After what's been years and years of rumour and speculation, we might just have our strongest evidence of a Gears of War remaster collection yet. Well-known Xbox leaker eXtas1s has posted a new video that breaks down a bunch of stuff going on over at Microsoft right now - and he's claimed that the Gears collection is real and being planned for PS5.
The clip in question is in Spanish, but a post over at gaming forum Resetera has taken the Gears chunk and given it a quick Google Translate. Here's what's eXtas1s said, roughly translated to English:
"I can talk about Gears Collection because Gears Collection has cost me a lot to corroborate its existence, but it seems that it exists and I can confirm that at the moment in which Gears Collection is announced, which I don't know when it will be, but it will be announced as multiplatform day one.
I repeat again. When these kinds of remasters are announced, remasters of the old Gears games are going to be able to be cross-platform play simultaneously. The only thing I haven't been able to confirm is the launch of a Switch version but it can be played cross-platform on PC, Xbox and PlayStation."
Of course, the translation is a bit messy considering it's just been thrown through Google's online translation tool, but the core information is there. According to the often-accurate leaker, this Gears Collection is seemingly real - and although we don't have a date yet, it's set to come to Xbox, PS5 and PC when it eventually launches.
The insider has also retweeted the below post, which quickly summarises the news with a link to their video:
It goes without saying that this Gears Collection hasn't been announced by Microsoft yet, so it's worth taking all of this information with a pinch of salt - even if it's coming from a pretty reliable source. The timing of this leak is quite intriguing though, especially on the back of Xbox boss Phil Spencer being spotted revisiting the 360 versions of Gears 2 and 3 in recent weeks.

Here before all the chaos.
People: We want Gears Collection!
> Xbox releases it multiplatform
People: No, not like this
🤣
They made this collection because they are not on pc or Playstation. Without their multiplat strategy, we would not be getting this.
I am curious if this has any impact on the original titles. Do they continue to live along side the upgrades on gamepass or even the store? Hard to believe they would go the Rockstar route and delist them but it's at least a possibility. Depending on the scope of the remaster, maybe it is free like the quake/doom upgrades but who knows at this point. Does crossplay work between the collection and original 360 versions or is this a separate game?
@Lup 🤣🤣🤣
Fable is also now rumoured for day 1 PS5 launch. This is the new normal.
It makes sense, especially if E-day will also be multiplatform.
To quote Marcus Fenix : BRING IT !!!
@Cakefish No problem with that. They've made no secret about their plans to remove barriers. Fable will be available on Xbox, too. It's not like anything is being taken away. Just that the game and studio gets more reach.
@Cakefish
The production values in Fable are dialled up to insane and that can't be done on the cheap. With money to be made on PS and likely Switch 2, it would be an easy decision Microsoft to port it.
My assumption is almost every Xbox game is going multiplatform going forward. Phil Spencer’s statements to Destin Legarie were very clear imo. If there are games on a platform willing to buy they will look to publish there. And why not? It’s going to make them a lot more money than they currently do.
What, PS5 day one, at this rate a year after on Xbox 🤣
Yes, everything is day and date with PS5 from now on. And Switch 2 once that launches.
Xbox will generate profits the likes of which have never been seen before in the gaming industry. The shareholders will be delighted.
Yea it’s everything now. Guess any game going forward and it’s multiplatform.
Aren’t they basically competing with themselves though at this point? With this many releases in a year?
At this point all I can say is... LOL. 🤷🏻

Article needs to be corrected, PS5 is an Xbox.
@Sol76 quoting Carmine: LETS DO THIS!
Nothing can stop the Cole train baby! Wooo!
I can’t wait if it’s true. This and E-day are my dream games. If i was sent to an island and could only have 5 games for the rest of my life with me. These would be 2 of the 5. Yes i want E-day and GOW collection that bad.
Sony are inevitably going to have to go down this route further at some point. The spiralling costs and time of development means their current business model isn't sustainable.
They've already dipped their toes in the water with MLB and Lego Horizon and my guess is we'll see quite a few ports to Switch 2.
Once they see the money Xbox will be raking in, there will be huge pressure from the shareholders.
@SMJ It would be ironic if the additional revenue from xbox game purchases, that cost them zero to develop, meant that PS didn't have to go multiplatform with their own games.
Unlikely, but still pretty comical all the same.
@K1LLEGAL It might be they're throwing everything at a wall and seeing what sticks, much like what Square Enix did in 2022.
@SMJ
I think that will depend on install sizes for Xbox, Nintendo and Playstation in the future. It would be sweet though if all consoles played all games in the future but I think thats unlikely for a long time yet.
Obviously, I'd play this via game pass but depending on what it actually included (bundle vs integrated like MCC) I'd buy it on Switch 2.

I thought the perks of game pass was day 1 releases ….
@Weebleman I mean, if a competitor came to you and said we want to sell our stuff at your market and give you a cut, you have to do nothing, AND this will remove any incentives to entice your customers to leave your ecosystem.... Who could say no? Just more money for Sony at this point.
I don't care once we get it and absolute joke how gears has been handled since Microsoft took over the IP!!
Can't wait to curb stomp playstation players on multiplayer though that will be sweet!!👍😎😊
@Valhura This is a final nail in the Xbox hardware coffin
It really isn't. It's been said that the next Xbox will be focused on delivering the biggest technological leap ever in a generation, not to mention being feature competitive. I wouldn't write anything off until you at the very least see what they've got baking. Have a little faith...
Only a muppet will chose that next gen
I guess that makes me a muppet then.
@SMJ Exactly when they see how much Microsoft get in profit from releasing there games on playstation they would want a slice of that especially when most of them are older games already made ready to be ported probably with Microsofts help huge profits for basically dead games on there system sales wise!!
I hope the assets are updated like ultimate edition, rather than a basic port to make it worth playing over the enhanced emulated versions
@mac_da_man I'm convinced that the next generation will be the last bespoke hardware from Sony and Microsoft. It just won't be needed after that.
At that point it will all be about the games and the current Xbox strategy is a Trojan horse to make sure that as many people as possible are invested in their IP when that happens.
I simply cannot see there being a PS6 or Xbox whatever being necessary in 2035.
I don't care if it's multi platform and I just want it so I can play it on my Xbox Series X 😊
@SMJ
Think there will be a PS6 and perhaps one more pointless Xbox console, but after that yeah.. not sure there will be a PS7 post 2030 if Microsoft’s vision for future gaming goes to plan.
"Well-known Xbox leaker" or not, how is someone saying something evidence? Phil Spencer being spotted playing Gears of War 3 again, wearing a Gears of War t-shirt and wiping his arse with Gears of War toilet paper? Now that's evidence 🙄
I don't see why every single time a game is announced for PlayStation it needs a post. It's nice that others can play these games and generate revenue for Xbox but holyshit, stop "News" spamming the website. This doesn't affect Xbox console gamers at all.
@TheSimulator Yes that's correct, you get them on Gamepass Day One of release at No extra cost, anyone without Gamepass pays £70.
I think we all get the idea about games going multiformat, it's all getting a bit pointless announcing every rumour or release on other formats (They have their own websites for that) so can we now get back to Xbox news.
@TanaDax PS6 and Xbox Prime will be a thing. Then once everything is digital there's no need for Microsoft and Sony to spend billions of dollars on R&D for new consoles.
I really hope we get cross play with PlayStation so I have more people to play with... and murder the ***** out 'em.
@Kaloudz Got any more room in the Muppet Mafia? Where's my application!
@Weebleman it’s more ironic that Sony can cancel all their live service *****, and MS go here let us fill that release window for you.
Now we know why Sony have been able to do this. And still get good games.
Wow. Great news. Just beat 1,4,5 and hivebusters and internationaly did not start 2-3 becuase of these rumours.
If its true then I am in day 1.
Moreover, gears 1 ultimate editions was one of the best experiences for me last year. Beat it on hard. And game feels so refreshing even after 15 years or so.
So really hyped for collection
@TheEstablishment well you can download ps3/360 digital games that you purchased back in a day even that consoles are not produced anymore and their digital stores were closed. So dont see why it would he different in your scenario.
Moreover, Ms are the only ones who talk game preservation and play anywhere so imo your purchases are most safe with them.
If they quit console, you just keep the latest box to access those games and some of your library will be accessible via PC/cloud.
Literally my plan is to buy next xbox and if it absolutely flops and lose support mid-way or something crazy like that, I keep it as a legacy machine and buy another platform. As I always owned multiple platforms for me risk is close to 0.
@Kaloudz yep 30M muppets bro
With such crazy lineup of games, if you like xbox as a system and GP I see no reason to quit.
Man I even bought xbox because I did not care much about ps4 exclusives back then, I beat them and moved on to play 3rd party 99% of the time so I bought xbox not for exclusives to start with
@Millionski EXACTLY!
@Cakefish Except it won't because they don't have control of a dominant ecosystem. And they will be giving out 30% to other platforms.
Not to mention many of their games aren't as sought-after as Sony and Nintendo first-party games.
@SMJ Nope, they make much more from controlling their ecosystem, plus have a much larger install base than Xbox which will transition to purely being a publisher.
Xbox only reports revenue figures not profit anyway lol.
@NattyKing Do you genuinely think that there will be a PS7? I don't.
I believe that Sony and Microsoft will give up on bespoke hardware after PS6 and Xbox Prime.
Once bespoke hardware disappears, it all comes down to software. Xbox has the far more profitable IP and are currently conditioning PlayStation players to invest and stay invested.
Sony are currently only focussing on the number of PlayStation consoles they can sell. That's a losing strategy.
Sony is already testing the water by releasing MLB and Lego Horizon on Switch.
Their ecosystem, long term, will be an app to access their storefront. That's it. It will be the same for Xbox. You'll be able to buy whatever games you want and play them on whatever devices you want.
@SMJ The league forced Sony to make MLB multiplatform, nothing to do with testing the water. Very likely the same applies to Lego Horizon. Meanwhile the big hitters remain console exclusive.
Cloud streaming remains far off. Geforce Experience is the best, but it still has issues with queue times, and it's expensive. Then you have problems with latency and image quality which will always exist no matter how many data centres there are. Can you imagine playing a competitive multiplayer game and enjoying it on x-Cloud? Nope me neither. I think some people just talk about cloud streaming as a way of not accepting the pivot Xbox has made.
@NattyKing Sony shareholders will look at the money being made by Xbox and put pressure on the business.
I also wasn't talking about streaming at all. I'm talking about a generic PC box under a TV not made by Sony or Microsoft. At that point Xbox has the better lineup.
You didn't answer my question. Do you think there will be a PS7?
Wonder what kind of showcase this news'll be presented at officially? I'm sure there's already active betting odds at what might appear in a certain April showcase of Nintendo's, and something like this wouldn't even be the most outlandish space on a bingo card...
Would be interesting to see and after Ultimate edition, I think why not for the engine too, offer the rest. Just the 360 entries as a download is fine but it's not the same.
If PS5 as well not surprised if they would offer the series there as well to a new audience.
Even if I'm comfortable with my 360 versions as it is. Not a big gears fans either but I still enjoy the games.
@FarmDog08 LOL! There's always room for you my man!
@Millionski With such crazy lineup of games, if you like xbox as a system and GP I see no reason to quit.
Exactly mate. People getting so eat up over this sort of thing goes way over my head. I don't understand it lol. Not only that but like I've said a million times (as have others) MS knows what they're doing. They're not one of the biggest companies in the world for no reason... Plus, their next console sounds like it's going to be completely unique (them saying it will be feature competitive, and the largest leap of any gen).
@NattyKing honestly it was intended to be a facetious remark, hence my little cheeky quip about shareholders at the end (as if I care how many luxury yachts/jets the shareholders can buy). However, it is true that this move will generate more profits than ever before - they simply wouldn’t be doing this otherwise. Their prime directive is to generate as much money as possible. They are chasing the bigger fish in Sony waters now, the Xbox consoles are merely an afterthought. We are disposable and they have deprioritised us in favour of greener pastures.
"With such crazy lineup of games,"
Soon to be playstation's lineup minus all playstation games and minus a ton of third party games. Super crazy.
@Kaloudz dude they said XSX is the most powerful console on paper, turns out when you are not the lead platform devs do not put in any extra work to take advantage of that power, PS5 has had way better versions of many games even though it's supposed to be inferior tech. Also, as an X1 gamer, I remember their BS about the power of the cloud, don't worry we tried to sell you a more expensive console that was lower power the cloud will fix it... we got crackdown, now I loved the og and 2 was a cheap cash in but I was expecting so much more from we got
@Valhura I used to run an Xbox website, with all reviews posted to Metacritic, before needing to sell it due to health issues. Check my Crackdown 3 review here (just the score and the summary)
https://www.xboxtavern.com/crackdown-3-review/
You'll see I wholeheartedly agree with what you're saying now. I'm the first to slate MS when I feel they've dropped the ball. Believe me. But here, these moves are necessary imo and make no difference to the average gamer's experience.
As for what they're saying now (about the biggest leap ever and being feature competitive) they've learned from their mistakes. They will deliver. I firmly believe that.
Sony did not want MLB to go on the Xbox, @SMJ. The developers said they would withdraw the licence if they were not allowed to release it on the Xbox, and Sony caved rather than lose the licence.
Sony have given precisely nothing to the Xbox. Not one thing! The only thing the did not do was take Destiny from us, but I think they would probably have done so if it wouldn't have made them look particularly scummy, particularly after Microsoft didn't do that with the likes of Minecraft.
I do, however, believe that Sony will start to release their games day and date on the PC in the not too distant future. As for Xbox? Forget it. They won't bother with such a failing system. The Xbox console is on life support. Sony would be more likely to pull the plug, than provide Microsoft oxygen...
What reputation, @TheEstablishment? I honestly cannot see us getting access to all the games we have bought. I just don't think they can implement that. As for their reputation? I really don't think they will care, so long as they are make oodles of money...
Can you please explain to me how Sony are testing the waters with MLB, @SMJ? I'm struggling with that one...
@SMJ How will they look at the money being made at Xbox when profit figures are hidden? Lol.
There will absolutely be a PS7. A generic PC box that everyone decides to release games on? The nearest you will get is a Steam Box. Some will buy it, many will rather have a console under their TV.
@Cakefish This move is purely about the Xbox hardware failing.
They will make more money than they were previously, but is that really saying much? GamePass has been a money sink, and they have a small userbase, and they are still losing money on Series X production because they haven't figured out how to reduce costs.
Sony and Nintendo will make more in terms of profit by controlling their own ecosystems.
You simply do not know that, @BacklogBrad. You have absolutely no idea! How could you? How could you possibly know that Microsoft have made this collection because it was not available on the PC or the PlayStation? How could you know that? Microsoft have not even admitted the existence of the game, let alone told us why they have made it! This is pure speculation on your part, and just comes off as desperation in your efforts to support the decisions being made by Microsoft.
Tell me; when Sony remastered the Last of Us from the PS3 to the PS4, or from the PS4 to PS5, why did they do that? I'll help you out; they did so for their own customer base. Or are you suggesting that Microsoft have not done this for their own userbase, but for the benefit of other platform users?
How does the game not having a period of exclusivity on the Xbox help us? How does that grow the Xbox ecosystem? If this was simply a bundled collection of the games from the 360 era, then yes, sure, day one would make no odds because they are already available to us. However, these games are remastered (from what we are being led to believe) so there will be genuine interest from Xbox gamers in either playing them for the first time, or revisiting them, which is not something that would have happened with a simple collection as we already (effectively) have that .
Xbox has no value besides game pass. If i didnt own 800 games on xbox i would have moved on ages ago . Absolute clown show
@Fiendish-Beaver MLB and Lego Horizon. I don't think I have to explain myself further.
@NattyKing If you're absolutely convinced there will be a PS7 then great! I'm so happy for you!
However I know it won't happen. But you can absolutely cry if you want to.
@BacklogBrad @Fiendish-Beaver We can tell a Gears collection would be made because of other platforms based on how Microsoft has approached ports/remasters/remakes of Xbox and Xbox 360 games for XB1/Series X|S. After 2015 (the year that the backwards compatibility program started), the only ones that happened for backwards compatible games were:
Both of which were part of Microsoft's big PC push. So we can tell that Microsoft use ports/remasters/remakes as a way to bring old games to systems that can't play them.
I don't think PS5 was part of the original plans though, rather an addition last year when Microsoft changed to multiplatform.
You do, @SMJ, to be honest, matey.
Lego Horizon - was a licenced product. Likely as not, it was Kirkbi that insisted it went to the Switch. It probably was not something that Sony would have insisted on.
MLB - Sony actively did not want to appear on the Xbox. MLB threatened to withdraw the licence if Sony did not allow the game to go on to the Xbox.
People keep trying to say that Sony are being forced into going multiplatform, just like Microsoft are, but that really is not the case. Yes, AAA games are costing so much that Sony will most likely start putting their games on to the PC day and date, but the have not yet started to do that. Currently, there is a period of exclusivity on the PlayStation before the games go to the PC, with the only exception being Helldivers which is a live service game and which needed as many people playing it as possible.
At present, there is no comparison between what Sony and Microsoft are doing, nor is their a similarity as to why they are doing what they are doing, Sony are putting their games on the PC (after a period pf (sometimes a considerable ) exclusivity), and are doing so because of the high cost of AAA production. Microsoft are scrabbling to save their failing console business, and looking to transition into a third-party publisher (as which they will be highly successful), whilst making as much money as possible for their shareholders. There quite simply is no comparison...
I agree with you, @Grumblevolcano. I said last year that the likelihood is that the reason the Collection did not come out last year was probably because Microsoft decided to make the Collection for the PlayStation too, and that it would release day and date on both platforms.
Not long after the rumours started about the Collection, further rumours began to circulate that it was actually ready. Those particular rumours began about a year ago. When it did not then release, I speculated that the delay was due to a port also being prepared.
Either way, I stand by my point, the Collection started as a project to remaster some of the most beloved Xbox games for Xbox gamers, but when the move to becoming a third-party publisher kicked in, it was at that point the games were made for the PlayStation too...
Totally agree, @Isolte. 100%...
@SMJ You sound you're really setting yourself up for further disappointment.
Consoles are going anywhere, there's no need to be upset about that.
@Fiendish-Beaver Yes this exactly. People are acting like Sony will keen to release games on a small userbase which has been trained to not buy games due to GamePass.
Sony and Nintendo will keep their stores to get their 30% cut on third-party party games/DLC, keep all profits on first-party games, maintain online paywall fees, and selling accessories like the Portal. Playstation will also release a handheld soon.
I said it when gamepass released originally and I'll say it again now. Sega.
Cant compete, become a dev.
