Today's Xbox leak from the FTC / Activision Blizzard documents has revealed that a brand-new Xbox controller is seemingly set to launch in 2024, and we've got a bunch of details to share about it as well.
As you can see in the image above, this is being described by Microsoft as "the world's best controller", packed with features such as precision haptic feedback, VCA haptics that double as speakers, an accelerometer, new modular thumbsticks, a rechargeable and swappable battery, and the ability to "lift to wake" the device.
The controller is expected to be packaged with any new Xbox Series X|S revisions in the future.
Based on some old launch timelines that have also leaked today, the suggestion is that the "Sebile" Xbox controller will be announced at some point early next year with a release around late May of 2024.
A price is even mentioned - $69.99. This would make it $10 more expensive than the current Xbox Wireless Controller for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but obviously we'll be getting a lot more features for the price.
As with all of these leaks, you should still take this information with a pinch of salt for now - it's probably outdated at this point and tweaks may have been made to Xbox's future plans. This controller looks pretty set in stone, though!

Not sure I will fork for it as I already have two series controllers and I like them a lot. Gyro is something I would like to have but unsure how many games in the backlog will support it as they were not programmed for it.
If it has gyro, I'm buying it day one.
@Balta666 Gyro compatibility will probably be poor but a lot of xcloud games support gyro through the phone so those should be easy to patch since the capability is already there.
I would also expect Microsoft 1st party to lead the way in patches, so games like Halo, Gears of War, and maybe Quake, Doom, etc. Since they now own those devs as well.
Ah microsoft copies Sony again,at least they've got rid of the god awful AA batteries ,also they've actually made it themselves and not bought out another company 😂
@tallythwack in fairness, Sony has copied Nintendo for years. Adapt to the market and Xbox have listened to feedback. Hopefully battery life is okay with the next controller
I doubt the price will stay that way with costs going up, but it looks good. Particularly if it comes with the rechargeable (and replaceable) battery as standard.
This is exciting news!
The only thing I care about is hall effect sticks, sick to death of stick drift.
As long as this means we also get an elite 3 around the same time, I'll be all over it.
I think I'll stick with my Elite V2 unless they bring out a new 'Elite' with improved Haptics. I have absolutely no interest in Gyro myself and always turn it off on Playstation if/when possible. I also dislike the triggers on the DS5 - it has its 'moments' but for longer gaming sessions, I turn that off too.
Just because I 'dislike' Gyro for example, I have absolutely no objection to MS offering it - as long as gamers are still given the choice to turn it off. I'd like more Haptic feedback through the controller but its not something I consider when deciding between buying games on PS5 OR Series X. I wouldn't necessarily buy on PS5 because it has better haptic feedback, Gyro and speaker in the controller etc. Even if the Game is 'exactly' the same on both, the only difference being the added features the DS5 offers, I'd still probably 'prefer' to play on my Elite V2.
As for 'copying' Sony, well the fact Consoles have built in Hard Drives today is because Sony copied Microsoft. Before that, they copied Nintendo with 'Memory Storage' cards to keep your Game Saves on. Great ideas will be 'imitated' - as has always been the case. Apple may well of created the first 'mobile' without a keypad - now every phone is like an 'iPhone' in that regard...
Sounds great, is pretty much all I would want for an upgraded controller.
Just a shame it wasn't here for launch (saying that as some one who loves their series pad.)
@BAMozzy The "parent leak" to this did mention a new gen elite controller, probably the elite version of this thing.
@abe_hikura Whilst I'm sure that MS would consider updating their Elite controller too, until anything is 'officially' confirmed, I'm still going to stick with the V2 over an updated 'regular' Xbox controller.
I prefer the functionality and customisation options of the Elite - the Paddles in particular is a big reason why I prefer the Elite and would prefer to use an Elite over any standard controller with improved Haptics etc...
So are the thumbsticks the magnetic ones that are supposed to eliminate stick drift? If so I'm getting one for sure. I'm not upgrading the series X, I'll wait until next gen and just get a new console.
@tallythwack Sorry, but thx to the battery compartment we always had the option to use rechargeable batteries, batteries or battery pack. And if there is one thing that sucks with PS5-controller, it is the battery... it needs to be charged way to often.
Sounds like a nice mix between the Xbox controller and PS5 Dualsense; I'm totally intrigued. My only concern is that, as an optional controller coming out midway through the console's lifecycle, enough devs won't use it. But maybe third-party devs working on PS5 games already will be able to easily bring over their DualSense efforts to the Sebile.
Sounds like a day one for me. But then there could Be issues with the first wave of this controller. So long as I can play this wired I’ll be happy.
An accelerametor and swappable(albeit not hall effect) sticks!? Been waiting on these for ages. Last time I was this excited for a controller was when they unveiled the Elite with back paddles. The second they do an Elite V3 with the functions In on board!
@EvenStephen7 I would certainly hope they'd be using the additional functions. Sony has been using gyros since the PS3 and Nintendo since the Wii. Even PC games support gyro aim. And the Steam controller is one of the best IMO. Hell, even my TV remote uses a gyro.
Nice to see the controller is true. Phil talked about it almost 2 years. I love the Xbox controller as it is. So these improvements will just make it even that much more my favorite. A digital Series X is great and i surely would have bought it at launch if the 2 were out on day one. But i am looking to add a second series X to the house so i might not wait until next year.
@BrilliantBill Yea agreed (I essentially said the same in my comment). I don’t think it’ll be a heavy left for third-party publishers who are already putting games on PS5, similar to how trophies and achievements often mirror each other.
@FatalBubbles we have got to stop agreeing on things ._. This is too spooky
The Direct to Cloud feature is really important for cloud gaming. It was one of the genius things about Stadia's controller which connected straight to the wifi instead of having to go to a device/console first. Every millisecond counts in cloud gaming. This would be particularly useful when playing on TV's and other devices that haven't optimised their systems for cloud gaming but can stream the video received back from the server just fine.
Personally quieter buttons and thumbsticks is a useful QoL one for me too. I used to use my Xbox controller on the train or plane until I realised how noisy it was to others.
@themightyant i get why it was designed that way. They said it was a mechanical keyboard like sound to feel. But i just want it to be quiet as i don’t like mechanical keyboards. This would be a nice upgrade. Also the bumpers on top have a mouse click like sound. Again to support that PC accessory sound they were going for. It’s not cheap it’s intentional is what I’m getting at.
@HonestHick I didn't ever think it was because it was cheap, but that's interesting that it's intentional. I hate it.
@Sveakungen yeah £50 for a controller and then you have to buy a rechargeable battery as well ,nice one,the only things that use AA batteries are tv remotes, they shouldve given these away with the series x,premium priced console, and they slap one of there god awful pads in the box.
@tallythwack what exactly did they copy here from Sony exactly?
Haptics have been in controllers since the Steam controller since 2015. And in phones even earlier. Even my headphones from 2018 have haptics.
Gyro aiming had also been a thing on PC was before Nintendo and Sony used it on the Wii and PS3. Though Sony abandoned it for a little while due to complaints where vibration didn't work with it at the time. And that's to say nothing of phones and TV remotes that used gyros prior to that.
If anything they're just catching up with the times.
The mock-up is ugly as bleep, imo. I like the touted features, seriously like the “wake up when picked up” feature, but this better be added to the design lab options.
Quieter buttons and thumbsticks.
Thank you! The best thing they could’ve done.
@themightyant Same. It drives me mad.

They granted my wish. Post number #26. Haha.
I hate the current xbox controller. I hope this 1 feels nice and works properly. For me, the A/B/X/Y buttons doesn't work sometimes and sometimes it double presses. So in some games, like the musical games where you have to press buttons at the right time, I would always fail because of the double presses.
@themightyant yeah i am not a huge fan of it either to be honest. But yeah it was an intentional move to make it sound like PC parts. I will say i kind of like the mouse click sounds on the bumpers, but the rest really needs to go and it looks like they have listened and most gamers don’t want it. Glad for the change and that is a day 1 buy for me.
No gyroscopic aiming? That's a shame. Hopefully the improved longevity of the joysticks is due to the use of Hall effect joysticks.
I don't particular like the ps5 controller pad to be honest so I might be on my own on this one but I'm not bothered about haptic feedback it was good in the astrobot game on ps5 though
Sounds like we should have an Elite 3 before long, that's the one I'll get.
you all know thats fake right ?
