@AJDarkstar it might be a controversial opinion, but I’d say skip the original. I got Halo 2 with my original Xbox and struggled initially going to the original. Might be a better idea to start with a more modern game like Halo 3 or 4 (avoid the campaign in 5!!) to get a feel for it then go back.
@Nightcrawler71 same here. I actually had it preordered at one point but cancelled I stretched myself too thin with buy the Series X, Series S for my son, and a PS5. So glad I’ll be able to give it a go now.
@FraserG I know we shouldn’t expect everything for free, but feels wrong that the people who adopted early and paid full price for the DLC, effectively financing the developers ability to add next-gen upgrades, are the ones who will now miss out over those who waited to see if the game was a success.
So when they say that only Ultimate purchasers will get a free upgrade, does that mean that those of us that already have the original will be getting an upgrade at a price, or no upgrade at all?
The current dashboard on the Xbox One X|S looks fine on a 4K display so it’s not something that worries me. HDR support on the dashboard would be nice though.
That’s pretty steep. I’ll be waiting my a bit before I upgrade. I’ve got an 8tb HDD attached to my One X that I’ll transfer over, and use the free space on that to swap games in and out of the internal drive as needed.
Got a Series X for myself and a Series S for the bairn from the Microsoft website. It was a bit finicky to start with but eventually played ball. Also managed to get a Series X for my brother from Currys, but that was an hour queue to log in. Amazon never even showed the console until it sold out, and Game was still over an hour wait to log in at half past eight.
@SolarSailor I agree I don’t think they will stop the big games from coming to other platforms. Too much money to be made from the millions of people gaming on Nintendo and PlayStation. Though I would point out that Minecraft and Wasteland were already coming to other consoles before their studios were bought.
Still, having Doom, Wolfenstein, Elder Scrolls and Fallout, among others, would be a tremendous selling point if they were truly exclusive.
@KelticDevil if you’ve played and enjoyed any of the Mega Drive Sonic games you’ll be right at home with Sonic Mania. It’s good on the Xbox but I play it mostly on the Switch. Failing that Sonic Generations is my favourite of the more modern games. Can’t really comment on Team Sonic Racing as I haven’t tried it yet, but I wasn’t impressed with Sonic Forces.
I really struggled to get into most of Remedy’s games. Started but never finished Quantum Break, Alan Wake and both original Xbox Max Payne games. I didn’t think they were bad games, just never gripped me.
Control though I thought was great fun, so I’m interested to go back to it with this new DLC and see if it piques my interest in giving Alan Wake another chance.
I haven’t played a Need for Speed since the 360 but just noticed NFS Heat has been added to the EA Access Vault. Going to give it a go, hopefully it’ll get me back into the NFS series.
I want to see new games. I don’t care if they are sequels to currently games or new IP’s but they have to be new and never seen before.
I’ll be disappointed if we see time wasted on current-gen games being upgraded. We already know about that feature, which admittedly is awesome, but the criticism of Microsoft has always been that they lack new exclusives.
Personally I’d love to see a new Fable and Perfect Dark, a couple of older IP’s like Blinx, Conker or Crimson Skies make comebacks, and of course I want Halo to be awesome.
A couple of third-party exclusive would also be awesome. Give me a new Splinter Cell or Jade Empire!!
I’d like to see the event in proper 4K 60fps to get a better idea of what the games will look like in real life. I’m aware the stream was capped at 1080p 30fps and I’m wondering if that’s why I feel a bit meh about what I saw.
Couple of interesting games shown, some looked like pure filler.
Not a massive fan of the look of the console, but could see myself getting the digital edition at some point to compliment the XSX.
Hopefully GTAV I’ll be upgraded for free via Smart Delivery. I’ve already bought the game twice on 360 and One so won’t pay for a third time. I’d love to try Demon’s Souls but not holding my breath for an Xbox version. Liked the look of Resi 8 and Hitman 3.
I actually haven’t played any of these although I’ve got Max Payne and Eternal Sonata on the 360. I’d have to vote for Max Payne simply because I played a bit of the first one years ago and kind of enjoyed it. Would still like the other two to be added to the backwards compatible list as well.
Further to that, I was gutted that Mortal Kombat 9 never made the list previously so that is the top of my own personal list.
@stylon the original has the best setting too. Two and three were too early industrial for me, while the original has less in the way of technology and more in the way of remote villages surrounded by monsters and magic.
@KelticDevil I'm similar to yourself. I've played Forza Motorsport 2-5 and enjoyed them enough, but feel that they are just too serious for me. For me the Horizon games at the virtual equivalent of jumping in the car and tearing around at speed, with the windows down and music blaring. Horizon wins hands down for me every time.
@KelticDevil both 1 & 2 are well worth a purchase. Haven't played very much of the original but it still holds up very well, and the American Mid-West setting is nice. Two is also great and the French/Italian setting is equally fun.
I was always interested in the original after the awesome reveal trailer, but never got to play it. Was more cautious about this, especially after the seeming nightmare it went through in development. Seems like this ultimately suffered the Duke Nukem Forever syndrome of protracted development at a number of different studios, resulting in a unwhelming game. Pity.
I'm still holding out hope for Phil Spencer to say something along the lines of "sorry for the delay in adding certain games to backwards compatibility. The good news is we have straightened things out with all our partners, and EVERY 360 game will be BC as of.................now. And that includes original Xbox games."
Mic drop.
@KelticDevil I've no idea what Kaiden's story is after the first game. After five playthroughs he still gets left with to detonate the bomb every time.
@stylon I think the issue is that there is no Games on Demand version of Doom 3 BFG Edition on the marketplace. I had a look a while ago as I've been replacing discs for digital (been able to get loads of digital games cheap while hey are on sale, then sell the disc for more than I've paid for the digital version). The disc version works like any others though, disc goes in, digital copy downloads. It does also download the XBLA versions of Doom 1&2.
@KelticDevil I'm the same. I actually bought it from Amazon when it was released, but returned it for a full refund when all the reviews declared it to be garbage. Always wanted to try it though as I love the Alien franchise. £3.74 is the UK price, so going to buy it.
Great game, but at £12 it's tough to justify buying again, especially since the original is backward compatible. Think I'll,pass on this for the time being.
I've had the original and Riptide since they were released on Games with Gold, but never played them. Just as well I've still got the 360 set up as it looks like they won't be backwards compatible for a while if they're releasing these remasters.
Not sure about this. I played most of the Resident Evil games on the GameCube, and always loved ReMake, Zero was great, and really enjoyed Nemesis and Code Veronica. I'm definitely going to be the odd one out by saying I enjoyed two the least of all the originals (in my defence I did blow through it in about three days, so never really got attached to it like others did. Will probably get the remake of two when it come to see if I change my mind).
As far as this bundle goes, four was always a great game but having played through it on the GameCube, Wii and 360 I can safely say I won't be purchasing it again. Kind of enjoyed five at the time of release, but having tried it again a few months ago it has aged badly, with the companion A.I. Being so bad that it makes Halo 5's companion Spartans seem like absolute geniuses in comparison. Six,meh! Never finished all three campaigns, found it to be very samey throughout, the plot had become one of the the most convoluted and incomprehensible that I've ever seen and was so far removed from the originals that it would have been better being a new franchise altogether.
Having side all that, I wouldn't mind four, five and six being backwards compatible, however Capcom will be getting no money from me for these re-releases.
Downloaded Witcher onto my One earlier. Just found at my brothers house and thought I'd download it for him since he's away just now. The game is no longer appearing on the store on the 360, and when I try to redeem it on Xbox.com it says it isn't available in this region (United Kingdom). Hopefully it's a glitch, it does say on Major Nelson's blog that the UK was a region the game was available in.
An upgrade system for people who already have the original would be awesome. I upgraded Street Fighter 4 to the Super then Ultra editions, so it's definitely possibly if the developer is will to make it happen.
I may be wrong but I was under the impression that 360 GWG are now also dependant on remaining a gold subscriber. I know they used to be free for life once downloaded, but I'm pretty sure that was changed last year so that the requirement matches up with the X1.

I really need to give The Outer Worlds another go. Was really enjoying it but stopped playing and never got round to picking it back up.
Re: Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered Drifts Onto Xbox This November
@pip_muzz the Xbox website has it priced at £34.99, or £31 if you have EA Play. I’m tempted at that price.

Re: Gears Tactics Hits Console With Xbox Game Pass On November 10th
I played a wee bit of this on my girlfriends ageing PC and was pretty impressed. The Xcom-style really suits the Gears universe.
Hopefully it’ll look awesome on the TV rather than the tiny monitor.

Re: AT&T Reportedly Looking To Offload Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
