For quite a while now we've known that one of Xbox's biggest goals with its Activision Blizzard acquisition is to grow in the mobile gaming space, and a new Call of Duty blog post shows us a little bit about why that goal is already coming into view.
As part of the Call of Duty franchise's 20-year celebrations, Activision has posted a retrospective on how the series has shaped up so far. It's also discussed what's next for Call of Duty - showcasing how popular its upcoming Warzone mobile spin-off is expected to be.
Months ahead if its launch, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile has more than 45 million users signed up and pre-registered to play the game when it hits mobile storefronts in Spring 2024. That's a huge influx of new players on what will be a brand-new Xbox first party launch early next year.
Here's a quick summary of what to expect from this upcoming Call of Duty mobile title, as per the blog post:
"Then a few months later in Spring 2024, prepare to join over 45 million fans who have already pre-registered Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile and prepare your squad to drop into two painstakingly-recreated Battle Royale maps – Verdansk and Rebirth Island – along with shared progression and Battle Pass integration with Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone, and an authentic multiplayer experience including maps like Shipment and Shoot House to complement Battle Royale."
Of course, the title will be free-to-play, but it will contain plenty of microtransactions for players to go at as the game grows over months and months. Let's hope that Microsoft reinvests that money into the broader gaming operations at Xbox!
Are you impressed by this number? Tempted to try out the mobile game yourself? Leave your thoughts down below.

It was a very clever move. Microsoft never needed to make CoD exclusive (as Sony was crying about) to bring in some big profit. And we're talking about just mobile this time.
You know...with the money Microsoft looks to gain from the mobile side alone, it could seriously make the next console an absolute beast of a machine, sell it for a moderate loss, and still make money in the gaming division. 🤣
I know that wouldn't happen, but the money rolling in (on top of the money it already has rolling in) will be insane.
I still have to pinch myself to remember Microsoft own all this stuff now and ABK.
I cant think of anything worse:
A: playing call of duty
&
B: playing a game on a phone!!
Put them together🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@GamingFan4Lyf it'd be no different than now. When you're worth trillions, any money made at that point is just drops in a bucket. Their problems are much more deeply rooted issues that's always been in the company for its history.
Business tactics, overbearing micromanagement of acquired companies that forces key employees that made the acquired company what it was away, and greed. Every huge corporation has that last issue, so we can't really knock MS for it, although the lengths they've gone to are definitely the corporate gold standards. But the micromanagement is what leads to dips in quality. They're too rich to be punished legitimately for their business tactics. Too many politicians and other key government officials around the world in their pockets. But none of that means anything when they prove they can't maintain quality without the people that made the acquired products they bought to produce and 'innovate'.
@Maddie47 You’re right and it’s even better with a controller. Plus you can also connect your phone to the TV. Far and beyond better than any recent CODs.
Grr why isnt this available in the Netherlands??? First MK onslaught and now also this game? Why?
But seriously, Microsoft is sitting on a gold mine here.
