Ill tune in to Summer Game Fest and Xbox Showcase. Always enjoyed watching these live rather than reading a summary afterwords. The missus usually watch with me trying to guess which games Ill be interested in. Good times.
Ubisoft Forward let's gooooo. So hyped to see gameplay of Shadows!
No other game hypes as much.
Maybe we'll see something about The Sands of Time remake.
Ubi has a really good chance of reviving the series. The Lost Crown was nothing short of amazing.
I keep my expectations in check for most showcases, but I have a good feeling about the Xbox showcase this year. I think a lot of mistakes have been made at Xbox, but things finally look like they are set in place to deliver consistent first party content on a regular basis. I think this year’s showcase will be the first one to really show that. I am expecting a great show and hoping Phil Spencer has a true heart to heart with his IGN interviewer. Let the fans know what is up. Quit being so damn quiet. Either lead or step aside so someone else can.
Hexen coming to Gamepass confirmed by Phil's shirt.
Always my favourite time of the year, and I never fail to tell my son (whose birthday is on the third of June) that the Xbox showcase is my favourite day of the month. 😂
Really looking forward to most of the showcases, but the ones I'm particularly keen to see are the Xbox one (obviously!), Ubisoft and Digital Devolver, who never fail to put some silly fun into their showcases.
June is always Christmas for us gamers, and I for one cannot wait!
For me the CoD graphic shows up under the Wholesome Games description for some reason, which made me chuckle. Not that CoD is that out there, just not what I would expect as the Wholesome Games poster child.
I look forward to reading recaps of all of these on this site! Plus, there is usually some xbox relevant cross platform news at Nintendo and Sony shows
Devolver's show still gives me nightmares after last year, but I'd still rather have Volvy replace Geoff in the SGF show. It's still less nightmare inducing.
It'll be interesting to see Phil step out and make a new hostage video. We need someone to translate the morse code he blinks with his eyes to know of Satyta plans on killing anything.
“Yea we heard you “ “ I’ve tested the game “ and can’t forget about “ the team is working extremely hard “
@RIghteousNixon would be nice if he stepped aside and Xbox got a younger mind / energy to lead the brand . Eventually like everything else his age will be out of touch with trends and the younger generation.
is phil still working at ms?
Great gaming time of the year.
Still prefer the old E3 & gamescom live stage show days but alas they have been and gone.
Truly the best time of the hype cycle! I always trust in Phil and he has always delivered… except he has been a bit quiet lately… but we shall see him or his AI rendition soon….
I miss E3 but studios having there own moment in the sun to shine is not a bad thing...
@AlwaysPlaying "but we shall see him or his AI rendition soon…."
LOL! This is dishearteningly true with MS! And the real Phil talks in the same circles the AI does these days, so we'd never know the difference.
"I understand you'd like to know about Xbox's hardware strategy going forward. I have great news for you! I can talk to you today about Xbox's hardware strategy going forward. The Xbox 360 was the most popular console in 2010. It was succeeded by the Xbox One X in 2017. In the future Xbox will have the latest games brought to you in the easiest to use format and some games will also be on PlayStation. Snapshot is a revolutionary new feature that will help to predict what you will do next on Copilot + enabled laptops. "
-Phil, or PhilAI? You decide.
@TheSimulator
I am actually a big fan of Phil’s. He was put in a tough tough position when he took over at Xbox and he did an admirable job imo. His approach to BC is 2nd to none and Xbox is now the best console on the market in that regard. He recognized Xbox’s lack of first party and went out and acquired a ton of quality studios. He got Game Pass up and running, which I am a HUGE fan of. All in all, I think he has done a lot of great things while leading the company, but the way he has handled things the last 3-4 months is extremely troubling and all the good he has done doesn’t give him a free pass right now, at least not in my book.
If he can’t be straight and honest about the direction of Xbox, then Xbox needs someone in charge who is willing to be. I still have a lot of respect for the man, but he is doing a lousy job as of late and it very well might be time for him to step aside.
@RIghteousNixon To be fair, I think the whole problem with Xbox right now is that it isn't Phil leading it at all, he's an administrator to carry out orders from above and nothing more. I don't think you can follow Phil's leadership since 2015 up to present and come to the conclusion the same person is running the show. His silence of late attests to that. That's why the interview will be really interesting. It'll be simple enough to tell if he's the same Phil or if he's now "CFO Barbie and Carbon Copy Corporate Action item Ken" Phil.
Spot on, @NEStalgia. I bet Phil Spencer is actually dreading the not-E3 period. He will have to step out from the shadows, and do his best to sell a line that he probably disagrees with. His absence, since prior to the Tango announcement, speaks volumes, in my opinion. He's not on board with what's going on, and just cannot face the public right now. It's a pretty sad state of affairs, truth be told.
His body language and every line he utters will be very interesting, though I fully expect to get many answers that completely dodge the questions! His ability to give answers that don't actually answer the question posed it masterful. Once he leaves Xbox (which I think is pretty imminent), I think he should become a politician as that is exactly what they do; waffle and make you think they have answered the question, only for you to realise too late that they didn't answer it at all. Starfield isn't one of the first four, anyone? 😉
@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah, and some will say that it's not that he's in disagreement and hiding but just that XB isn't in a position to be as free talking as they used to be anymore, but that's kind of saying the same thing. Phil's leadership style is to be candid, and he's not going to choose to not be candid by going into radio silent exile suddenly unless he's being forced to do so from above, which goes right back to him not being the leadership.
The only point I disagree with is his masterful politician level dodging. He may be good at spinning a circular misdirecting answer, but I don't think he's very good at dodging at all. He looks visibly uncomfortable and seems to be grasping for ways to answer in circles and misdirect, which leads to a sort of stammering. He has a terrible poker face, and you can tell when he's bluffing. Politicians/lawyers could with a straight face convince you Charles Manson is not a murderer and look like they completely comfortably believe it. Same with Bond. She was painfully visibly uncomfortable with the facade in that Bloomberg interview. Phil and Sarah are among a tiny handful of business leaders that show a shred of integrity, so naturally they're being sidelined by the true politician, Nadella. That guy will lie straight to your face like it's obvious truth.
You are totally correct in your assessment of their demeanour, @NEStalgia. What I was really getting at was the non-answers he provides. I agree he seems uncomfortable when he's being less than candid, but he still manages to dodge the answer, however, because he does have integrity, he clearly does not like being so elusive. His continued absence though is most likely an instruction from above, because they too know that he likes to be friendly and informative, which is precisely what his bosses are trying to avoid right now.
Do you think he will be at the showcase, or will it be fronted by someone else? Someone that is able to believably sell the company line?
@NEStalgia oh my … I can’t tell the difference! Maybe he quit months ago and we have been played by PhilAI…. lol I will never be able to read his posts from now on and wonder…
@Fiendish-Beaver I think because the showcases are pre-recorded now it's fine, plus Even the last year or two they only brought Phil out at the end, last year for the atlus segment. So I think he'll make an appearance. January was awkward with nadella doing it... No idea why. I think it's mostly anchored by Bond since she's really "Xbox" now, with guest appearance by Darth Booty since he's the face of studios. I think Phil has a brief word at the end. But the real show will be that hostage video after the show.
@BIG3 my wife and I do the samething.
Agreed, @NEStalgia. It'll probably be worth calling in S.W.A.T when the after the showcase show begins.
Don't worry Phi, we'll save you... 🤣
Way too many once again. Most end up being watered down and forgettable for the most part. Hopefully there will be some nice surprises sprinkled in
