SEGA has announced it will be delisting multiple retro titles including the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive Classics collection from the Xbox digital store.
These titles will be removed from Xbox's storefront on December 6th, 2024. SEGA will also be delisting multiple games from Steam, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation platforms on the same date.
In a Q&A on its support page, Sega mentions how these games will remain "available in your library" to download and play after they've been removed from the storefront, but will no longer be available for purchase.
"Select games and bundles will be delisted from virtual stores, becoming unavailable for new purchases. Your owned games will still be available in your library."
Here are the SEGA titles being delisted on Xbox next month:
Altered Beast |
Crazy Taxi |
SEGA® Genesis Classics™ (Mega Drive Classics) |
Golden Axe |
Monster World |
NiGHTS into Dreams |
SEGA Bass Fishing |
Shinobi |
Sonic the Fighters |
Streets of Rage |
SVC: ToeJam & Earl |
Virtua Fighter 2 |
In some related news, SEGA earlier this week spoke about reviving its classics - including the announcement it was working on a new Virtua Fighter game. This game will join other revival projects like Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio.
Are you planning to buy any of these before they're delisted on Xbox? Let us know down in the comments.

Why would they do this?
Whoa that's a lot of games. I wonder why? Shame. And not Nights into Dreams!
I think I have most of those, so no biggie.
Welp i will check and see if i am missing anything.
Perhaps they’re not getting the sales or maybe they’re going to bring out some Sega compilation with all these games included. Kinda like Rare Replay, Who knows?
Most likely they don't make sales anymore and they are delisting them so people will go crazy to buy them "before they are lost forever". That's why emulators should always exist for those money hungry companies.
Xbox is hit the worst here as things like that Streets of Rage collection is fantastic and Crazy Taxi is always good fun, even if not as good as the Dreamcast original
I'd highly recommend picking these up whilst you still can and can only hope this is leading to some new collections from Sega
I'm not seeing a direct link to the Xbox store on the PureXbox page of the linked game "SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive Classics collection".
That would be a nice feature of those pages, especially if PX could get an affiliate kickback on flow through purchase.
@TheGiraffe they're probably gearing up to announce more re-releases.
Removing Sega Mega Drive Classics can only mean that another compilation is coming. The other titles will probably be replaced by remastered versions. I got everything I wanted just in case, including Jet Set Radio that was delisted because of the licenced soundtrack.
Hopefully we will get a sale on these over the next 4 weeks before they disappear.
If this ultimately means there might be a remastered version of Nights coming, I’m all in on it.
I own most of these but this is still weird.
Yeah, de-listing so they can re-list as a new package. Nothing is lost, these games are readily available in one form or another. In fact I think I have all of them on a Switch cartridge.
EDIT: Oh, hah. That's the one they're de-listing. I thought it was the old ones from the 360. Carry on, nothing to see here lol.
Woah! Real shame, I have some of these but might have to snap a few others up. Why Sega? Unless a compilation is coming, but why not announce that if this is the case?
Gotta be a new Collection coming up if they're delisting this many specifically old things.
@NEStalgia That was my first thought too, and removing a gem like Nights seems especially weird.
Then I thought maybe it does mean a remaster is coming. But obviously, remasters aren't always perfect, some key aspects are changed from the original, not necessarily for the better.
The originals should always be available.
Ok, weirdly specific removals... They are removing all of these but not Fighting Vipers and Virtual-On?
Virtual On is fine?
Really wish they would put the Sega Genesis Collection on sale one more time before it's delisted.
I figured the classics collection would get delisted eventually. Too much good stuff in one place that they want to be able to sell again.
I have it on PS and Switch as well, but I wouldn’t mind getting it on Xbox too if they put it on sale again before it delists.
Otherwise they can go fk themselves.
Yeah, this smells of new re-releases. Kind of how they delisted the 360-version of Sonic Generations a couple of months before the remaster dropped.
Delistings are always sad to see, but I think I have all of these already.
@BadBoyBule My guess is that all of these delisted games have re-releases coming in the near future, while Fighting Vipers and Virtual-On doesn’t.
Sega must be working on new collections for the Dreamcast, Saturn, and Genesis.
@BadBoyBule that would be illegal sir
This is exactly how games should be delisted. Sega has announced about a month ahead of time that these games will be delisted to give people their final chance to buy the game before they are gone for good. Many other developers just suddenly delisted games without any warning and then you can't buy the game again permanently. More companies should follow Sega's example to announce the delisting ahead of time.
