Hi-Fi RUSH remains probably the biggest Xbox surprise of the year so far, and the brand-new title from Tango Gameworks is still impressing the industry and players alike. During this week's Develop Conference in Brighton, UK, the game was handed the Best Original IP award - with the panel judging titles released in the last 12 months.
This feels like a nice win for both Tango and Microsoft. We know that that the Xbox owner has been criticised in recent years for relying too much on old, existing IP, so congrats to all involved for bringing Hi-Fi RUSH to market as a stealth launch on Xbox!

The game's director, John Johanas, seemed extremely happy to accept the award on behalf of the team:
Earlier this month, Hi-Fi RUSH received yet another substantial update - adding two brand-new game modes and more to this bona fide Xbox Game Pass hit.
Do you reckon Hi-Fi deserves this best new IP award? Let us know what you thought of the game!

Congratulations. As much as I love The Evil Within, this new IP has been an excellent addition.
Great game, well deserved!
It shows the sad state of gaming we are in, that there was no real competition in the category. But I do believe it would have easily won during stronger years too.
Hi-Fi rush was fantastic and really came out of nowhere. It's a great win for Tango gameworks and especially for xbox, who needed a win. I play on all consoles (and PC) but all companies doing well can only be a good thing, and will force the others to trynew things to keep up
While i'm not as fussed with it as others i am happy a game like this exists and is getting acclaim.
Best IP of the last 12 months. I'd say it's one of the best games I've ever played in the last 12 years it's that good!
Well done Tango, well deserved.
Hi-Fi Rush 2 is much needed.
Congrats to Tango Gameworks! every game they've made so far I've enjoyed.
@Banjo- I'm glad there's someone else who love The Evil Within as well. It gets a lot of hate but ever since 2014 I always thought it was great and provided a good challenge.
@Solidchief @Banjo Evil Within was brilliant. Classic survival horror cant beat it. I wasnt as enamoured with the sequel as much but cant put my finger on why.
Im only about 2 hours in to Hi Fi Rush and I already have an urge to go back and play Jet Set Radio.
@Solidchief Yep, the first one is a handcrafted masterpiece, technically a bit rough. I appreciated it even more during my second playthrough.
@Jaxx420 Same I much prefer the first game. The Evil Within 2 went with more of a open world approach which was ok but I prefer the level design of the first.
@Solidchief @Jaxx420 The second one is technically more polished but it's not the handcrafted masterpiece the first one is. During my second playthrough of the first game on Series X, the frame rate was smoother and I also appreciated more that every single piece of the game was handcrafted masterfully, with even the items placed in creative yet logical ways. It's scary yet satisfying to explore, very Resident Evil/Shinji Mikami. The second was not made by Shinji Mikami but as a semi open-world game, it's one of the most fun I've played.
@Banjo- it may be the semi open world style was a bit jarring for me. Used to classic survival horror being all about cramped rooms and narrow corridors nowhere to run and all that jazz.
Well deserved. I hope we see more of Chai and co. felt like a saturday morning cartoon in a game. Really enjoyed it.
Hopefully a sequel can iron out some of the slightly more irritating QTE's and other insta-fail elements which stopped it being top tier in my book.
@HairyRope Xbox is not just a console any more, we're almost NEVER going to get console only exclusives as Microsoft is committed to publishing on PC and cloud. But WHY does that matter to you?
@HairyRope term used these days is "console exclusive" for that reason.
@HairyRope I agree they’ve been a bit slack in the first year and a half about putting our great first party games, but that’s got nothing to do with console exclusivity.
