There's reportedly been some confusion about the platforms Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming to later this year and whether or not this upcoming release includes Xbox's previous generation hardware.
According to IGN, the official Xbox game page for the new entry in Activision's first-person shooter series didn't originally reference "Xbox One" as a platform, causing some panic and even speculation online. Now, in an update, the page displays this platform underneath Xbox Series X and S.
IGN has also independently confirmed MW3 is coming to both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. So, if you were hoping to pick up the new game for older hardware, there's no need to worry.
Earlier this week, Activision released a new trailer featuring a first look at some in-game footage. The official "worldwide reveal" though is scheduled to take place on 17th August, so there should be a lot more details and specifics shared ahead of the 10th November launch.
Which Xbox platform will you be playing this upcoming release on? Comment below.

And yet playstation are apparently releasing a pro next year ..when this is still happening
Wow. What a weird generation we've had, the last gen has cast a massive shadow over it. Great for people still on those old consoles, if you can accept the lesser performance, which I guess if you're still there, then you can.
On the acquisition front....CMA is expected to release their opinion on Monday. It is not the final decision but we should get an idea on what they desire for a resolution. Like if a divestiture will be necessary.
so why aren't older cod games on game pass years ago? ms does not have to own activision to have cod on gp.
@rustyduck Activition had refused to have their content on any subscription service PERIOD. That why this purchase is so important. It forces Activition to bring their game to subscriptions services and Cloud platforms that they didn’t allow.
i see, i didn't know activision was like that.
Surprised about this to be honest. I was happy MW2 was released on Xbox One because that’s the only console I have but didn’t expect them to release MW3 for it also. I’d say this will be the last COD for Xbox One.
Still no need to upgrade 😆
It makes sense if all the progression from MW2 carries over. I'd expect next years entry to finally make the switch to current gen only
Call of Duty is going to be releasing on Switch (or Switch 2) for the next 10 years. So there is no reason why Xbox One and PS4 will be left out at least in the near future when they still have substantial install bases.
In fact, most PC gamers have a PC somewhere around the Xbox Series S with many playing on hardware similar to an Xbox One. So having a game scale from Switch all the way up to high end PCs is the way to go.
It just means the developers have to put in a lot more work. But it is very doable. And also, is already being done through PC.
And still no Switch version either, despite 100M+ sales. "Grow the install base first", my ass.
@BrilliantBill That's good to hear as to be honest all the videos I see on YouTube seem to show the newer Xbox One CODs to have a frame that is often sat in the 40's. An account from someone who plays them saying that the games perform well enough to cross play with better performing versions is great.
@BrilliantBill This should've happened ages ago, years before the buyout.
