One of the biggest releases of this week was the massive Starfield update for Xbox Series X and Series S (along with PC), and the good news is that overall, most players seem to be really impressed with what Bethesda has delivered.
In particular, we're seeing a lot of praise for the ability to customise gameplay in a variety of ways following the new update, with all sorts of weird and wacky combinations being cooked up by the Starfield community.
Of course, another big part of this update is the ability to access Starfield at 60FPS on Xbox Series X (along with a few other FPS options for VRR displays), and despite a few occasional hiccups, this seems to be going down well, too.
There's plenty of other great stuff to dig into in this Starfield update, so don't forget to check out the full patch notes if you're interested, and we're keen to hear your thoughts about it down in the comments section below.

I finally finished the game yesterday and no crashes during the 4 hours i played definitely seems more stable just a shame Series s didn't get the 60fps option.
Absolutely loving it. I dropped off the launch game after c11hrs as my eyes now have trouble with 30fps. This update is transformative, way better than I dared hope for - running it at 60fps at 120hz with VRR. Yes, there’s some frame rate hitches, but by and large it runs very smooth, and I’m looking forward to exploring more of the planets and storylines.
i set it up to where i kill enemies easily but if im not careful im easily killed. can't wait for the dlc and mods. hope mods bring all sorts of random locations for fire fights.
I jumped back in for the first time in about 6 months. It definitely runs and feels a lot smoother.
@BBB I downloaded it to try it out but I wasn't sure if I could stomach the massive game that it is before the release of the expansion. And I can't.
The update seems great and whilst I really enjoyed starfield, I'm also going to wait for the expansion, to really sink some hours into it.
Absolutely loving it!
👍😁👍
It’s a great update and the 60 fps does highlight how much improved the gunplay is in this game. This and the Diablo 4 update would have been big Xbox W’s if Xbox hadn’t pulled an Xbox. 1 step forward and 2 steps back is Phil’s internal memo I swear.
I bought into the hype and downloaded it again. It looks and plays much better in 60fps but it only took 30 minutes (including at least 10 fast travel loading screens) before I remembered why I dropped off it in the first place. Might give it another go when DLC drops or they add Mod support on console.
So this is that actual date the game should have been released. Good to see they've made improvements. Would have like it to launch like this. Now I'll go back wondering what the hell I was doing last time I played.
I’m just waiting on Shattered Space.
It is a very nice update. Doesn't make or break the game at all. Honestly everything that should been there at launch. No excuses. So it's not like I'm giving Bugthesda kudos or anything.
Plus, since I'm a mortal, not some elite optical cyborg, was very much able to play the game as was at 30 FPS, without my eyes melting and head exploding from headaches.
@BBB lol you should keep going man. Some guy on YT did something like NG+ 12. On his last run when he entered the lodge for the first time, he met an earlier version of himself who was already halfway through the meeting 😆.
His other 'npc' self even interacted with him and was like ... 'wtf you doing here?'. lol
I'm not great at math, but I think if I played 200+ hours at 30fps, I need to play 400+ hours at 60fps.
I love the new update! It didn't bring me back to the game because I never really left. Been playing it off and on throughout the months as I have time.
While the 60fps is great (my TV does have VRR) I do experience a lot more drops in frames. It doesn't really bother me, but I can see why Todd Howard was pushing the 30 fps initially. However, the 40 fps mode from the outset I think should have been there as a compromise.
@IGN_Commenter
It would be half the time to 'see' the same number of frames at 60FPS. So half, only 100h.
The update just has basic features that should have been present when the game was initially publicly released in Sep 2023. Why would we praise gameplay settings and maps and 60FPS, this is all just basic stuff. They still don't have basic land vehicles in this future game, or phones, or proper significant variety in procedural gen 'exploration' tiles/outposts.
I've been playing at 40fps with visuals on and my son thought I was playing at 60fps. I think all games should have a 40 fps option. The maps are very detailed they put alot of thought and effort into this uodate.
The surface maps are great. I played some of it last night and completed some missions that were a bit more obtuse prior to the update.
A fantastic update indeed!!
In the future this game will be seen in the same revised positive light Cyberpunk is now. The continued updates and the upcoming expansion will show this is another great Bethesda title.
@BleedingDreamer The 40FPS option for those with 120Hz VRR Tv's is a great option that should become standard for any game that has issues hitting the standard 60fps.
@Beckerjr @Beckerjr Nice optimism, but if Bethesda doesn't put out a DLC that's widely loved with a MAJOR overhaul of basic Game systems that'll simply not happen.
This game has so so so many half assed systems, horrendous game design and world building it would take years to fix.
I hope your right, really do
I would like to, but I cannot. Not right now.
I move house in about two weeks. So everything is boxed up.
I know that I will undoubtedly have a lot to do, once the move is finished - but I will definitely restart Starfield once I get the chance.
Or, more likely, start over from the beginning. Again.
I look forward to jumping back in since I am going on Summer break soon! I haven't played it since September when I put in close to 100 hours while I was off work for a week with covid
Top class update.
