We feel like we've been saying this forever now, but it seems like GoldenEye 007 might finally be getting ready to launch on Xbox Game Pass. With a Developer_Direct event around the corner, now seems like a great time for a reveal.
But will it happen? Well, there's a rumour doing the rounds courtesy of YouTuber eXtas1s that GoldenEye 007 might be dropping at the end of January. This prediction is shared by fellow YouTuber Graslu00, who previously leaked footage of the unreleased GoldenEye 007 Xbox 360 port back in early 2021.
Obviously this is just a rumour for now, but it would certainly make sense. Microsoft announced that GoldenEye 007 was "coming soon" to Xbox Game Pass all the way back in September, and there have been reports and rumours about its impending release going all the way back to January 1st of 2022.
Plus, with the January 2023 Xbox Game Pass lineup proving fairly light right now, we feel like there are a few surprises yet to be revealed. Hopefully we'll find out more about these at the Xbox event on the 25th.
Do you think GoldenEye 007 will arrive on Xbox Game Pass this month? Let us know down below.

I hope so since I've never played it before and want to see what all the hype is.
I loved GoldenEye on N64. Just hope it brings back good memories
Every time a show comes up, people speculate that Goldeye will be mentioned/released/other. Every time they are wrong. Why would this show be any different?
I think if Nintendo doesn't announce a different game for NSO Expansion Pack (e.g. Mario Party 3) for January before the Xbox Direct then Goldeneye is likely to appear.
Tongue firmly in cheek here but what will be the next long term speculation article fodder after Goldeneye 007 gets released?
i dont think so.
because i think they would have preferred for it to go on last month for xmas.
more likely March time
We've had this article so many times before.
A broken clock is right twice a day right?
@ParsnipHero Lol what about Metal Gear Solid
@ParsnipHero there will probably be a lot of speculation and rumors about the state of fable for the next couple years.
I’m excited to replay Goldeneye, but like @grumpypotato said there’s definitely an element of rose-tinted glasses. Honestly I’m not hopeful that it will hold up particularly well now gameplay-wise after twenty five years of the genre being iterated on and improved. At least the Xbox version will seemingly get a fresh coat of paint and if it looks anything like the Perfect Dark remaster it’ll be fine.
@ParsnipHero "When is the next Xbox Direct?"
Without a remaster if anything just for an online multiplayer component, I don't see this doing well.
I am shocked at the amount of people clamoring for a 26 year old game.
What am I not understanding?
@Somebody this has my vote. Fable or Perfect Dark.
I hope so but i have my doubts.
Flip sake why don’t they release this already? What’s taking so long for a game that was brought out 25 years ago and was announced back in September. Please be later this month after the Direct.
Is this gonna be a copy of the N64 game or will it have Series X visuals?
@FatalBubbles An HD re-release to one of the most beloved games of its era, selling over 8 million copies at the time, from when Rare was in their heyday, that influenced an entire generation of shooters and proved their viability on console, and it's not only the best Bond game ever made, but one of the best spy themed games; a genre in desperate need of a comeback. Millions of players have fond memories of playing endless hours of multiplayer with their friends, on top of the game having an absolutely Stellar campaign.
That's just a quick summary of why GoldenEye is so deeply desired for re-release. I'm right there too. It's ridiculous we're still waiting.
@Solidchief The hype is long gone, its all nostalgia now! However I played this on N64 a few years ago, it still help up pretty well with only one analogue stick.
This is one of my favourite games. I've played lots of shooters since then but not as good as this in terms of gameplay, story and the balance between freedom and objectives. For instance, the Wii reimagining (not remake) was a let-down. The highest level of difficulty really makes you think and analyse every possible action in the original. It's the sophisticated gameplay and interaction with the environment that make it great. It has a lot of WTF realistic moments. It has the multiplayer mode I played the most on N64. That said, the Perfect Dark remaster treatment should be the minimum.
I also played Jet Force Gemini recently on Rare Replay. It has a native widescreen mode and surround audio. After having to readjust to the weird aiming for an hour or so, the whole game was a lot of fun, I replayed the levels until I completed all the milestones. It's awesome. Most Rare's games are addictive, fun and have great audio and graphics. I also play new games but few hook me as much. Rare Replay really needs Goldeneye and it's finally coming after so many years, that's enough reason for celebration. Obviously, it won't get Nintendo's IPs Donkey Kong and Star Fox.
@EVIL-C Crazy how different people remember it. I played it and then that was it, it did nothing for me at all and obviously there are significantly better shooters out now.
I hope that these people get the game though since it appears to be a big dea.
I'm not as hyped for this as others... only having Local Multiplayer is a Big L for any FPS or Beat 'Em Up, one of the reasons I wish they hadn't delisted DOOM HD since the remake only has Local. Still gonna check it out since I own the Rare Replay and am getting it for free.
Super excited to revisit the original on Nintendo and this polished port on Xbox.
@FatalBubbles Someone like myself is a massive Bond fan, and the game was and still is excellent. When the leaked XBLA port released 2 years ago, it was even better going through it again with the enhanced textures and controls.
I guess it depends what one means by "better" shooters now. Sure, the underlying technology is better, modern graphics are better, but since spy themed games are so rare, combined with most shooters being online multiplayer-focused now and have awful campaigns, I yern for a resurgence of objective-based shooter campaign design that you could approach in several different ways, like GoldenEye, like Perfect Dark, like Timesplitters, etc... hell even the older Medal of Honor games had great campaigns.
I really just want a high quality, modern spy themed FPS, lol. Hopefully Perfect Dark 202X will fulfil that. (or Agent 64 on Steam when it's finished).
One of my favourite FPS games of the time and certainly on the N64. This release has just been weird though with the huge gap between its announcement and some update and still silence. Just a shame that Xbox won't get that XBLA version that was leaked a while ago and this just seems to be a basic emulation of the game.
@grumpypotato the endlessly spawning waves of enemies were when you set off the alarms, there are plenty of stages where there are a fixed number of enemies if played as intended. I had a lot of fun with its multiplayer but yes you really had to set your own ground rules beforehand and there were certainly much better multiplayer fps games at the time, just this was fun and easy to get 4 friends together and have a blast with
One of the best games on the N64, played it till death, 100% completion on all levels, all unlocks, took some time, loved it, just not that interested to play it all over again, will take a look if on gamepass and that's it.
@Solidchief Never playing it, it may do nothing for you, but to be a kid/teen when it was out...oh lawd, that was it.
@Stnkygrngo That's good to know
@BidensBunny Me and my friend would play Timesplitters 2 multiplayer which was made by ex Rare employees, so I can understand why Goldeneye is heavily praised. Plus, Since it's coming to Game Pass I'll definitely give it a go.
Keeping an eye on Nintendo. If they announce this as the NSO game for this month, or if nothing is announced before the presentation, it might be added to Game Pass this month. If they announce a different title it probably won't be this month since I doubt it will come to Game Pass sooner.
Its pretty hard to see why anyone cares so much? This was genre defining in its day, but has been well and trully surpassed many times since. I tried it on emulator on pc with lots of enhanced visuals and 4k, but other than nostalgia, it had nothing for me and I cant imagine any modern gamer getting anything out of this now?
