Things may feel a little quiet right now considering how close we are to Xbox's big Avowed launch this month, but marketing on the game might just be about to heat up. The Obsidian RPG is now the star of a huge animated billboard in Times Square, as Microsoft's "global media campaign launches" this week for the upcoming title.
Initially posted by the studio and then shared by Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg, the Xbox exec added a little extra context that points towards us seeing more Avowed being blasted into our faces in the coming days. Here's the advert, in both animated and still form:
And here's what Greenberg added via their personal post:
"Big Avowed Times Square anamorphic billboard is live. Our global media campaign launches tomorrow, play 5 days early on Feb 13th!"
This is certainly an eye-catching ad, and given how long we've been hearing about this game in bits and pieces over the years, it's nice to see some proper mainstream marketing ahead of launch. As Aaron says, players can get early access from February 13 or play the standard edition via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on February 18.
Excited to see Avowed being shown off like this? Tell us what you think of the ad down below.

But is it 60fps?
The translated version was postponed.
The Pillars of Eternity series was never translated in the first place.
Do they intend to sell it in the Asian region?
@Blastfemur 60 on series x and 40 on series s
What are you doing MS, don't market games properly! That's not our thing!
@Coletrain
I chuckled at this comment 😂 You’re right, though. Hold the line!
@Mastlander98 it's still unconfirmed by Obsidian and Microsoft.
Now is the time! They don't need to be quiet anymore. I wonder how does Lina Khan keep herself entertained lately? Xbox should advertise every AAA release, like Call of Duty, Indiana Jones and now Avowed. More big games are coming: Doom: The Dark Age, South of Midnight, Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33...
I was looking at the lettering of Avowed and if you turn it upside down it almost spells out Demon … anyways I’m starting to feel the hype train rolling out …
Do my eyes deceive me. Xbox actually aggressively marketing a game again? That's twice now seen Indy on the sides of buses (in UK) glad to see their marketing team finally making some effort.
@Banjo- As much as they should I don't see South of Midnight and Clair Obscur getting the same marketing push as the others sadly.
Hopefully I am wrong.
Saw the Northspore.com Avowed spray and grow mushroom kit pretty clever marketing scheme I've used these before but sadly the YT vid shows a Avowed Bear that can grow shrooms out of it and I can't find it anywhere for sale.....so close Xbox!
@Banjo- You think they didn’t market their games because of the FTC? Marketing has been a problem for Xbox since 2010.
@Jaxx420 yep saw 2 ad spots for both South of Midnight and Doom The Dark Ages on Spectrum TV and they are 3 months further out so should go high gear in March/April
@Wadeinca1 Doom is multiplat and very mainstream so no surprise there. But I will be surprised if I see South of Midnight on the side of a bus. Let's see.
@IOI I think @Banjo- meant more that she has nothing better to do now which is probably accurate rather than the wider marketing problem or lack of.
Other than Clair being on the Game Pass, @Banjo- / @Jaxx420, it's not really for Xbox to spend cash advertising the game. I would only expect marketing for games actually made by Microsoft owned studios. I say expect, but I really mean it would be nice to see...
Cool ad, although does it mention Xbox at any point?
I probably missed it.
Edit: Just noticed the Xbox logo in the bottom left corner, it's partially obstructed.
@IOI For the millionth time, don't say that I said things that I didn't say.
@Jaxx420 That's right and I agree with old beaver as well. They spend around $1B on third-party deals for Game Pass yearly, they don't need to advertise those games, but Game Pass as a whole and their own big games, like Call of Duty, Indiana Jones and Avowed, the examples I used because, like you, I saw the advertisements. "More games are coming" was just me remembering what's coming next. There are other games that I could have mentioned like Perfect Dark and The Elder Scrolls VI, I'm excited about those two, but who knows when they will release. Oh and there is Everwild, that I wished was Banjo-Kazooie or Viva Piñata, though.
Of course, I was surprised at the marketing last year, not so much this year. I almost didn't expect them to advertise Call of Duty. Microsoft's accountants might think that Xbox has been expensive enough after the acquisitions, but marketing pays off and now is the time. They made a huge investment, now make the most of it.
Nice to see a bit of hype - I really hope Avowed sticks the landing, it's been my most wanted for a long time now.
@Banjo- Aye. Can't lie you know as well as I do though. Nadella is calling the shots now. Whatever gets marketed will be what he thinks will sell. Which is sad. Happened with Sony too. Corporates don't fully understand what gamers want only gamers do which is why Nintendo has been so successful for as long as it has.
@Fiendish-Beaver Agree and slightly disagree with that. If it's on a showcase/update youtube show would expect some deal in place for marketing too. How aggressive they go with that marketing would be my concern with them not being a Microsoft Studio though. Rare to see indies getting external marketing push.
@Jaxx420 Right, but after the gigantic investment they are not turning back and are running on all cylinders. Expanding Xbox like this was not charitable nor a probe. They bet it all. I also think that the biggest first-party games are what will be marketed the most, but it makes sense, because the investment has been greater. We are lucky to learn about smaller games from other users and this website and Game Pass is perfect for discovering. What is your most anticipated game, in between?
Is it rare to see indies getting external marketing push? I think Microsoft makes bundle deals, like Game Pass plus marketing on the store and Xbox shows, or 2-in-1 deals like Octopath Traveller re-added when Octopath Traveller II was added. It's relatively cheap, they are adding more content to Game Pass and the marketing doesn't cost them anything. I even suspect that the launch discount that we are seeing on Game Pass titles lately is part of some deals. They are complex deals that ultimately benefit the publisher and the studio.

Glad to see Dorsey and Bluesky taking off. So much more positive than X and drama free.
I am excited to play this game, looks like a lot of fun
Wow shocking, Microsoft is actually advertising something Xbox! I’m in their home country (USA), and this is the first advert I have seen this generation.
The game looks absolutely incredible. Can't wait to dive in, and Obsidian almost always hit the nail on the head. This is gunna be pretty special imo.
If its 60fps or at least supports 40 via VRR, I am Playing this day 1.
@Banjo- fr, you said nothing about the ftc 😂
@Millionski
Rumours about its 60fps in series x.
And if that was, would they not come out with it as it’s a massive positive.
