Family-friendly MMO Wizard101 was announced for consoles back in August 2024, including Xbox One & Series X|S - and in a new chat on Discord, a member of the development team has explained why Kingisle Entertainment is skipping a Game Pass launch, at least for now.
Basically, the studio behind Wizard101 believes that Microsoft's subscription service "is a double-edge sword" - because it gives teams "a lot of exposure, but potentially could massively eat into your profits".
Following on from giving their reasons behind this Game Pass developer dilemma, the Kingisle rep added that the base version of Wizard101 will be free-to-play on Xbox anyway - which also gives the team less of a reason to include a premium version on the subscription service.
At the time of posting, Wizard101 doesn't have a release date on console just yet, but we'd expect the MMORPG to arrive on the platform sometime this year. Just don't expect an Xbox Game Pass release, given this fresh Discord explanation from the developer.

It makes sense it wouldn't be on Game Pass since it's free-to-play already. I messed around with this game every now and then it's a pretty decent game to kill some time with. I think it'll do well on the Xbox, especially with parents who are looking for games for their kids.
Kind of irrelevant to some extent given it’s a free to play family friendly mmo…
Can't imagine many people asked if a game like this was coming to Gamepass.
Yeah I'm not even sure this would be a good fit for the service anyway, but either way, I hope them ever success.
Wizard101? That’s a name I haven’t heard since before I was a pre-teen, almost 15 years ago at this point. (Just a few years before I started using NLife, too, heh.)
Time to put me in assisted living with the other “Unc status” folks, I guess. 😂
Ahhh. Too bad. Such petty excuses, when reported on platforms such as this, create plenty of non-players due to bad faith. Will be skipping thos on principle. Their loss.
