Every minute, we're getting closer to the huge Xbox Games Showcase 2024 taking place this Sunday, and as usual the rumours continue to flood in ahead of the big event. Today, we're highlighting one from GiantBomb's Jeff Grubb!
Grubb appeared on the latest edition of the Kinda Funny Gamescast, where he advised that the Xbox Showcase will last for about 2 hours (presumably including the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct) and feature around 30 games this year, including plenty that we've never heard of before:
"I'm not going to spoil anything, but the numbers I'm hearing is about 2 hours and 30 games, and at least a handful of those are games we've never heard of before."
As we mentioned in our predictions feature earlier this week, some of these games could include Gears 6 and DOOM: The Dark Ages, but we're assuming there will be a few that we hadn't anticipated ahead of time as well.
Whatever the case may be, we're definitely very excited for the Xbox Games Showcase this year, and you can watch the entire thing with us on Sunday if you want to - followed by some extensive coverage of everything that was revealed!
Got anything in mind in terms of surprises for this Sunday? Let us know your thoughts down below.

So..to recap
Will be there: Indiana Jones and the Golden Circle, Starfield Shattered Space, Avowed, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Probably will be there: Towerborne, ARA, Age of Mythology Retold, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred
Heavily hinted: Gears 6, Doom: The Dark Ages, Silksong, Dragon Age 4
Less heavily hinted: Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3, Assassin's Creed Shadows
That's 16 from 30
And another unannounced first-party games? Good lord.
If they announce a game as an Xbox exclusive I don't expect it be on PS5 in 12 months or ever. If this is their strategy then goodbye Xbox it won't matter what they show if everything can be played on PS5.
It's time they stopped with the mixed messages and be truthful for a change. I don't expect Phil to go into hiding after shutting down studios lost a lot of respect from me with the silence. Hopefully he retires after the showcase time for a change.
I try not to buy into the speculation and gossip, but it's hard not to get hyped with everything that's being mentioned. If they deliver 60% of this, then it's one of the best showcases Xbox have had in a very very long time.
Just give me Gears 6 please
Best news they can deliver for MFS 24 is that it supports smart delivery and I can replace this 248g behemoth of MFS.
@Kooky_Geezer I still think that Xbox will at least keep Single Player games 'Exclusive' (unless they are smaller games that don't shift Consoles/Game Pass) much the same way Sony seem to be doing.
The Only 'difference' is that Sony, at least so far, have 'refused' to sell ANY games unless really pressured to or lose a Licence (MLB), on Xbox Consoles. They are bringing their MP games day/date to 'another' platform (PC) but intend to keep SP games as 'Exclusive' to get people into their Console. Spider-Man or God of War isn't really selling PS5 now, its the newest game(s) and/or upcoming Exclusives.
Online multiplayer games will benefit by having the largest Community playing they can possibly attract - it helps for Matchmaking, for ping etc. With Cross-play too, friends/family can play together regardless of what Platforms they all own. It stops being about the 'Hardware' and more about the IP. They are not ALL Sony or MS fanboys, they are fans of CoD or Minecraft - games 'owned' by MS and 'contributing' to the overall strength and reach of a Microsoft owned IP's, their 'growth'.
You also get to play 'Xbox' games for 'Free' via Game Pass on Xbox but on Playstation, you have to buy to play.
Would timed Exclusives really make much difference over Permanent Exclusives? Sony certainly believes in Timed Exclusivity as they pay many Publishers for that - Deathloop and Ghostwire are examples. Not only that, they are releasing many of their own games now on PC, meaning they can be played on another 'Console' - SteamDeck - so not 'Console exclusive' either...
I’m hoping for a good set of release dates for games this year and first quarter of 2025.
I'm only excited for Black Ops 6. I thoroughly enjoyed V. The multiplayer was a blast.
@Kooky_Geezer to me it looks like the heads of MICROSOFT not xbox need to be fired. unless the abk deal was all phil's idea then fire him too.
I buy a lot of "indie" and smaller games, but I hope these unknowns are AAAs. That's usually most exciting to me.
I think I will go Xbox news dark until Sunday as I doubt any of these rumours will turn out to be true.
What an expert. There will be games at a games showcase but I won't tell you what they are.
My mate down the pub has the same information.
It’s crazy to me the amount of people complaining about exclusives instead of the fact that xbox is finally pushing out some good games/content.
Amazing, simply amazing!
Hopefully we hear something about Silksong. Fingers crossed for a shadow drop - we can dream can't we 😆
It should be a great show. Its hard not to be excited about xbox.
It sounds very promising to be honest. I have no issues with games going to PlayStation at some point because I have a Series X and PS5. But it would be nice to see Xbox really go all out to impress their core fan base and give them a reason to stick with them. And possibly entice those people who haven't upgraded from PS4/Xbox One. Especially as Sony's recent showing was so poor.
I love my Xbox because of the UI, controller and backwards compatible games that I still play to this day. I buy all multiplatform games on Xbox because of this. My PlayStation and Switch are pretty much first party machines.
Certainly looking like the majority of games will be going to playstation ...so Xbox finally starting to get a line up of games that looks killer ....and they decide to go multiplatform....I have a ps5 but I prefer Xbox ...but what's the point in remaining with Xbox next gen if I can get all there games plus the ps exclusives in just one place aka ps6
I jumped ship to PS once they started porting their exclusives but give us banjo and I promise I’ll boot the series x back up
It's sad, and I'm really showing my age, that every time read Jeff Grubb's name, immediately go back decades and think of Jeff Grubb Dungeons and Dragons player guides, like Manual of the Planes.
@BBB ESO just launched an expansion. So I doubt game will be at showcase
@rustyduck microsoft's on fire the last few years why would they fire Nadella? Abk will generate a hell of profits
I want no big Xbox exclusives on PlayStation ever. Just like Sony will never let their owned IPs on a competitors console as they need their hardware to sell. Rightfully so. Competition is a good thing for this gaming hobby. I sincerely hope that Xbox keeps all its 1st party games on its platform and turns this generation around! I say this as both console owners.
