Tech giant Asus has lifted the lid on its new officially licensed Xbox controller at CES 2023. The ROG Raikiri Pro is a tad different from existing models - as it features a built-in 1.3-inch OLED display and seems to put PC gamers first.
The screen (sized at a resolution of 128 x 40) can be programmed to show custom animations, images or text. It's got a much more practical use as well - allowing users to view battery life, Bluetooth connectivity, microphone status and profile indicators.
Buttons at the top of the controller allow profiles to be easily swapped mid-game, and there are four programmable rear ones (including trigger locks) - just make sure you've got Asus' Armoury Crate installed on your PC. In addition to this is a built-in ESS DAC, plus a 3.5 mm earphone jack and mute button. It's also got tri-mode connectivity: wireless USB-C, low-latency 2.5 GHz RF and Bluetooth 5.0 mode.
For Xbox users, it's not clear if all of the features will be supported when using the controller on console. Additionally, it's mentioned how Xbox only supports the controller's wired USB-C connection. The base model Raikiri will be made available "soon", and the Raikiri Pro will follow at a later date.
What do you think of this controller? Any interest? Let us know in the comments.

No thanks, I’d rather wait for Microsoft’s rumoured official controller with display. It seems pointless if it won’t support wireless use on Xbox.
Hearing lots of technobabble for simple and existing features...not seeing anything that new...and agree with Kaloudz, the Oled is like a chocolate teapot. How about finding ways to elude stick drift?
The oled feature is a gimmick and the price of the controller will most likely be just shy of a series x
That OLED screen has to be one of the most pointless things a controller could have.
Awesome! Now I can read ebooks on my controller while gaming...
Could be a bit of a gimmick, but I used to have a Logitech G13 gamepad (sort of like a mini keyboard just for one hand) that had a little screen, and actually it was REALLY useful. It showed things like CPU temps, FPS, time, notifications, etc. which was useful while playing without having more info on screen. So I'm not going to discount it.
Asus is superb and it looks sick.
I think the OLED panel isn't a 'gimmick' - its quite a useful display to see things like Battery life, headset volume, chat/game mix etc. It could even display Profile names - so you could set up a Profile for Driving, for FPS and/or RPG's for example rather than try to remember with LED light 2 was for Driving or was it LED light 3?
Battery level indicator is quite useful to see at a quick glance down instead of pausing the game to find out. I don't think its necessary a gimmick if it has functionality and/or useful features - even if they aren't game changing. Its more refinement on what came before.
Like I said, you don't need a 'display' to see what Profile you have selected, my Elite has a LED indicator to let me know, but then I need to remember what each Profile was set-up for where as a Display could tell me. I can find the status of battery, headset volume, chat mix etc too with 'relative' ease, but a display on a controller may make it 'easier' without disrupting the game...
Doesn't mean I'm interested in purchasing. I have the Elite V2 which works wirelessly on my Series X or PC anyway so I don't need a 'Pro' controller - even if the screen would 'add' something. Its not 'worth' buying another Pro controller for just a screen and can't be used wirelessly with my Series X.
Wait, I can display Tinder on my controller as I’m playing? That would be innovative!
@Jumpy_Binhead There already is. Hall effect sensors.
Hilarious - an Xbox controller that isn't really for the Xbox
I like this one to be honest, bet it will be expensive.
While I kinda like how the screen brings back memories of the Dreamcast VMU, it also seems like a completely pointless and gimmicky addition.
But can it run doom?
That dpad looks pretty awful to use.
@Kaloudz Devs support the dualsense features, so why not?
So we get a nice OLED screen that no game will ever use, I'd love for games to actually use such a thing as it was a great feature for the Dreamcast amd as I play on PC and aren't a big fan of Armoury Crate I think I'll pass
sooo whos the fool who will buy this solely for their xbox, at its price your better off with a scuff, Battlebeaver, or even the Elites... why be forced to be wired to your controller? unless that screen does something amazing on the xbox its just a gimmick like the screens on the old Logitech G boards....yea they showed ***** but to take your eyes off your screen to read a small display wasnt usefull...
@BAMozzy non of what you mention is needed, its not exactly hard to remember first dot is FPS second is for driving and 3rd is normal setup....if you cant remeber 3 things you got bigger issues... also as for battery its not exactly slow to hit the xbox button look top left and tap it again... volume is only usefull for those who havent gone and gotten a good headeset like a astro a50 or pretty much any wireless headset, point is for most its all gimmick and repeat if you cant remember 1 is fps 2 is driving and 3 is whatever else then there are huge memory issues.... and then you have to be wired to your xbox... wired only controllers should have gone the way of the dodo for consoles....i get its wireless on pc but for xbox seems its not and that is just dumb for a expensive controller
here is the controller we would all buy ANY THAT SOLVES STICK DRIFT!!!! id pay 300$ for a damn controler that wont form stick drift, im on controller 13 fo the eltite series 2 they drift after about 60 days it starts to show, i just keep warrantying them and getting another from ms, i currrently on a 3 elite series 2 rotation , use one till it breaks send it out move on to next one when i get the broken one back it goes to the back of the queue, and after a while ms gives up and just sends you a brand new controller....which will break again in 60 days so it stays in the box till i need it... No lie MS elite series 2 controllers have such bad stick drift, i have not had a elite for more then 83 days now....like i said on elite series 2 controller 13, when they stop warrantying them ill move on to my scuff controller i bought this christmass.
@InterceptorAlpha So theres no eventual stick drift on pads?...you working for MS or something huh?
@Jumpy_Binhead Reading comprehension is key, friend.
1. This is an article about Asus, not Microsoft. Your comment was in reply to this article.
2. I stated there was a solution for stick drift. And there is. Hall effect sensors are immune to drift. And so accurate they're used in speed sensing systems.
3. No where did I state Asus was using hall effect sensors, let alone Microsoft.
4. Which then begs the question, how in the world do you conflate this with working for Microsoft?
@S1ayeR74 my exact reason why i dont buy most 3rd party controllers although i do love my scuff xS controller just wish it had the rechargeble battery from elite series 2(im done using them been through 12 with thumbstick drift yes ms has replaced em all but pain in ass)
