It seems video game accessory manufacturer Turtle Beach could be working on a revision of one of its Xbox controllers, according to a recently filed patent.
This controller would feature a touchscreen that could be used to save custom controller loadouts, track player performance, and connect to social media. There would also be connectivity to some sort of mobile app.
As highlighted by a number of posts on social media, this Xbox "stealth controller" appears to be an update of Turtle Beach's 'Recon' model. In the patent image, there's even a little Turtle Beach logo at the bottom of the controller.
As this is a patent, it means nothing is finalised just yet, and it may or may not go ahead. There could also be revisions along the way. It wouldn't be the first Xbox controller to do something like this, either. Last year, Asus unveiled a new Xbox controller with a built-in OLED display.
Xbox earlier this week also revealed two more colour options for the Elite Series 2 controller line - red and blue.
What are your thoughts about the above patent? Would you be interested in a controller with a touchscreen that showed you all kinds of extra information? Comment below.

I just want a company to design a reliable controller with well placed paddles.
I love how the elite 2 feels when it works but I've got 2 xbox controllers with faulty face buttons and Microsofts repair service is a joke.
@PeteW If you're willing to buy an Elite, might want to look into some high-end controller modifiers like SCUF and Aim. I actually bought an Aim controller recently for my PS5 because I wanted some good paddles and face buttons, and I wasn't impressed by the official Edge controller.
@JayJ Thanks, I will look into the Aim controller. I had never heard of it before but after a quick look, I see they offer lifetime guarantees.
While I haven't used a Scuf controller, I read that they were just as unreliable as the elite 2.
@PeteW Yeah there's some youtubers who do a good job of covering these controller modifiers (Gamer Heaven is one I have been a fan of), and there's actually a bunch of options out there, but I thought Aim had one of the best paddle solutions and as you have noted, they have a lifetime guarantee on any work they do.
I seen this on another site that is PS first, and they were saying it better not sacrifice battery life…… UMM the same console you love with butth**e battery life? A $200 dollar Edge controller with an even smaller battery and worse battery life? And NOW you worried about battery life from features? Wow, kick rocks and I ain’t even saying this will surface or be a thing for MS, but Sony controllers are as comfy as hitting your shin on your bed frame in the dark and has battery life that’s industry worse for 1st party controllers for 2 gens in a row.
@Green-Bandit Yeah I am not the biggest fan of Sony controllers (the analog stick placement for example was nice in the PS1 and maybe PS2 eras but since then it hasn't been ideal), and I was never a fan of the DS4 (their worst controller IMO), but the DS5 has been surprisingly comfortable, although it does still have their terrible stick layout. Only problem I got with it is how the face buttons don't feel as good or responsive to use as the Xbox's, but the dual sense triggers managed to take what I always liked about the pulse triggers a step further. So it's a real mixed bag between the two.
When it comes to my preferences, I feel like I can easily get by with both, but the standard Xbox controller leaves less to be desired. The sort of mushy feeling face buttons on the DS5 has made me desire an upgrade, and as you have pointed out the battery life in the Edge is disappointing, so I went with a modified DS5 controller that gives me quick response clicky buttons. Heck I even changed the analog sticks to Xbox style and had them elevated a bit to help with the positioning.
@JayJ great take J, yeah the stick placement is bad if you are having that much travel in the triggers. Less travel in the triggers for the Dual sense would make it way better for me, not Xbox good but better. The controller hurts my hand from time to time after 25-30 mins, i want my Xbox controller back. I do like some of the features, but the battery life and comfort for me is awful and thank you, i thought the DS4 was awful. I disliked the PS3 and PS4 cause of controllers. The Six Axis and DS4 were awful with what Xbox was offering.
@Green-Bandit that's so weird, I didn't realize the battery life was that bad. I see people mentioning the battery of the PS controllers as a strength all the time. I've found myself defending the 2xAA of xbox controllers many times, online and with friends. I've been using the same eneloops for years and I wouldn't want it any other way.
@AverageJoseph stock Dual sense maybe 7 hours closer to 5.5-6 and the dual sense Edge pro controller is 4-6 tops. I mean if i am being nice Xbox is 25 hours and many times i am closer to 30. Switch Pro is closer to 40 but average is 30 plus. Most Sony fan’s love to say we don’t use battery’s, we have a internal battery, and to that i would say that is an advantage if not for the poor battery life.
@Green-Bandit I'm pretty sure the edge uses the same battery as motherboards
@Green-Bandit wow, that's pretty short. I do notice on xbox it's shorter when I'm using headphones, which I often do just for immersion, especially in the first several days to get into the vibe of a new game, or if directional sound input is an advantage. I've always thought that having one less point of failure was a good thing too, though. I'd hate to replace an otherwise working controller just because the battery failed. Like my stupid phone right now...
@NorthwestEagle I had a play and charge kit on 360 and it ended up being a wired controller. I'm sure they've improved since then I just don't want to deal with that. Using a controller wired to a console just seems like going backwards after having wireless for so long. I've been using mostly the same eneloops since then, replaced some along the way but I literally have 15 year old batteries I'm still using. I usually have 2 extras ready to go or at the very least in one of my other controllers, I don't really find it's too much of a hassle
Turtle Beach controller are nice shape and design, but the overall performance and the short time issues and the NO Support at all is made me and my friends to never ever buy TurtleBeatch accessories. The base Xbox controller is better! The top problem with TB controllers is the headset errors so u cant use in competitive multiplayer , we get fails everytime... so its a big NO! for TB controllers
im just waiting for the rerelease of the 360 controller, i cant wait. 360 controller is irreplaceable!
@JayJ my perfect controller would be:
Xbox ability to choose between batteries or rechargeable (with rechargeable battery pack included)
Dual sense haptics
Xbox stick layout
PS stick sensitivity
Xbox d pad
Xbox face buttons
PS touch pad
Xbox LB and RB
PS triggers
Xbox elite back paddles
Dualsense durability
@NorthwestEagle I can see how it might feel like gouging if you prefer that style and the others offer it included
I don't care about it but it is good to have options. Xbox series is pretty much my favourite controller though.
@NEStalgia hahahaha, i still barely use my Edge. Maybe Elite 3 is coming this year and we will start to get more news around it. This says turtle beach.
If controllers start looking just like a WiiU gamepad somewhere down the line then my radical claims that the WiiU and it's controller were underrated may someday be more than my after eight pints ramblings.
