or less or more depending on if it's for them, or they don't have time/storage space and remove it.
While sales isn't much either people can yes buy the game and never sell it it does still count.
Besides Microsoft doesn't tell us sales numbers that much anymore.
I just like to know sometimes it's interesting to see/gauges some details/possibilities. If it sold as much as Metroid Dread or others it's nice to know. Whether a niche new IP or a long running series with similar sales did well. To gauge the popularity of games like it.
As a hack n slash fan I'm interested to see how well they do. I mean same as a Bayonetta or DMC game sales I doubt it but maybe? Others to see if the genre/a sequel (or games with it's tone, artstyle, audience and so on) or more factors are likely to be seen in the future to gauge.
Besides new IPs deserve all the support they can get. And it's a different direction for Tango as well so you never know it could have done horrible and they go back to horror games or maybe something else if they were willing to go for a different audience entirely again. All possible outcomes.
