The Starfield team over at Bethesda has today shared a final end-of-year message to cap off 2023, and it includes a few teases about what's to come in 2024, along with details about how regular the game's updates will continue to be.
We've already heard about some of these Starfield features recently, including all-new ways of travelling which have not yet been disclosed. So, here's the list of Starfield features for 2024 that have been teased so far:
- City maps
- New ways to travel
- New ways to customize your ships
- New gameplay options to further adjust difficulty
- Official mod support with the launch of Creations
- Our first story expansion, Shattered Space
In addition to these, we'll be getting regular updates for Starfield across Xbox and PC roughly every six weeks throughout the year. This will start in February of 2024, which is when the next "major" update will arrive.
Apparently more info on all of these teased Starfield features will be coming in the near future, but in the meantime, the team has thanked the fans and teased that it "can't wait to continue this journey with you in the new year".
"As the year draws to a close, we want to say thank you from the whole team for all the time you've spent in Starfield and all the passion you have for the game."

One thing they really need to do is increase the number of random outposts and caves as it completely ruins the exploration when you come across the exact same interior time after time. The curated stuff is largely great but being so spread out means that going off the beaten path rarely rewards you with something interesting like previous Bethesda games
I really hope they do away with the temple puzzles. Horendous.
Okay i will wait till this update then buy it.
I look forward to seeing whats in store for starfield in the new year hopefully aliens of some sort would love it to be a bit more like mass effect
Not having city maps from the jump was a mistake. It’s crazy they’ve waited this long and only just announced it.
Mod support!
Can’t wait what the skyrim mod community can do with the new engine!
Have to admit after playing Witcher 3 this year, lack of city maps in Starfield never really bothered me as the cities were pretty small / easy to navigate, but it can't hurt.
Just hope the new story expansion involves the serpent religion / their home planet, that could be interesting. final DLC leading to a new all out war, that would be v cool...
Looking forward to seeing some mods
Can't wait to jump back in.
this game needs the "halo flood"
I appreciate the timeline, so I'll have a better idea of when to continue playing this game.
No 60fps for Series X still
@Kaloudz
3. Sexy mod
4. Nude mod
5. Tentacle mod
I think those will he 1., 2. And 3. though, knowing the internet.
But I’m mostly looking forward to the cool physics stuff people come up with. Maybe somebody will make a mod to include the functionality of ultra hand (from Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom) to this game. That would be very cool!
Nice. I hope "New ways to customize your ships" includes being able to choose where ladders go!
But mods and DLC is what I am really waiting for.
@Friendly Those first two already exist. And they'll never be on Xbox. 🤣
@InterceptorAlpha oh. I’m getting slow apparently
They just admitted making a half-broken game like CP77 was, needing:
City maps
New ways to travel
New ways to customize your ships
New gameplay options to further adjust difficulty
@Muddy will continue to avoid until then
@InterceptorAlpha skyrim use to have them on xbox ,they get removed pretty quickly.
@Cero me to lol. Just shoes the dog poop unoptimized engine. Do I want to interact with everything? No. 30fps makes my eyes bleed. Should have used ID tech
None of those will draw me back. Funny that they want more money.
@FarmDog08 I could not agree more.
It's like they took the ending of Id's RAGE and said, " I bet we can make something worse, crucial to the story and have them do it over and over"
Yes! Mod support!! Will be awhile until i get this on pc and I need to find a new place (nexus will not get my traffic) to get mods from. However I am excited all the same.
Burnt myself out on doing side quests ..and haven't touched it in about 2 months ...I hope i can find the time to return to it one day and finish it though ...just to much on my plate now for me to jump back in now
Whatever they give/announce/promise, at 30FPS it's just UNPLAYABLE!!
Can't wait to go back when the new stories unfold
A lot of stuff they can't fix i mean those companions are rancid with the exception of vasco, all of them hate everything you do, they pretty much have the same minds. Oh you want to bring a creature back from extinction? "Everyone disliked that", you should have picked the microbe option ensuring a peaceful creature is damned to be extinct forever. Join pirates? They all dislike it even the zealot who when you meet her she is murdering people...
The companions are insufferable bores and Bethesda can't fix that, they want to be mass effect so bad yet completely miss the mark and give you these husks who have clearly been tailor made for one dev just like the fallout 4 story was when they force you to play daddy/husband or mommy/wife. They had the chance to make open world mass effect and instead ended up making a PG13 goody two shoes game 😒 can't even pop someone's apace helmet in vacuum and have their head explode.
@SlySnake0407 What cyberpunk is right now is what it should have been on release and we should actually have more content, I don't get how people are going crazy acting like it's a no man's sky level turn around when it really isn't.
I might jump back into it next year at some point once I might have got over losing so much save game progress
Choices with consequences. The lack of any actual impact ruined this game for me. But that is hard.
I don't think there is much BGS can do to make me want to return to Starfield. The downward trajectory of this studio is real.
@FarmDog08 Such a chore those were, just blasting to the next set of moving dots....who in their right mind thought that was fun or interesting?
