Re: All New Xbox Games Coming Out In April 2024

@Markatron84 thanks for the feedback... we've just put some code live that should at least prevent the boxes from shrinking back down (something we can control on our side). Let me know if that improves things for you, cheers!

Re: Site News: Love What We Do? Become A Pure Xbox Supporter!

@Kaloudz it's more complicated than that, but yes, Google will profile you as a user and therefore ads are personalised based on a wide range of factors — this is true of almost all online advertising.

@Balta666 more likely there just wasn't a ad to show you at that moment in time, so you got the empty box

Re: Death's Door Players Are Loving This Unique Little Feature In The Game

@everynowandben we can’t fit all the information from an article into the headline, hence people need to click and read the full article to get the full context. The headline is always a condensed version, as a summary, for the reader to decide if they want to read the full thing.

As above, clickbait is more commonly associated with deception. This isn’t what we’re doing. Every piece of media you consume is designed to encourage you past the headline, otherwise you’ll probably end up with half the story/context.

Re: Death's Door Players Are Loving This Unique Little Feature In The Game

@everynowandben best way to give feedback is via the contact form and talk to us directly.

However, on this one I think we'd simply disagree with your interpretation of clickbait. Our standpoint is that clickbait is a headline that is knowingly misleading and/or not representative of the article behind it. Just because the headline is interesting or entices you to click, isn't clickbait, unless it is misleading.

For obvious reasons we try to make our content appealing to click as we are competing against every other website, however, I don't believe we fall foul of any issues and our headlines are always accurate to the content behind them.

Re: Xbox Series X Games Appear To Be Getting New Box Designs

@NEStalgia agreed, using the console logos instead of a plain font may look better and potentially having some opacity on that white would look nice. It would be less "clear" in focus groups though I'm sure.

Personally I would vote for putting it just on the shrink wrap or having a revisable cover without all the warnings and logos

Re: Apple Can't Block Epic's Unreal Engine, Rules Judge

antdickens

@PatDavisGames yeah, there is no denying any of that. I'm a little sceptical about Epic's intentions outside of their own obvious benefits if they win this, but they have certainly done far more for the gaming industry than Apple have at this point in time. Yes, Apple have provided a huge platform but that typically favours the big hits on iOS and not the smaller guys.

Re: Apple Can't Block Epic's Unreal Engine, Rules Judge

antdickens

@Tharsman @Grot yeah, whilst I believe Epic did this because they thought it would be a big PR win and get iOS Fortnite players on their side, I'm not sure it's panning out like that.

As for developers, agreed, whilst there is uncertainty for the Unreal engine on iOS devices that could well sway project decisions away from the platform. I think it's in everyone's interest to get this resolved ASAP, but naturally that won't happen.

Re: Editor's Opinion: The Right Moves

Bizarrely I'm quite used to this kind of thing now, Nintendo always gets criticized when it does do something, and when it doesn't. For example, if they decided a similar route to ditch the Gamepad and make it optional (ala Kinect) they would have people saying that's great, and many more saying its an admission of failure.

I think Microsoft are heading in the right direction again, they need to correct all the mistakes they've made (listed above) and suck up the criticism. They've still got some work to do to get back on top, but the last gen showed us that it's possible to have a poor start but turn it around in time - PS3.

Support will come, it will take time, and a few big games, I'm thinking like GoW last gen.

Re: Competition: Xbox Reveal Bingo!

@FullbringIchigo haha, I haven't seen it on Outside Xbox... I do think all the above buzz words WILL be used though!

Oh and by the way, Pure Xbox is not owned by Eurogamer But we are part of the Gamer Network.

Re: Criterion Exit Racing Genre

antdickens

It's a shame, in many ways, but with Most Wanted I'm not sure where the series would go... it's got everything in there that they wanted to do, so how do you top it?

I can imagine working on the same series of games for 10 years is probably enough to tire many people, looking forward to what they work on next!

Re: Feature: 5 Things We Learned From The PlayStation Meeting

antdickens

It really depends if Microsoft are heading to go in a different direction, Sony seemed quite focused on games, where as Microsoft may pursue other avenues of media, PC interaction, "Digital Home" and so on.

That said, I would expect Microsoft to try and match PS4 like for like, and offer some new things as well, to try and give it an edge. It's obviously going to be head to head.

Re: Talking Point: Used Games and Durango - Seeing Sense

antdickens

It's all about timing, 5 years from now this won't be an issue as everyone will be used to digital-only purchases.

However, having grown up where trading games, loaning to friends was the norm its hard to swallow. I think if this did happen, it might have a short term impact, but would soon become a non-issue.

I wonder what affect it will have on the retailers though, who often thrive on used game sales... great talking point!
