I'm both skeptical and excited for this one. Fallout 3 was okay and New Vegas was good, but neither were anywhere close to achieving the greatness of Oblivion and Skyrim. Fallout has always had many issues but in 4 they seem to be cracking down hard on them, like the evil VATS system. The story and gunplay look phenomenal, but Fallout has always had some weird or bad decision that really takes away what should be a great game. My main concern is if the terrible karma system is making a comeback or not, I cannot stand how that has been handled!
What are your thoughts? Do you have any doubts about it, or has Bethesda blown you away with what they've shown?
I cannot describe in cohesive, non-slathering human language how badly I want this game and how torturous the wait now seems to be. I've been playing A LOT of the past games recently and just NEED a new wasteland to explore. I was even tempted to play Skyrim. because you are right in that it was just so much better in a lot of ways - but in the Fallout universe. I've been REALLY careful to avoid much Fallout 4 related so since it's big announcement, I have not seen a lot but I'm optimistic...
VATS - I can't deny that I've always been a bit of a VATS-hog but that, I have recently discovered was just due to how awful the basic gameplay was. So if they have made the vast improvements to that as they've implied - I'll be happy.
I'd also much rather see Karma dealt with on a less binary scale. My characters pretty much always end up being mostly evil, simply due to looting (okay, "stealing") and through dialogue choices. I much preferred New Vegas' faction system than a standard karma scale.
Overall, I can't wait to see what they have done with it. And build my "Awesomeville" and "Lucieland" settlements. They can keep the Power Armour. I was never that keen on it.
I am a mahoosive Fallout fan, so I should put that out there before I go on. My personal list goes Skyrim - Fallout 3 - Oblivion.
On topic I am hugely excited, I'm wearing a huge happy head, so much so I've booked Wed, Thurs, Friday off work that week to devote the time to it that it needs. I am so ready to get lost in the Wasteland again.
"Justin Bieber looks like a lesbian i'd like to ****..." - Megakillscreen, out of frickin' nowhere!
@Red620Ti: This is gonna make me sound really shallow but none of my protags have ever suited it. They just looked stupid. Too big, too bulky. Style is very important when roaming the wastes!!
I picked up Fallout 3 GOTY in a sale for about £20 a few years ago, not knowing what to expect (and largely based on the box art!). According to TrueAchievements, it's #3 in my top scoring games, so I must've liked playing LOL I did check my missing achievements recently and they are mostly karma related. Hmm. I was tempted to pick up a copy if I can get it cheap enough (I must've traded my copy). I did play Fallout Vegas, which was good but I seem to remember not as good as 3.
Anyway... onto Fallout 4. I cant say it's top of my wish list, but it has made an appearance after I saw some gameplay trailers. Hoping for good reviews and maybe a surprise on Xmas day (if you are reading this, Wifey!).

@lucieisawesome: the gunplay in 3 was borderline terrible, and I could NEVER find ammo for anything ever, so I always had to use melee weapons. I wish I could count how many times my 95% chance shot in VATS has missed in New Vegas >.>. I also hated how accidentally pressing A on a piece of paper that's considered stealing and that everyone in the world magically knows and will murder you dead for that paper
In the grand order of things, I'd put Skyrim first (Because dragons and much better graphics, levelling up/other gameplay aspects. And dragons.) then Fallout New Vegas over Fallout 3 (have still yet to actually finish Oblivion). As much as I adore Fallout 3 for it's story, New Vegas is just so much more fun. The world is much brighter, the companions are much better and there was just so much MORE to it.
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: I have found, in recent playthroughs, that I have been leaning much more towards melee weapons for that very reason as, unless my character has super-high agility and/or luck, I always seem to miss shots that should be easy in VATS as well. Melee as it turns out, is a lot of fun and you can get some pretty strong weapons early on. LUCIE SMASH!!
As for the Fallout 3 ammo thing, I agree. Unless you play with a laser/plasma rifle or an assault rifle, all other ammo seemed pretty scarce. I've recently tried out a run trying to be a sniper but sniper rifle bullets are exceptionally rare, so it's kind of fallen apart.
And ahhh yes, disarm a nuclear bomb, saving the town - Yay! Then two minutes, accidentally pick up a fork that doesn't belong to you - public enemy no 1! - Silly, silly game logic. haha
I thought the gunplay was ok, you were just expected to aim lol. VATS was ok but not meant ti be overused. Once you picked up the rifle from the museum, it was pretty much plain sailing for a lot of the game. Never really found any ammo issues either (it was easy to purchase) but I'm not a sprayer. It is meant to be a world that's suffered a major upheaval so you shouldn't be expecting to trip over ammo boxes every two seconds. Between the boat, the lady in town and the vampire seller no real issues.
@Captain_Chao5: haha, that's exactly why I bought Fallout 3 for: the box art
@lucieisawesome: aww, the power armor was super awesome! Looks especially cool in 4, looks like you become a Spartan from Halo! Anyway, the melee is really fun, especially with the crazy gore Fallout has (that bloody mess perk though ) but sometimes I just wanted to shoot some stuff, but the game never allowed me too. I dumped all my skill points into melee and computers and such, so even if I found ammo I was so bad at guns that it was pointless anyway.
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: I'm hoping that the ability to customize it makes me like it but aside from perhaps maybe the Outcasts Power Armour in F3, I just never really liked it and ended up collecting the various types of combat armour... We'll see what Fallout 4 has to offer.
Ah, how can we forget the modding we will soon be able to do??? That's pretty darned awesome, I can't wait to see what we will be able to do. Hopefully other games follow suit
Oh uhh random off topic. Does anyone know how to go back to the mobile version of this site? I went to the desktop version but I can't figure out how to get back to mobile :0
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: Oh, yes, modding! I am cautiously excited about this... I've got/play both Fallout 3/NV on Steam but have never quite been able to get the modding tools for PC to work. I haven't really modded a game since waaaaaay back when the first Sims game came out but I've watched a lot of Fallout and Skyrim mod vids on YT and am very impressed with what people come up with so will more than likely be testing it out with Fallout 4.
I'll get this but not straight away... still less than half-way through Syndicate, not finished Arkham Knight or Mad Max and the New Tomb Raider is imminent and Black Ops 3 is out on Friday. I did enjoy Fallout 3 but not half as much as Oblivion which was my favourite Bethesda RPG.
+1 to that @Stylon. I was blitzing through Syndicate at the weekend, so I've stopped and taken some time to collect posters, chests, glitches, etc and take in the wonderful scenery. I too have some unfinished business on Arkham Knight and lots to do on Witcher 3. Tomb Raider is on my wishlist as it Fallout 4, although I'm getting the urge to pre-order fallout 4 now to get fallout 3. I've traded my copy and want to get the last few achievements to 100% it. Damn those achievement tracking sites! LOL

A) I don't really care for the Fallout series. I enjoyed a bit of Fallout: New Vegas, but I'm not really a fan of the gameplay or genre. Honestly, I got most of my entertainment of Fallout: New Vegas watching my brothers play it, as I found the various characters to be the most enjoyable aspect.
My younger brother is a whole different story. He's threatened to murder anyone who tries to get him Fallout 4 for Christmas as he has no intention of waiting that long. He got it pre-ordered as soon as he could, and has actually saved up money for it.
I fear it'll be a second coming of Saints Row IV, a game he enjoyed so much he barely moved out of his seat for three days, by which time he had completed the game. When he finally stopped playing, his body was actually imprinted into the sofa.
Q) Do you have any doubts about it, or has Bethesda blown you away with what they've shown?
A) I watched all of the E3 conferences this year and my thoughts on Fallout 4 were, "Neat, but nothing that really appeals to me." As noted before, the best part of any of the Fallout games to me were the characters, and I particularly liked your cast of companions in New Vegas. I've not seen any videos that have touched upon what companions you can get in the game.
I don't have doubts that my brother will enjoy it though, I think that's a given. What will be interesting to see is how much he likes it compared to Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
I don't get the love for Bethesda games. The games are buggy messes and don't even play that great. With that said, I enjoyed the heck out of Morrowind back on the OG XBox.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.

@lucieisawesome: steam puts the construction stuff in the wrong folder. There are some posts on the Internet thingie about getting it to work. It's not exactly instinctive.
