Update []: Well, it's definitely a real game! Screenshots for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion "Remastered" have appeared on developer Virtuos's website. You'll find more details and a glimpse at the new images elsewhere on Pure Xbox:
Original Story: Right, okay, we have another tidbit of Oblivion remake information to bring to you today - despite the reported re-release being in the headlines for months at this point. Now, according to industry reporter Jeff Grubb, Bethesda's remake of The Elder Scrolls IV will shadow drop in the week commencing April 21st.
Talking on a new episode of Giant Bomb's GameBreaking News show, Grubb says that he's "gotten separate confirmation" that the Oblivion remake is arriving next week, with the game seemingly still set to be a 'shadow drop' from Bethesda and Microsoft.
I'll give people a week now... the week of April 21st. So, basically the last week of this month [...] it should shadow drop then, which I think other people have said but I've gotten separate confirmation that that's going to be the case. So, shadow drop last week of the month...
Of course, we've heard about the game's planned shadow drop release once or twice before, and it was even expected much earlier in the month at one point. It's safe to say that lots of insider sources have been hearing about this one for a while, so we just hope that Grubb & co. are more accurate with this latest information. We can't wait much longer!
As for the nature of the remake itself, it's long been reported that MGS Delta studio Virtuos is at the helm, and that the Xbox 360 classic is set for a pretty extensive Unreal Engine 5 overhaul when it finally arrives on Xbox Series X and S.
Do you think next week will finally be the week? Talk to us about this latest report down below.

Dammit... I hate that we're being given yet another rumour about this and I'm ready to 'Boy who cried wolf' this, but Jeff is a difficult source to ignore. Doesn't mean he hasn't been wrong in the past, but his name holds more credibility than most of these "Insider Sources".
Should very well be a nice addition to the service. I'll be surprised if they shadow drop it though. Does it really warrant that? Surely an announcement via the Game Pass lineup for the second half of April would be better suited?
I'll believe it when I see it at this stage!
Not bothered till it's officially announced as far as I'm concerned it doesn't exist!
Are you just going to keep crying wolf until it actually drops?
Rumour articles along with the Reddit sourced ones are a couple of the things I really dislike about this site (& Push Square to be fair.)
Ya when i see it on the store i will believe it, just feels almost like a running gag at the moment.
And when it doesn't drop next week
it will be the week after
and then the week after that 🤣🤣🤣
Eh, drop it or don't drop it. Either way Claire Obscure: Expedition 33 is my top gaming priority on the 24th.
Let's face it; they can't think it's very good, to be released this way. An Unreal engine 5 remake of Oblivion? That should be a front & centre showcase level reveal, right?
Last of week of the month shouldn't be the following one though? 🧐
Will it be bundled with Titanfall 3 and the Metroid Prime 2 and 3 remasters inside sources are sure exist?
@NeutronBomb Sometimes a shadow drop can generate a lot of buzz and hysteria, not everyone keeps their ears to the ground on game news and rumours, so it might be a big deal. Also it mitigates hype train disappointment, something that’s all too common with Bethesda games as of late.
@RentedPanda My sources tell that we should expect it to be bundled with Half-Life 3 console-first release.
It’s not a shadow drop if it’s been leaked and reported on.
Didn't believe any of these rumors the past few weeks. Don't believe them now. I will believe it when I see it downloading.
I’m a NintendoLife expat and these kinds of stories do make me feel at home.
Still it would be incredibly hype! I remember watching both of my siblings play this one, though I never touched it!
I have never played Oblivion, so I am excited to see what's in store.
A "remake" surely wouldn't be a shadow-drop.
A re-master however...
April feels like a fairly stacked month for gamepass with blue prince, gtaV and Claire obscure followed by doom in early May. There’s little we know of for the rest of May or June. It feels like an oblivion remake would be far more likely to shadow drop during the Microsoft June digital event, not so much mid-April. Happy to be wrong though.
As much as I want it to be real I'll believe it when I see it. With no real evidence or word from the developer or publisher I just think it's a fabricated myth. I'll buy it in a heartbeat if it's not though.
It's official! The game definitely exists, and a bunch of images have appeared online this morning. We've updated this article, and you'll find even more details elsewhere on Pure Xbox:

The screens look absolutely amazing.
I'm not sure a simple remaster will suffice for me. If the NPC's still making them move and behave like a potato still leaves it as a potato. Many things we take for granted these days, and likely to be missing from a game that is 20 years old, and as much as I love Skyrim, I want more from a game than it simply looking a bit prettier...
@PsBoxSwitchOwner I guess it would be an attempted shadow drop, foiled by leakers? If there is no marketing prior to release, I guess it is still technically a shadow drop.
Shadow drops are the best, I’ve never played Oblivion but seen it so much over the years that I would love to play this remaster. Damn it I’m trying to stop playing games so much!
