Almost five years ago now, Rare announced Everwild, its next major title after the arrival of Sea Of Thieves. To this day, we've not really been given a detailed look at the game, but a new rumour suggests that development on the title is now progressing well at the British studio.
Coming from Windows Central's Jez Corden, the Xbox-focused reporter says he's "heard that development on Everwild is going well" and that "we should be seeing" the game reappear at some point in the future.
Here's a short clip of that chat, pulled from a recent podcast episode:
This drop of information arrived at the end of that recent podcast, where Jez & co. took on questions submitted by the community. Remember, this is just rumoured information right now though - and we don't have any recent updates from Rare or Microsoft on the game.
In fact, the last time we heard much of anything official on this one was almost two years ago, when a Rare employee posted about "a busy few weeks" for the Everwild team. In late 2023, we also spotted some job listings for the title online - but a proper new update on the game's progress would be very welcome at this stage.
Still excited for Everwild, PXers? Tell us your thoughts on this tidbit of info down below.

I'd love to see more of this game. Still looks like a long wait though... hope its worth it!
This has seemingly been rebooted so many times, it started development in 2014, so I’ll believe it when I see it.
Always seemed like madness to announce a game based off an art style rather than a decent gameplay loop. But I hope they find their way and eventually deliver a great game.
I want to be to excited for it. It has a cool look and it's Rare but with abosultely nothing to go on. this could easily be a Viva Pinate successor or some grand adventure...
It'll still launch before Beyond Good and Evil 2
Development is going well.
WELL SLOW!!!
@acmiguens and half life 3 and that one really hurts to say that
Would be nice to see what the game is even about, it was announced like 6 years ago!
Well, Rare's studio lead just got promoted to head of XGS, so there's always time for the new Rare studio lead to reboot the whole thing again.
An interim got back from vacation and the game is now in full production again
I don't mind the development going slow. It is better than release completely broken like some games do.
Let's Rare take their time and hopefully we'll have a great game.
I hope so, but this is classic Jez Corden nothing burger.
@fbnaulin I heard, but I don't know, but it's possible, and it's been discussed, but they might have ditched... If they don't change their plans, I assure you that...
@fbnaulin i dont know, he seems to be pretty reliable to me. especially when it comes to MS internal affairs.
