It's time for another Starfield patch! Bethesda has rolled out update 1.7.36 for Starfield today, which appears to just be a small addition to the game - although it's particularly good news for anyone who's interested in FOV sliders!
Yep, FOV sliders are now available in the Settings menu as of today's Starfield update, and they apply regardless of whether you're playing in first or third-person. "Performance improvements" are also mentioned in the patch notes, although we haven't heard anything specific about these so we're assuming they're pretty minor.
Here's the full list of patch notes for Starfield update 1.7.36:
GENERAL
- FOV: Sliders are now available in Settings that allow players using first person or third person to adjust their FOV.
PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY
- [PC ONLY] Improved stability for Intel Arc GPUs.
- Various additional stability and performance improvements.
QUEST
- Echoes of the Past: Addressed an issue where tunneling creatures could pick a location that would prevent progression.

It's needs a massive patch not a little the game is a train wreck at the minute it's crashing every 3 hours for me and the ridiculous amount of bugs that need fixing as well is crazy that being said I'm still playing and enjoying it
The FOV is cool.
Game is stable. Haven’t crashed with near 80 hours in it.
Hasn't crashed for me either
@Dan1283 that's worrisome, I haven't had a single crash since release date. You should check your hardware.
I have played through the main missions and started new game plus while using quick resume from the start and I've had zero crashes. I have definitely not experienced any major bugs whatsoever. But if the updates fix things who can complain?
Did they fix HDR yet?
@Bl4ckb100d I'm playing it on the series s and it'd constantly crashing I've never had a problem with any other game before it's the crappy bethesda game engine causing the problems not sure about the series x or pc though maybe its just the series s??
@Dan1283 My nephew and my kid are playing on Series S with minimal issues. You should get your hardware checked.
@PopularCorpse it's definitely not my hardware it's starfield I don't want you think I'm trying argue I'm not I'm glad it's working for other people though 🙂
@Dan1283 I am having an issue with a single game on my Series X - The Darkness. It shows red pixels all over the screen.
I reported the issue and sadly, Microsoft couldn't replicate the problem on a Series X with the same firmware.
Not sure what's causing it but it's the only game that does it. Thankfully, I got a refund for it.
It makes me worried that there is some issue with my Series X that only crops up under very specific conditions. I guess if another game does it, I'll have to consider sending my Xbox for a repair/replacement - which would be sad because it's out of warranty.
@GamingFan4Lyf oh right ok I suppose all systems are different strange one that is I know quick resume causes a lot of problems with games I hope it's not your series x because they aren't cheap that's for sure
@Dan1283 No kidding.
I hope Microsoft wouldn't charge me full price for a replacement if it is a hardware issue - it's not as if it's my fault. The house is dusted regularly, the Series X is well ventilated, and no one smokes in the home.
I'm not stressing it too much at the moment - but it will be a worry over the long-term.
@GamingFan4Lyf 🤞
Mine crashes every time I go into laredo or tyhe trade authority in akila. Have a couple of broken quests where a door gets locked, such as the door upstairs in madame sauvage's is now locked and I can't get through to continue the neon strikers quest.
I can't visit the key, it crashes when docking. It's because i have a bugged 'steal from x' quest, it tries to unload the stolen gear then crashes, but I cant delete the gear or abandon the quest.
The galbank quests are broken because the ships are invisible. etc.
I want to see progress on stuff like this. It is going really slowly with really minor updates.
That's it after a month of feedback and data gathering? Very disappointing.
Only crashed twice for me in the 20 or so hours I put in. So that was ok overall.
Wake me up when we get performance mode at 60fps and the annoying slow loading somehow disappears. Plays like a game on old tech even though it’s not.
I am yet to have a crash on either series x or S. My second playthrough has been almost exclusively on the S.
@funkhouser nothing surprises me it's todd howard we are talking about here
@Dan1283 I'm playing on SS as well and i've put around 80 or 90 hours into it so far and i've had just 2 crashes. Have you thought about deleting and re-downloading it? Sometimes that can help with issues like this.
@Dan1283
Yeah I'm getting sick of broken games day 1
@DennisReynolds I'll give that a try thanks 👍
@SAHgamer it's a massive problem isn't it with the gaming industry at the minute it's disgusting and it's criminal really when people pay 60 or 70 for a game it's should be bug free no excuses at all and include all dlc
My only minor gripe (and it is more minor than it sounds) is the lack of mini-maps.
@funkhouser it is the 6th minor update so far. Thats a decent cadence. If they have something fixed then they might as well release the update instead of waiting for a bigger collection of fixes.
i had 1 crash in over 200 hrs in sf that i can remember. thank whoever for the fov slider! only wish i could order my companion to go there type of thing like outer worlds did....with 2 companions.
@Dan1283 I realise this is an XBox site, but are you playing the game on PC? I had installed a DLSS mod which I found out was causing my game to crash every hour or so.
Once I removed that, I never had another crash again.
@sweatyrich no I'm playing it on the series s
@BacklogBrad They have released 3 patches since release which have all been tiny with some minor fixes. They still haven't managed to add an eat button or any other meaningful addition to the game in over a month.
@Dan1283 I've had the same issue with Starfield crashing constantly on Series S i had the same problem with Fallout 4 it was even worse than Starfield.
@Dan1283
Yeah I'm new to gaming again and find it shockingly bad... just picking back up from years away when games used to arrive on discs in a polished state, lol!
Hope they fix the bug where you and your companion turns invisible. I get that all the time.
Besides that though it's surprisingly bug free for a Bethesda release. Though I'd still rate it a "C+" for bugs when past releases have been "D" or "F".
@Dan1283 Completely agree. Most are all old Bethesda bugs. As the save file gets older load times get longer, crashes become more frequent etc. e.g. my X360 200+ hour Skyrim save can take as long as 2 minutes to load and crashes more than a new file.
It's ONE of the many reasons many of us wanted them to build a new engine to get rid of much of the historic jank and issues that are all rearing their heads again. I feel anyone who said it was the "least buggy Bethesda game in history, only played the first 50 hours or so".
Regardless like you I am still playing, but the gloss has worn off for me, and I'm not as crazy about it as I was in the middle. All in all it has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs but it's a shame it didn't meet my expectations.
@funkhouser an eat button being called meaningful is a stretch. I think they are right to hold off on and focus on bug fixes.
@BacklogBrad Even is they are focusing on bug fixes the list is pathetic 😅
I'm playing on series s no issues at all but I always make sure I have no quick resume games ready to go as I know that effects performance on series s
@funkhouser patch notes typically are small and it goes back to my previous point that if something is fixed you might as well release it immediately.
It sounds like you are waiting for version 2.0 which likely won't be out for a long time.
