The studio has revealed more details about this Xbox port via Xbox Wire, including that it'll feature improved control options (including dual analog stick support), and will be available for free for digital owners of Rare Replay.
You can check out the images below, and Rare says it'll have more details on a release date soon.

Games from this generation were fun in that generation. Lets leave these old games in the past where the nostalgia still exists. It looks nice, but most likely will not age well even with the updates.
I didn’t expect it to be free if you already own Rare Replay. That’s very generous!
How do you like your port Mr Bond?
'Shaken not stirred'
@OliverOwen Perfect Dark was still fun to play. I anticipate this one to be as well.
A perfect example that high resolution =/= good graphics
Bringing games like this out on current generations is good even just so more people can try them. Preservation and accessibility 👌 especially when it is generously offered (Rare Replay goes as low as £4.99 digitally and is an incredible game collection) as part of Rare Replay.
If you don’t like this, no need to play it!
With improved controls and smooth frame rate I think this will still be brilliant fun to play, even for those who never played it 25 years ago and don't have the nostalgia. The enemy hit animations that differed depending on where you shot them is still something that - for me - hasn't really been bettered to this day.
@K1LLEGAL Yeah exactly. I'll never understand the "I don't want it, so others shouldn't have it too" crowd.
@OliverOwen Speak for yourself. I am going to enjoy the heck out of this
This is kind of insane because a game this old is such a weird small vocal niche they're catering to. I can't believe they actually did it. I have no attachment to the game since I never owned an N64, only Nintendo console I skipped, other than GCN which I "got" with the full Wii BC), and I'm not sure I can see jumping into the archaic thing now, and I'm not sure many modern gamers would either. This is MS throwing money at Rare to appease N64 fans basically which is just mind boggling, but also amazingly cool. I get it for free with my existing Replay purchase...I'm happy....even if I never play it
@NEStalgia Lol, read never owned a N64 with that username, kinda shocked me, this was the best shooter ever made at the point this hit the N64, what a masterpiece , played it till death, all achievements / challenges were pretty tough I remember.
The only bad thing being I wish this was the Xbox Live Arcade remaster but even so I’m so happy and well up for this!
@Handy_Man
I’m concerned whether it’s free access that can be taken away later or free to own on the console. If this is in fact an issue I rather buy a copy.
@K1LLEGAL Exactly! Soon, the game will be available in remastered form on Game Pass and as a crazy-value purchase as Rare Replay, nothing to complain about. For the record, I never beat Perfect Dark on N64 but I beat the easy and normal modes on the Xbox remaster because of the better frame rate and controls.
@TheSilverFalcon LOL, I'd just bought a Virtual Boy at the time.......was pretty burned by Nintendo and just couldn't bother myself with N64 after that, lol And around that time I picked up PC gaming, so I didn't circle back around to console until PS360ii.
Looking forward to seeing what they did with the aiming on this new version of Goldeneye. Me and my friends grew up with the original back in the late 90's and it was probably the best console shooter about then. Timesplitters was up there too and shout out Medal of Honour too. Anyway back to the aiming/controls, after playing Goldeneye on the N64 a few years ago the one area it struggled was the controls.
@Spazmonic Yeah, seriously. IMO Goldeneye is the perfect example of a game that could use a proper remaster. Absolutely fantastic game that has become hard to enjoy due to poorly aged controls.
Couple college buddies came over for first time in ages and we played a lot of games, but the one played most was Perfect Dark on Series X and had a blast. Already planning a weekend get together when this drops.
@Spaceman-Spiff The Last of Us Remake and The Last of Us 2 do that really well. Enemies react to where they were hurt. Adds massive realism.
Very interesting, looks like an upscaled port of the 64 version, not the leaked 360 remake with new textures/lighting. I guess that means no local coop campaign in addition to no online multi. A bit disappointed considering how good the Perfect Dark remake was, but getting it free is nice so one can't complain.
@OliverOwen No, no, and no. I played the leaked remaster in early 2021 and GoldenEye is still phenomenal and incredibly fun.
@Spaceman-Spiff I'll be looking forward to trying out the campaign, hope that I get to see what people liked about it back then. Nice little detail on the game there, never heard of that.
Doesn't look amazing but I really enjoyed playing the classic dooms & quake so should be fun
It's not remastered at all. GoldenEye on N64 had dual analog stick support, using 2 controllers per player. It also had widescreen.
Do a google image search for "GoldenEye emulator", and you'll see the exact same graphic quality.
We are getting the EXACT same thing as what the Switch gets, but with a missing feature, online multiplayer... On Xbox, a console that we PAY for online multiplayer, and they pride themselves on having the best infrastructure for online play.
This is just sad. It's a joke.
I don't want to be that guy, but what about the three of us who own rare replay ON DISC ? Is there a way to get it for free also, but to be able to play it only if you put the disc on the console ?
I know that my question seems so last decade, but still. xD
@Fishticon Then why the James Bond website that is neutral territory says that Xbox is getting a 4K remaster and Switch is getting the original N64 classic? Xbox is not getting the Xbox 360 remaster but we don't know what it is exactly. I think we should wait until the game is released 😅.
@Bobobiwan Perhaps, you should get the digital edition now for €7.49 😁.
@Banjo- You know what ? I will, probably ^^
It's just that I liked the fact that my disc had an actual purpose, outside of its collector value.
But Golden Eye will probably be 10, or 15 bucks, so...
@Bobobiwan Just imagine how much would Nintendo charge for the 31 games included in the collection... 😂.
Don’t owe the Rare Replay collection but I do have a physical N64 copy of the game. Curious how it plays 🤔🙂
Looking back at this, I'm surprised they didn't update the text to display at a higher resolution. Having a 4K game with pixellated text just looks odd to me.
