SEGA has today unveiled the 2023 roadmap of new content for Sonic Frontiers, with next year set to include three major updates full of new modes, features, characters and even story content.
As you can see from the image above, "Update 1" will be including the likes of a Photo Mode and Juke Box, "Update 2" celebrates Sonic's Birthday and adds another Challenge and new Koko, and "Update 3" seems to be the biggest one of all, introducing various new characters to the game alongside a "new story".
It's been confirmed that each of these updates will be "free to all Sonic Frontiers owners".
Unfortunately, Sonic Frontiers is no longer on sale on the Xbox Store — it was slightly discounted for the Black Friday weekend — but if you're thinking of picking it up, it's worth noting that the game's performance mode issues on Xbox Series S have since been fixed, so it seems to run pretty well on both Xbox Series consoles now.
How are you getting on with Sonic Frontiers so far? Tell us down in the comments below.

Great that it's not a camera fix what it's needed like in Adventure, Adventure 2, Heroes, Shadow, 2006 and Unleashed 😁. Sonic Generations and Sonic Frontiers are both awesome on Series S|X with solid camera and gameplay.
Wish they’d add an option to skip boss fights. They are a pain even on Easy!
Pretty good support in all fairness. Can't complain here.
I find myself oddly compelled to give this a try, despite my total apathy towards any 3D Sonic game of the last 20 years. I'll probably bite once it hits around £15 or it hits GPU or PSPlus, whichever is sooner. Given how quickly the price has dropped, I can see that being the case by January
Wow. All of that is free? Sounds good to me! Loved Sonic Frontiers!
Oh neat, I’ll play more Sonic Frontiers when this stuff comes out.
Free is always good. Nice to see Sega will be giving this some strong post-launch support. Reviews may have been mixed but it's genuinely one of my favorite games of the year, even with some of its flaws. Can't wait for all these updates, especially the new characters and story content.
Hmm, even the usually monetized dlc stuff like new Characters and new Story... for free? Fair play Sega. Have a cookie!
Fair play to them for making it free, I've seen stuff like this from paid DLC passes from others (mainly nintendo).
Are there Chao in this game? Asking for me, a man-child.
@REAVERZINE
No Chao gameplay but there are references.
I'm hoping to pick this up in a sale, so its great to see Sega offering the game this support.
I wish more companies considered 'supporting' their product rather than 'milking' it.
Has anyone played this on Series S since the patch? How does it compare now to the X version?
Free stuff! Obligatory "Sega does what Nintendon't" comment.
I actually picked this up on the sale. I was searching for games that were in my "If it's on sale Black Friday I'll buy it" list, and randomly after Black Friday and before Cyber Monday, noticed this was actually suddenly in the sale. Surprising for a new launch, but I need my traditional "cute, nostalgic family game for Christmas" fix, and other than Pokemon: Lag and Pokemon: Stutter this year didn't have much going on in that genre. Glad to hear it's really going strong.
Looks like we get to play as Idris Elba in Update 3!
