Polish developer Bloober Team dropped a bombshell at Xbox's Partner Preview event last week with the reveal of Cronos: The New Dawn - and it sounds like the upcoming Xbox title is a bit of a new dawn itself for the Silent Hill 2 studio.
In a new interview, the developer told GameSpot that it has "made some sh**ty games before" but it has now "evolved" - after the partnership with Konami. The team says that it will take the learnings from Silent Hill 2 into crafting its upcoming games, including Cronos: The New Dawn.
"It was tough for those couple of years before [Silent Hill 2's] release,
They made it. We made it. Bloober made it. And now, it's very good spirits inside. We want to show what we can do on our own, how we can evolve our ideas."
Cronos is coming to Xbox in 2025, and it sounds like a real treat for you horror fans out there. The studio is aiming to mix "Eastern European brutalism" with "retro-futurist technology" in its new IP, which is now full steam ahead after the initial launch of Silent Hill 2 - which is hopefully coming to Xbox itself somewhere down the line.
We've enjoyed most of what Bloober has cooked up (Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, The Medium), but the Konami remake does look like a step up for the studio, and we're hoping it can carry that into Cronos: The New Dawn and beyond. The upcoming Xbox title is expected to launch sometime next year.

Man, I haven't tried their older games yet but that's not what I would want to hear. 😂
It certainly was the game that caught my attention in the showcase.
Honestly kinda rooting for bloober team. Another good game or two should probably be enough to shake their poor reputation.
I admire their confidence but I doubt the validity of the claim of no more "s**tty games". I don't think anyone can make that claim. For one, silent hill 2 was a direct remake of an all time classic game. Let's see them repeat this success with an original idea of their own. Plus, pretty much everyone eventually releases a dud and i expect they will have the same core issue that plagues even the best developers (take big risks and eventually one or two wont pan out or they play it too safe and it is deemed too samey to everything else.)
I hope they are correct, but I fear that statement may come back to haunt them! I hope not though...
I quite liked The Medium 😂 others said it was a ***** game though and now so are they 🤣
I prefer this real talk over corporate language.
Not gonna lie, most of their games aren't very good. They do have some interesting ideas but most of the time they fall flat, The Blair Witch being the best example of this. I think the only games I genuinely enjoyed were The Medium and Observer.
This is why I wasn't excited on them working on the SH2 remake but seeing the positive reception of it and how this game looks, I really hope they turn it around exploit the good ideas they have.
Honestly, it’s sort of low integrity to call their previous games crap when they had a hit by remaking someone else’s success.
No way they said that...
Its the most stupid thing I've read in a long time
Good job spreading bs
I thought The Medium was decent. I can see why Konami chose them
Well I'm glad they at least didn't try to downplay that fact. Bloober Team has been dire and anytime I've seen their name on anything it's been a guaranteed kiss of death. I don't even trust the reviews for the SH2 remake, that's how horrid I find their work. We'll see, though.
@Simplejohn They did say that. I guess you're not too big into reading articles on a text-only website? They quite literally link to the GameSpot article where they say it.
I’m not quite sure why they have that rep…. I’ve heard good things about most of the Layers of Fear series, good things about Medium, and good things about Observer. Maybe those were just the exceptions to the rule?
And isn’t Silent Hill 2 Remake doing good?
Either way I’m rooting for em, no reason to root for a dev to do bad! That just hurts us gamers in the end, so I say bring it on and show us what you can do! You got this
Edit - sometimes devs take time to find their spot and rhythm, I get that. I know I read an article recently about such a team that kept making meh games for a long while (years and years) before they finally hit their stride and gave us an amazing game. Though I can’t recall which studio and game currently, but it was def one of the ones that got a lot of attention for being waaaaay better than expected.
Their games weren’t terrible. I could appreciate what they were trying to do. They are a young team with some good ideas. I think they nail the atmosphere really well. Where they lack is usually the story and combat. I see potential in this team. They tend to crank out games faster than a lot of other companies, if they take a little more time with some of these games to focus on combat and get a good story, they could have some pretty good games.
@Fenbops I enjoyed Medium so much. One of the first games I played this gen. I knew I was in the minority to enjoy it but I didn't know it was this bad. lol.
