Most of the chatter in the Xbox community continues to be centered around this week's rumours about exclusives potentially going to other platforms, and notably, it's even attracted the attention of Xbox legend Major Nelson.
Nelson, who's real name is Larry Hryb, took to Twitter last night to highlight his curiosity about the whole situation, as well as warning Xbox fans to avoid falling for clickbait and trolls - social media is full of wild claims at the moment!
For those who aren't aware, Major Nelson was essentially the face of Xbox for over a decade, appearing regularly in promotional footage while also hosting the Official Xbox Podcast, and was beloved by many Xbox fans during his tenure. He eventually departed Microsoft in 2023 after over 20 years at the company.
We're obviously still waiting on an official answer from Microsoft about the "exclusives" situation going forward, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer has advised we'll be hearing something next week. That's all we know for now!

Play games... Live your life... Amen to that 😊👍
@Kaloudz yes ,he annoyed me also ,not a truer word was spoken though , does it really matter what ms do , its not like its the end of gaming or anything , we still get to play some awesome games, no matter your chosen platform/platforms
Funny if next week, Phil’s message about the whole thing is the same, “I hope we find out soon” 🤣
@Kaloudz
'Cast the trolls to the side, play your games, and just enjoy what you have'
Wise words for now, and indeed for after the news has come and been digested. Enjoy your games wherever they are played.
We all know MS have a strategy that's much bigger than a hardware platform, so if if they decide to make some huge changes, even if that is to become a multi format 3rd party publisher, then so be it. Game pass is not likely to go away and Xbox will always be the native home of GP.
@K1LLEGAL I have doubts about Phil announcing anything. It's a Microsoft event and not an Xbox event, and I'd expect it will be delivered by Satya Nadella.
@Titntin yup I agree it’s very possible it is Satya. But I think Phil might step up and deliver it. Though I don’t think he supports it all, and I think he could leave his role especially as it’s now been 10 years with him at the top. He may even leave as part of the update.
@Titntin is this event streamed ? or will it just be a case of waiting for some announcement ?
@Shushibda Sorry mate, I really don't know. Its an event that normally doesn't interest the game community. I had a quick look on google and didnt get an answer
@Shushibda @Titntin There's no word on this yet. All we know is what Phil Spencer said in his tweet the other day:
https://www.purexbox.com/news/2024/02/phil-spencer-addresses-xbox-speculation-ahead-of-business-update-event
I don't think anyone is throwing themselves off bridges over this but it's easy to see how people would be upset aswell especially with a big digital library built over years gaming will go on no doubt but if all the rumours are true it does suck for people who have spent a lot of money on digital purchases over the years because gamepass alone won't keep everyone on Xbox when you can play everything on released on Xbox on playstation anyway with there exclusives on top hopefully it's on as bad as its seeming to be so far
If it's being delivered by the higher-ups, then Phil is already out the door.
I'm 99% certain that it'll be delivered by Phil, I've seen the rumours and they're basically just people thinking because it's a "business update" it'll be by Microsoft.
In reality, in MS big news is often delivered by the relevant VP - with maybe Satya dropping in / having a video at the end to give a reassuring presence.
Man just talk about that haptic feedback controller lol
@Titntin Is it a Microsoft event? Where was that confirmed? I have read the rumours but could not find anything official, and just presumed that was people guessing/rationalising it in their minds.
If it is MS going over the heads of Xbox, surely we will see resignations from Xbox leadership next week.
Next week should be interesting.
@Sakai You are right to question it. There is so much 'noise' around this announcement at this point that it's impossible to confirm on the net, with many calling it an Xbox event and others calling it a Microsoft event. I did read a very persuasive piece stating that it would be run by Microsoft corp, which seemed valid to me at the time, but I'm unable to locate that piece now, and for all I know that was just idle speculation too.
I dont think its a huge stretch to imagine that these changes, should they be happening, will be happening against Phils wishes and dictated by the needs of the shareholders and those running the corporation as a whole.
Whilst I'm not signed up to the 'cult of Phil' I don't believe he will have maneuvered the brand to be so well positioned only to see the branding damaged and many of his prior statements rendered untruthful.
I'm afraid my assertion that this will be Microsft led and not Xbox led, has to be labelled speculation too.
@Sifi You are aware that most punters could not give a fig whether a game is from 1st or 3rd party aren't you? There are tons of Sony exclusives (games you can only play on a PS) and just in the next few months I'm looking forward to playing some. The new FF game looks like a GOTY contender already, and I'm excited to play Stella Blade.
But what has any of this to do with the subject under discussion? This is a far bigger discussion than childish chest beating over whether you prefer a blue or green toy?
This could change the course of gaming, for better or worse, in a way that transcends ridiculous brand loyalties.
@Titntin thanks for clarifying, as you say it's been increasingly difficult to distinguish fact from fiction in all of this. But who knows you could be right!
This has been one of the most frustrating things in the whole discussion. I wish more people would understand this and see the bigger picture
I always admired having an account like his with all the badges he has on his profile, I've only got the gold badge , the tier 2 ambassador and for being subscribed for 12 years (currently), it would be cool to have them all 🤓
If Microsoft gives games to other consoles there is clearly NO reason to own a XBOX. If people stop owning XBOXs, 3rd parties wont publish games on it. So... Microsoft loses a ton of money. Cant understand the "hidden message" of Microsoft Strategy
@Titntin I've never really liked nadella. He ruined windows phone (which was awesome product) and is all about wanting to turn Microsoft into cloud only company. He's been doing this for almost a decade now. The guy even turned Office into a cloud subscription instead of something you could just straight up buy the newest version. And now he wants to bring thousands of AI jobs to India.
The guy is basically Dyson that created Skynet in terminator movie.
@eire-shabba The digital library fiasco would never be an issue in a world with everything still being physical media.
Dang, I was going to throw out my Xbox!
Kidding, I plan on buying them as long as they keep selling them.
@Sifi Still more the Xbox buddy
@GuyinPA75 It's to late for that now
He’ll be mighty glad he isn’t having to deal with the community this week! Wise words as ever Larry. Play games have fun.
I still think it's about Activision Blizzard. They won't make them exclusive because they will make more money if they are still multiplatform.
I liked Larry, I miss him on the official podcast, he's right though we just have to sit tight and play games until the official announcement.
Anyone remember his videos with Trixie360?
@Valkyrian Yup
