Re: 90s Arcade Racer Changes Lanes, Heads to Xbox One as 90s Super GP

VanillaLake

I was a kid when I played Daytona USA arcade in the 90s. I'm very interested in the game so I'll pick up the Xbox One or PS4 version. I wonder if Yooka Laylee (Playtonic) won't be released for Wii U either. Even Nintendo itself has shifted their own games to NX, so not sure if we'll see more interesting Wii U games (that new Paper Mario, perhaps).

I have to say, Xbox One is probably the best console this generation. Best online, best controller (best controller in history if you have the Elite), best deals and free backwards compatibility. Rare Replay is arguably the best game compilation ever and it was the main reason I got the console, but there's much more: Master Chief Collection (Halo 1, 2, 3, 3 ODST and 4 bundle), best Killer Instinct game one could dream of (and free to start, although I'll get the Supreme Edition), plus the multiplatform games. Obviously, it lacks Wii U and PS4 exclusives, but overall it's the best, in my opinion. It should get more love, but I know it is Microsoft to blame because of Kinect original bundle, launch price, and the always online premise. It's a pity that even after having corrected these mistakes, Xbox One is not doing a lot better (total sales around half as much as PS4).

@SuperKMx Too bad it's not available on Xbox One.

Re: Rumour: Mass Effect Heading to EA Access

VanillaLake

I just realised only Mass Effect 1 is backwards compatible on Xbox One. Also, only Dead Space 1 is backwards compatible, what's wrong with EA? I would like to play at least the two first Dead Space (as the third was not so well received) and the three Mass Effect games.

Re: Review: Coffin Dodgers (Xbox One)

VanillaLake

@SuperKMx I think Transformed and Diddy Kong Racing are my favourite racing games ever. Sega and Sumo should develop a new version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing for this generation.

It's a pity that Diddy Kong Racing frame rate is low, I would love an updated version or sequel, with a different cast if necessary. Diddy is the only Nintendo character in the game, so Rare could swap him for any other Rare character (Kazooie) and change the title to Banjo-Kazooie Racing.

Re: Review: SUPERHOT (Xbox One)

VanillaLake

@KelticDevil @tylertreese KelticDevil just said he is not interested in the game and explained why, he didn't say that the game sucks or anything. In a world full of shooters, it's normal that people have their own preferences. I like the genre but I don't have time to play all of them.

I think Superhot is a better game, but the visuals remind me nevertheless of MadWorld (Wii).

Re: The BC List - Issue 3 - Joining The Jet Set

VanillaLake

I played Jet Set Radio a bit on Dreamcast at a friend's place and it was fun, but I didn't play much. Backwards compatibility is one of the best features of Xbox One. I'd love to see Super Street Fighter II HD Turbo Remix soon!

By the way, Killer Instinct Season 3 is awesome!

Re: Rumour: Microsoft to Announce New Hardware at E3 2016?

VanillaLake

@stylon Not sure about this because I don't use those features much but you can swap double tap and simple tap functions, or is it on PlayStation 4? Anyway, it could be patched, no need for a new controller.

Lots of interesting posts here. I would prefer an Xbox One upgrade honestly, because I got the Elite pack that was released late last year, and the Elite controller is the best I've ever had in my hands.

So,
1. Xbox One CPU is faster than PS4.
2. PS4 GPU is better than Xbox One.
3. PS4 RAM memory is faster than Xbox One RAM memory.
1-2

The bottleneck in Xbox One is the RAM and GPU and the bottleneck in PS4 is the CPU. Can more RAM make up for Xbox One GPU shortcomings and can that be added as an expansion pack? RAM memory is versatile so I think it could assist the GPU.

While it's true that NX and PS4 Neo are coming, how many people will upgrade from PS4 to PS4 Neo? How many people will buy NX at launch after Wii U's disappointing support from Nintendo itself? People yet to come to the eight generation are now between PS4 Neo and what Microsoft and Nintendo are going to announce, but I'm not sure that those that have a PS4 and/or an Xbox One already are willing to buy another PS4/Xbox One console after a few years, or a few months if you got the Elite pack.

Re: Microsoft Ends Xbox 360 Production

VanillaLake

I do not own a 360 but I know it is a great console with a good online service and lots of multiplatform and exclusive games. It has sold around the same units than PS3 and it is still supported, and you can play 360 games on Xbox One. All of this means that Microsoft did a great job and so I bought an Xbox One.

Re: Turok and Turok 2 Remastered Heading to Xbox One

VanillaLake

@JaxonH I have a Wii U but I expected GBA and DS games to be available on 3DS, where they belong. and if they launch SNES titles I expect them to be not new 3DS exclusives. I have a new 3DS but anyway... Also, I expected cross-buy at least between Wii U and 3DS but nope, even if they are same generation and tied, there's no cross-buy. The only retro games with higher resolution are the remasters and they are sold separately at a premium price. Nintendo has disappointed me a lot this generation, but good that you're happy with that.

You are right about PS4, a dozen of PS2 games. Some of them were almost €15, I said that was a bit too much on Push Square and some people answered it was the right price (including Push Square staff) because of trophies and upscalation. Funnily enough, Sony has dropped those crazy prices if you check them now. There are some PS2 games I'd love to play, a few of them I'd pay any price, but right now all you can find is GTA and some mediocre games that were published by Sony.

@jasper81 That's right! Goldeneye is a masterpiece. I had friends like him too. That's how I played Turok, San Francisco Rush, 1080 Snowboarding, etc. LOL

EDIT: On Xbox One I got lots of retro games, some of them remastered, for little money: Rare Replay (30 games for less than €30), Halo Master Chief Collection (4 games plus 3 ODST for just €5 more). Right now, the best value is Xbox One, and that means I get some multiplatform games on Xbox One, too.

Re: Turok and Turok 2 Remastered Heading to Xbox One

VanillaLake

@jasper81 Yes, it was crazily expensive, my parents would not buy me a game for that money! Same for Doom 64. The only shooters I was given were Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, and my father had Doom on his computer., which I liked. I played Goldeneye 007 a lot, multiplayer included. The proximity and remote mines...

Re: Megaton! Sunset Overdrive Comes to April's Games With Gold

VanillaLake

Right now I don't have much free time, but once I do, Xbox Gold will be my choice (over PlayStation Plus). Gold for Xbox One + Xbox One backwards compatibility is more and better than Plus for a PS4 owner like myself.

By the way, I don't say "Silver members" but no-Gold users. I think "Silver" was for when online features were available for free on Xbox 360...

Re: Xbox Live Spring Sale: Xbox One Opening Day Deals List

VanillaLake

@Dpishere It looks like our stories are very similar indeed. I was waiting for the Xbox One Elite and I didn't find it right away, so we started with it around the same time. Xbox One is better than I expected! And the user interface is great, the best I've ever seen on a console and definitely better than PS4's. Also, I am able to play lots of 360 games, that's great.

Re: Xbox Live Spring Sale: Xbox One Opening Day Deals List

VanillaLake

@Dpishere I bought an Xbox One just recently because of Rare Replay. I've already beaten Perfect Dark, Perfect Dark Zero and Conker's Bad Fur Day. Some chunks every now and then of Killer Instinct Gold, for nostalgia basically, as I believe the reboot is the best entry. Oh, that means I'm not blind because of nostalgia, everyone.

Can't wait to play Kameo and the Banjo trilogy (Kameo and Nuts 'n' Bolts for the first time). Right now I just started Halo (Master Chief Collection) for the first time in my life (chapter 3 of Halo 1 now).

Re: Xbox Live Spring Sale: Xbox One Opening Day Deals List

VanillaLake

Lots of discounts and this has just begun.

@Utena-mobile Rare Replay is awesome value. I don't play the Spectrum games but most of the N64 and Xbox 360 games that are included are awesome, it doesn't really matter if they are dated. Better looking does not necessarily mean better - talking about games. You get a lot of the magical Rare touch for few euros/dollars.

Regarding Rise of The Tomb Raider, I am tempted too, but will wait to see the PS4 version first.

Re: Review: Tom Clancy's The Division (Xbox One)

VanillaLake

@KelticDevil Thanks for the info. I played Doom on my dad's computer when I was just a little kid. It is the first violent game I've ever played, and it did scare me quite, to be honest. I thought I wouldn't be able to beat it but looking for those vests or whatever they were I managed to make it to the end, although I just barely remember the game.

Re: Review: Tom Clancy's The Division (Xbox One)

VanillaLake

@KelticDevil So was Destiny full of paid DLC then? I'm afraid of life-consuming games, too. That's why if I do, I only buy one of those per generation and it must be extremely rewarding.

I'm curious about Ghost Recon (Wildlands?) and Doom now.

Re: Review: Tom Clancy's The Division (Xbox One)

VanillaLake

@Dpishere Same here! My first Monster Hunter was 3 and now playing 4 Ultimate. About online gaming, it depends on the game and the people you're playing with. I don't enjoy playing Mario Kart 8 online because all I see is chaos, but I was very lucky to find excellent Monster Hunter hunting friends and I became an excellent hunter myself. I enjoyed a lot so grinding and collecting was not a chore, and I used a USB keyboard for instant communication. I also had Wii Speak but it is crap.

Re: Poll: Pure Xbox 2016 Reader Survey

VanillaLake

@BAMozzy I share your opinion about videos. I like video reviews although most of them are like "Hey, wow this is good, yeah, this is what you get. Well, actually I don't like this. Oh, man, keep it on!" but some are good.

If I watch a gameplay video it's because I want to know what is the game about (e.g., Hyrule Warriors). I don't watch other people playing, I prefer playing myself. I know I'm not a great player, I'm average and I could learn seeing other people play, but my goal is to just have fun in a decent way, not just smashing buttons, you know. I used to think I was a good player because I got 100% on Metroid Prime 2 on GameCube when I was a teenager but when I see myself on leaderboards I'm always in the middle so I guess I'm an average player, after all. Also, I have other hobbies so I won't ever be that good. I really had a hard time beating Conker's Bad Fur Day (Rare Replay). Last night I reached the final boss but I couldn't beat it, I'll try it later and see if I'm lucky.

I also prefer AAA games. Most indie games are not that good, and if I want that retro feel some of them offer I can play Rare Replay or Nintendo classics or whatever and they'll be better.

Re: Poll: Pure Xbox 2016 Reader Survey

VanillaLake

@Utena-mobile As you might know, I used to be a Nintendo fan boy but not any more. Now Nintendo is what I criticise the most. Some time ago, a girl from the Nintendo Life staff banned me because of that but I think she's not working there any more (Dragon-something). Don't read me wrong, I still love Nintendo, but I disagree with most of their business decisions since the Wii era. As you said, criticising is not necessarily a bad thing, if you have good intentions, it's actually good. And I'm criticising business decisions and games, you'll never read me insulting anybody like some people do. I own a Wii U and I just bought Twilight Princess HD special edition, so it's not that I don't care any more. I also have an Xbox One and PS4.

I don't like all Purexbox writing but what is being talked here I do like, Ken's articles for example are good and I enjoy them. Very professional. On the other hand, some reviewers here don't write good reviews at all, in my opinion. At least one. I'm with the guys requesting AAA games reviews. That way, you'll have people only visiting Purexbox for information about the Xbox world.

Re: Editor's Opinion: The Logically Fallacious 32X Comparison

VanillaLake

Interesting article, Ken.

"A single upgrade box would be pretty simple to sell and to advertise. Not only that, but it wouldn't instantly render inventory currently sitting in warehouses as worthless".

I think the future of Xbox is the backwards compatibility. Microsoft already made the software to run Xbox 360 games on Xbox One. Xbox and Xbox One share a similar architecture so it's easy to port games (Grabbed by the Ghoulies). Little time ago PS4 doubled Xbox One consoles out there, now the gap is not that big. Microsoft is improving Xbox reputation because of the focus on the customers rather than the gimmicks and boundaries of Xbox One early days.

Microsoft should release a new "Xbox" every x years that was designed to be backwards compatible in a easy way and it may become the most popular console. Of course, the newer games would run on the latest platform only but you could play all your old games. The way Xbox One does this with 360 games is amazing.
