Gears of War: E-Day is already one of the most anticipated titles on the way to the Xbox in the future and it seems Microsoft's Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has recently checked in with developer The Coalition to get a status update.
In a post on social media to kick off the month of February, Spencer revealed how he had spent some "quality time this week" with the team in Canada, to see how its progress is going on E-Day. Unfortunately, he didn't expand on this, but he did share a shot of himself with the team. You can see him towards the right side of the photo alongside Craig Duncan, who is now the head of Xbox Game Studios.

This visit from Spencer follows an update earlier this week with the announcement the developer 'People Can Fly' would be supporting The Coalition on E-Day. As you might recall, this is the same studio who worked on Gears of War: Judgement back in the day and more recently released Outriders.
Gears of War: E-Day was originally announced last year in June 2024 and will be an Unreal Engine 5 experience returning to the origin of Marcus Fenix and his crew. It's been previously rumoured to be launching this year, but there's been no official announcement from Xbox at this stage.
Are you excited about The Coalition's next Gears game? Let us know.

Unreal 5 definitely suits Gears and the coalition as gears was always Unreal and the coalition help a bit with unreal sort of development and testing.
Looking forward to this one, day one game pass.
Do wonder why they had to bring in people can fly as the coalition are a big studio and it’s been a long time since gears 5 and the small but great Hivebusters.
Hope it's as manly and brutal as the early ones were 💪🏻
I just feel like the game is going to still be years away so can't get hyped at all!
Am I the only one that looked for Phil, and spent half an hour trying to find him like it's Where's Wally?
Really looking forward to this game. I wonder how far along it is to justify a trip that takes a few days? Or am I looking into this too much? I reckon 2026 maybe?

Let's hope it turns out well.
Shouldn't this article be on push square site too
Sucks that no matter what story they make we still have to end up with Marcus getting the back seat
@andrewsqual I'm confused is this article cheering for him? Or anyone in this comment section? This just seems like people desperate for Gears E-Day information taking what little they can get. No one has suggested anything on its quality. Phil just basically tweeted "Here's this neat picture from when I visited them with the XGS head." He didn't give a timeline or even say how development was going. This article itself has very little substance because there's currently nothing to go off of. I will say that Gears fans have a solid history of the coalition building games that are at least "good" (if not far far better than good). Like if you just want to attack Phil there's better articles to do it on (one's that sing his praises or focus on interviews he's done (you can find recent ones too)). Here it comes off not like you're "waking up the sheepeople" about Phil Spencer, but like you actively hate the man and either just want the clout or just hate him so much you'll use anything that mentions him to bring up why everyone should hate him. I at least hope that's not what you're going for.
@Kaloudz Phil has said before that he always has meetings with the studios under the Xbox umbrella just to check in with them. In the past he's done similar trips with studios that haven't announced anything or ones that have recently released something. That said 2026 feels solid to me. I don't believe 2025 from the leaks or rumors. Even if that was an internal target, that's far from an actual release date. Lakers need to stop saying the first thing they hear honestly. Especially in terms of release dates just who does this benefit? Internal targets change all the time and otherwise unofficial release dates (even if they heard it from people inside Xbox) are worthless. For E-Day all we saw was an in engine cutscene (no gameplay). In engine is great and means work is really far along (especially as that'd have been an older build they'd have to prep and polish for the Showcase), but that we didn't see any gameplay and got no release date pretty blatantly says not to expect it too soon. Even if the game is targeting 2025 and is "finished" (in a passable state) this year, that still doesn't mean Xbox would want to drop it this year. Xbox now has a massive first party portfolio to balance and ensure their own games don't eat into each other's sales. There's also GTA VI to watch out for and other industry changes. Planning and marketing and financials still have to figure out when it'd be best to release the game. 2026 seems good to me as even if there isn't a new Xbox generation, that's still Xbox's 25th anniversary and a quarter of a century is a big milestone. A Gears title that goes back to the roots would pair well with this. But even then the game could be further out, who knows.
It is my #1 anticipated game of probably all games at this point. Neither GTA or wolverine or anything comes close. Had a great time playinf gear 1 ultimate edition couple of months ago on hard.
And even that I enjoyed 4-5, definitely the first trilogy is superior and be back as a prequel is just so good. I also probably jump into MP this time too.
@Lrapsody No, Baird is gay and is outing himself to be in a marriage with Cole in this game. And there are girl brutes inside the enemies so there's equality. 😂
Jokes aside and I hope so too.
Phil Spencer when entering The Coalition studios:
"hey you lazy developers, keep the release window in mind and make that game bug free! You know, the fools out there have to keep paying for Game Pass Ultimate.
And if you don't deliver, you have to make a PS5 version after release and this studio is shut down and you all lose your job!!!
So keep working! "
Well, even if you scenario were to exist, @Nintendo4Sonic, neither Baird or Cole will be in E-Day anyway... 😉
@WildConcept6 Totally agree with everything you have said (as well as learned a few things) but mostly, I totally agree with GTA 6. I bet there's a shed load of games that are ready to launch later this year but are waiting on GTA to drop its release date lol! I reckon GTA is gunna fall to 2026 myself. It's such a Rockstar thing to do.
Sad news, guys. I see Peter Jason, the voice of Dizzy passed away yesterday (20th). He was my go to character in many a Horde game. Loved his voice. Real shame to see this news...
Thought you might want to know, @FraserG @OldGamer999 @HonestHick @Millionski @Kaloudz
@Fiendish-Beaver well thanks for sharing the news with me even tho it’s bad news. Sad to hear he’s gone. His voice has brought some much fun and laughs to millions of Gear’s heads like us. Dizzy is also my main character i play with and on the other side i use General Raam.
@Fiendish-Beaver Thanks for sharing buddy. Sad news indeed! :'(
