It's no secret that SEGA is planning to dip back into its classics catalogue in the coming years - the company has already confirmed new Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio games recently. Well, now you can officially add Virtua Fighter to that list - another entry in the series is currently "being developed" at SEGA HQ.
This new information comes from a recent VGC interview with SEGA's Justin Scarpone, who talked about the team developing new titles that "fall into that legacy bucket". Here's this section of the interview, and what he had to say about Virtua Fighter:
"So we have a suite of titles in development right now that fall into that legacy bucket, which we announced last year at The Game Awards; Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and we have another Virtua Fighter being developed. And so all that’s very exciting."
Around about a year ago, rumours of a new Virtua Fighter game were doing the rounds ahead of The Game Awards 2023 - with SEGA itself also saying the team was "evaluating" another entry in the series. Well, it looks like those evaluations have now progressed to active development over at the Japanese company.
We'll keep our eyes and ears on high alert for more news on Virtua Fighter, but it's looking like longtime fans can soon expect another entry in this series - after almost two decades since the last proper mainline release.
Excited for this, Virtua Fighter fans? Tell us what you're thinking down below.

Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi and Virtua Fighter, on top of back to form 2D and 3D Sonic games... Sega fans can't complain!
It's about time.
Plenty to look forward to from SEGA.
Oooh yes! This was one of my favorite fighting games! Cant wait.
Come on SEGA, get back in the console game!
The console scene has never been the same since you called it a day.
Folks would be queuing up for a new console.
God, Sega keeps cooking lately
THANK HYLIA! That is glorious news! Just give me a date SEGA.
A new Virtua Fighter should've been in development the second the big 3 in the Fighting Game Genre were announced to be coming out around the same time. By the time it came out, they'd still be focusing on DLC.
Did the original have a character using a drunken style? When this franchise is mentioned all that comes to mind is an old man with a liquor jug on his thumb. Don't know if I have that right though. But, either way good for them and fans of the series!
@RentedPanda You are thinking Shun Di. Yes he uses Drunken Boxing.
I'm a former Sega fanatic...Sega...hasn't been the same since the Sony monopoly operation, to hold third parties hostage...
I'll still buy a Sega game here and there...Sonic X Shadow, the odd Sonic game on Switch, Company of Heroes is published by Sega...but let's be honest, theyre a shell of their former selves.
Besides the Sonic games, they've slipped back into a middle of the pack publisher...360 hit, HUGE strategy boom, its now my favorite genre, and I kinda moved on from Sega...
If they can get back to the Virtua Fighters, Panzer Dragoons, Virtual Ons, Sega Rally...it still wouldn't pull me away from strategy 😂...but I would get back on board with Sega in a heartbeat.
I've always wanted to try my hand at Virtua Fighter. Is it more "learnable" than Tekken?
I would say VF is easier to get into. Less weird button/stick inputs.
Idk last one was hyped and died on arrival
