Update []: It seems this discount is no longer available for most players, suggesting that it definitely was a glitch (as expected!) and not an intended freebie for Xbox fans. It remains to be seen what Xbox will do next - there's every chance the game's license will be revoked for anyone who claimed it at 100% off.
Original Story: Earlier this week, we highlighted a fantastic Alan Wake 2 deal that bundled in Alan Wake Remastered as a free bonus game - and now Xbox users appear to have found a glitch with the system that allows them to claim the remaster without making a purchase at all.
Thanks to Alan Wake 2's inclusion with Free Play Days this week, folks are finding that you can claim the free copy of Alan Wake Remastered via its free trial. Basically, you add the trial to your account through the Alan Wake 2 store page, head on over to Alan Wake Remastered on the Xbox Store, and the latter should be totally free to claim.
Here's the example image that alerted us to this earlier today:

Now, we assume this isn't supposed to be happening - Xbox's intention here was likely to give Alan Wake Remastered away to new players who purchase the full version of Alan Wake 2 in the Lunar New Year sale. Therefore, this free access to the first Alan Wake could be revoked at a later time, but we aren't sure on that right now.
In the meantime though, this all appears to still be live at the time of posting, with fans claiming to be getting this 'free' Alan Wake deal right now on the Xbox Store. We'll keep a close eye on this one to see if this is intentional or not, and whether Xbox users get to keep their free copies of Alan Wake Remastered.
Has anyone else been able to claim this deal? Talk to us about your findings down below.

Looks like it's fixed
Worked for me via the web store on my phone
Ah they'll probably recall the whole thing but I'll grab it just in case lol.
Dang this will probably be fixed by the time I get home.
@Kaloudz This has actually happened before and they only patch it, if you redeem it they won’t remove it from your library unlike Sony which 100% does every time some bug like this happens.
@Kieduss You can do it from the website
@abe_hikura I've just this second done it. Make sure to go to "Alan Wake 2" on the Xbox Store (I did mine via website) and claim the Free Trial. Once you have done that, visit Alan Wake Remastered and it should be 100% off.
Thanks @IOI I wouldn't have bothered looking again if it wasn't for that heads up lol!
@Kaloudz I just tried this over my phone and it worked! I've never played, nor am I super interested, but hey, free is free.
I was able to cash in. Had to read the article carefully, but it worked. We'll see if it sticks...
Another fine addition to my collection. I love how stupid computers are 😌
Thanks for the tip, free stuff always fun
Thank you! Worked for me up here in Canada! Still "Just for You" free due to a recent purchase (Alan Wake II trial). Still free at 1pm!
@Kaloudz It might be because I already own AW2
@abe_hikura Ah yeah, that'll do it. That sucks!
@FarmDog08 Lmao! Exactly the same as me. Will probably never pay it (the OG version didn't interest me) but, free is freeeeee!
Worked on my phone. Downloaded the "free trial" of Alan Wake 2 then scrolled down and saw Alan Wake Remastered 100% off. Now I own it, never played it before but something that I've always wanted to play.
It's happened before. It doesn't matter whether you rush out and grab it now or not. MS has historically stripped the license of the users who got something for free/reduced when they shouldn't have. The next time you start the game it'll fail because your license is gone.
It is a pretty trivial query for them. Get all the users who have the game but haven't either previously purchased it or who didn't buy the bundle during the sale. Then revoke the licenses. If this hasn't already been done then I suspect within a couple of days. So play quick if you got it for free.
Doesn't work. Alan Wake just comes up as $39.99. Ah well.
As of 2:45 EST its not working
Worked, got the free deal, thanks!
@Kilamanjaro I read that with a Homer Simpson voice in my head
I got it earlier through the browser while at work. Now I'm home installing the game to get a taste of it. Hope they don't revoke my license so quickly!
@CoolDadTx yeh same as they did with Forza and a few other games it won't be long before they catch up unfortunately
Is this working yet?
Unfortunately i didn't got this because i was late.
@lechugajr lol it was a General Grievous reference but Homer Simpson works quite well for the second part 😂 "hehe suckers" Homer smirks and rubs hands*
A must have ! great discount
