It sure has been a week, huh? Thanks to Microsoft's ongoing FTC court case, loads of upcoming Xbox plans were leaked online this week - even if they are severely outdated at this stage. In and amongst those leaks was quite a detailed roadmap of Bethesda's upcoming schedule, and while supposed Fallout and The Elder Scrolls remasters will no-doubt grab lots of attention, it's the mention of one Arkane series that has me most excited - Dishonored.
Dishonored 2 is seven years old this year, and while I personally preferred the franchise's first outing, the sequel was fantastic too and I've wanted another one ever since wrapping up my time in the fictional lands of Karnaca. Both of the first two Dishonored games are high-mark entries in the immersive sim genre, and they both show off Arkane at its absolute best.
And while Dishonored 3 hasn't been officially revealed just yet, it was named on this Bethesda roadmap, which at least gives me hope that it's still in the works over there at Arkane. It was right down at the bottom of the roadmap though, so even if it's still being worked on, we shouldn't realistically expect it to launch anytime soon.
Having said that, I can't imagine that the release and reception of Arkane's latest title, Redfall, will have put the brakes on something like another Dishonored game. We're not privy to any insider information here, but Redfall didn't exactly go to plan, did it? This studio is known for its deep & immersive single player offerings and the sooner it gets back to that ethos, the better.

Another thing worth mentioning is that, really, Arkane just has to follow its own blueprint with Dishonored 3, right? It's been so long since 2 that similar concepts on brand-new tech will be impressive enough for many, especially as a follow-up to Redfall. We have faith that Arkane would bring plenty of cool new concepts to the table though, especially with this franchise in particular.
Anyway, as you can probably tell I'm very, very happy that Dishonored 3 has been referenced in some fashion - I just hope that plans for the franchise's big return are still full-speed-ahead in 2023. Bethesda's roadmap is looking rather tasty indeed, and if the team is planning a Dishonored-flavoured dessert to finish this roadmap off, count me well-and-truly in.
What do you want from a potential Dishonored 3? Leave your thoughts down below.

Most anticipated? Are you on something? Oblivion remastered and fallout 3 remaster, and your talking about dishonored 3 lol what a joke.
Dishonored 3 would be cool, but wonder what it will even be like. Most of Arkane left due to the mishandling of the studio during Redfall.
@Jonnybekeww meh... I would agree with Ben here. Got tired already of all those remasters and remakes. I've completed most of modern remasters not even once (original games, not remasters) and had great time, but would really prefer a new title/IP.
@Rmg0731 that's another Arkane studio. Arkane Lyon made dishonored great, and Arkane Austin suddenly made Redfall.
Agreed. Dishonored is one of the best series around.
@Jonnybekeww are you really making fun of the author for being more excited at the prospect of a new game compared to remasters of super old games? Really? Shake my head.
Never played redfall but i just want to know what ID are up to. They are one of my favourite developers
Not every game needs to be open world.
That said, Dishonored 3 NEEDS to be open world!
Hopefully one much better than Redfall, though.
As someone or the only one that liked Redfall. But seen all the issues with it in my 30 hour play session with it. I really don’t want them to spend to much time on it. But i would like to see it get even further updates and fixes, of course the 60fps. Then drop the DLC and move on. I’m a sucker for looter games and while i know this one dropped the ball hardcore, i still had some fun with it and with some more polish i do believe it could be a strong 7/10 game and then just move on and it will live on Gamepass as a average looter co-op shooter. Good to see Arkane moving back to what they are known and loved for.
No other gaming memory has stuck with me more than with Dishonored 2.
Hopefully the rumors are right and arkane gets this one right. If the game is halg as good as the second im buying it firstvday
@HonestHick
I had a good go at Redfall in the end but it was off for me movement and aiming wise and I had tried lots of controller adjustments.
Like when I play Starfield for example it just feels right overall from a controller movement point of view and they are both 30fps so something with Redfall was off for me.
Really hope Arkane bounce back with their next game.
Wonder how much money they lose in investment of the game when they don’t really sell.
I know it game pass, but it ended up being a waste of resource and time really.
@OldGamer999 i agree Redfall movement and aiming felt bad. I hear there has been improvement’s done in the big patch they had a few months back. Plus i am sure 60fps will give it a little better feel. But the game for sure tanked on the fundamentals. I like the art, story wasn’t awful. But overall some of the worse artificial intelligence on enemies I’ve ever seen. The list goes on and on for what needs improved. But it sounds like more fixes and updates are coming and i will try it again sometime in 2024 I think just to compare to how it played at launch. Hopefully i can find someone to play co-op with to get the achievements i am missing.
I mean, I recently finally played Death of the Outsider.
And I've played Dishonored 1 and 2.
I've played Deathloop as well and it made a lot of sense, being set in the same universe as well.
Redfall did indeed do badly to the point they might just go back to a trusted IP.
But I personally don't see how D3 would work story wise, just give me another spin-off game like Deathloop set in the same world and I'm happy.
Could do sth with Pandyssia though, given that it's uncharted territory. But I don't see how they can do a classic linear Dishonored in that vast of a landmass. Unless it's gonna be one of those next gen open world outings after multiple linear games in the series like we have seen before (gow & gow).
@clvr bro was so discontented he didn't even bother with the acronym 😂
@DoctorJohnDisco indeed, Dishonored has a great level design with lots of paths between any point A and B, it sells very well an illusion of freedom in what is actually a linear game.
But how do you take Dishonored 3 to the next level? How do you differentiate it enough from Dishonored 1 & 2? And can you immagine how great it would be to explore Dunwall, Karnaca or a completelly new city with liberty to go any where, taking missions in any order?
I really hope Dishonored 3 is true, I thought they were done with that franchise after Death of the Outsider.
It would be strange to have such a loved and respected IP as dishonoured and not make another one. I really hope they do. I found the last games so inventive and im hoping they can do it again 👍
@Jonnybekeww Many of us are more excited by the prospect of a new game, rather than a game we've played before in new clothes - no joke.
Not that fallout 3 and oblivion are not worth a remaster. But a new game feels more desirable than yet another remaster..
I don't care for the genre name of "immersive sim". That doesn't tell me anything (first person shooter? Got it.) or give me a reference to go lookup (Metroidvania? Got it).
"Immersive Sim" to me sounds just like a generic bullet point for any VR game.
@HonestHick
I’m never sure with games that get off to a really bad start, if the developers should move on to their next new game and focus every resource on that new game and attempt to release a AAA star game.
If they do that then all would be forgiven and sales etc of that game would be great and the developers back in the top lime light again.
@OldGamer999 yeah it’s a case by case thing i would assume. Take a look at Sea of Thieves, they knew they had something good there and just needed more time and updates. Turned into one of the better live service games on the market, but at launch it looked to be dead. Cyberpunk 2077, they continued to improve the game and now some are saying with the 2.0 updated and dlc, it’s one of the best RPG’s on the market today. Those are cases where it worked out best to not move on and say we quit on this title. But there are loads of other cases where i am sure it don’t make sense to focus on the game and waste time and money. I think Redfall isn’t big enough to have to much time and money spent. But i do think it would be smart to get it up to a good standard of play and then just let it be on GP for those that want to shoot some Vampires but not have a stellar mainstream game. I could be wrong. But i see them fixing it, but not going into the code with a fine tooth brush and really re polishing every detail and changing it night and day. Hope I’m wrong, time will tell. 😊
On a side note i'd prefer if the remasters were for Morrowind and New Vegas. Morrowind because it needs it more and New Vegas for being the better game(though i love Fallout 3 too).
@Syndrome Morrowind needs a full on remake. Love the game, but it is not so palatable in 2023. It’s a 10/10 that aged like milk and deserves a second life.
I would honestly like it if New Vegas and 3 merged into one game as a giant remaster. Modders can do it and so can Bethesda.
All that said, yes I hope Arkane gets another chance to thrive. I wonder, honestly, what actually happened in Redfall’s development and what the teams thought of it. It would be a gaming documentary I’d watch.
@Jonnybekeww for remasters lmao...could understand maybe if they where remakes
@HonestHick
I think with Redfall even though I really like Arkane, dishonoured etc, that I would rather them give all resource to producing a stellar game like we know they can and just drop Redfall. Like you said it’s not a big game really in the grand scheme of things overall.
It was a travesty for me with Redfall as Arkane have made some great games for me that I really enjoyed and I was hyped for Redfall as I like the vampire side of things and a good exploration FPS.
I was so annoyed and frustrated when it released as I so wanted it to be up there with best of games and I will still never truly understand how the game ended up in the release condition it did.
I don’t know how companies just let that sought of thing happen, I would dissatisfied, disappointed and maybe ashamed to release a completion of my work in that condition.
Anyway never mind, let’s hope their next game puts Arkane back at the top.
@Jonnybekeww I’m with everyone else on this one. I can go back and play any of those games right now, I’d much rather see what they’ll do with D3.
I'm not sure what to expect from a "back to their roots" offering. Didn't something like 80% of that studio leave since dishonored 2?
I think they have to find their own identity at this point. The name on the door is the only thing they have in common with the old Arkane Studio.
I'm all for another dishonored game but I hope they arent expecting the name of the IP alone to carry the weight.
@OldGamer999 i agree, it was poorly handled and Arkane even asked to have the game cancelled i believe before MS bought the studio. So sounds like it was never in good shape to begin with. Some of the games that launch are just insane to me as well. Some are a good year or more from being complete. That shouldn’t happen and it seems like it happens all the time these days as they know they can just patch it as they go.
Pumped for the Oblivion remaster. By far my favorite Elder Scrolls game. Also pumped for Dishonored 3. Just a great series. Redfall was a mistake. Get back to making great single player games.
I was really looking forward to Redfall, the premise sounded great. I figured I'd give them some time to iron out the rough release, just started it today.......... .... Oh my goodness is it bad, really bad ...I read all about this not being a passion product but this game is still a mess in SO MANY WAYS. I have to wonder if there is any talent left, any at all.
Immersive sims are my favorite genre, and Dishonored 3 confirmation would make me incredibly hyped.
Dishonered 3 would be amazing. Also my favourite of the leaked games. But that Bethesda document was years old, pre-acquisition, and plenty might have changed. Not going to get excited until it is officially announced.
I’d love to see Dishonored 3, and would love to get a 60fps update/boost for Dishonored 2.
Maybe they could set the new game in England and call it Dishonoured.
@Tomato_Goose Yeah I would have to agree with that to be honest. I am really sick and tired of all the remakes and remasters, especially considering how great old Xbox console games tend to play on Series X anyways. That and as someone who has had a gaming PC for a long time, I never really had a need for that, so many old games can look great on modern setups.
Like when it comes to what gets me excited about the prospect of buying a new video game, it's gotta be something new these days.
@Kaloudz Me too! Loved Ghostwire:Tokyo. It's one of the greatest surprises I played on GP (after reading some mixed reviews across the board). I hope we can get the sequel soon enough.
I sure hope so, mate! But with Zenimax/Bethesda "projected" release dates, one never knows! I hope that the management at MS keep them on the right track.
I really hope this is true. The Dishonored series is one of my all time favourites. Probably in my top 5 as a series. Amazing games by any standard
